Thoughts about the fights:
Williams pleasantly surprised me. I thought he might be a bit burned out, and would yield to the fresher Gallimore. I was wrong.
Patricia Morse Jarman continues the tradition of bad women judges. Sorry to sound sexist.... but with a small sample size, they're not doing themselves any favors. No way it was 114-114.
2nd fight. For some reason I had picked Truax. Truax SUCKS.
Finally... Hurd bailed me out, but giant kudos to Lara for making it a hell of a lot closer than I thought it would be.
The 1st and 3rd fights were excellent. The 2nd fight was ugly.
Hats off to both guys anyway. I wasn't expecting to see an exciting Erislandy Lara fight. It's a shame PBC is so stop start and still has so many star versus opponent type main events. Particularly when they've got so much talent signed up and kicking their heels.
I still had Lara winning even with the knockdown. Guess he'll have to settle for the moral victory holding his own against a guy that looked like at least a super middle tonight.
It's unfortunate but I guess the direction the game is going in where more often than not a deficit of skill is erased by size and flash.
Also gotta say I wasn't happy with Bayless allowing those forearms and elbows on the inside.
It's impossible to explain, there are literally dozens and dozens of fighters more popular/marketable than him yet this is the second fight in a row he's took roughly a million quid. I've just watched the DeGale fight and the Lara fight
Both good scraps, DeGale doesn't have long left I don't think, he did well and the cut was causing him problems hence him trying out the orthodox stance which is something I can't remember seeing him do before (I could be wrong though) but regardless of that, he doesn't look the same fighter that he did a few years back, having said that I wouldn't be surprised if him and Truax had another fight and the decision went the other way next time, them pair will always just have scrappy close fights.
What the fuck was Bird doing taking a point off for the shoulder, fucking ridiculous that was, the best part of the fight was watching just how little attention Floyd was paying to it which was made all the more obvious by that silly big red hat he was wearing.
I was backing Lara before the fight started but Hurd was just so much bigger he bullied him and the knockdown in the last round made a huge different to the fight so there can't be any complaints, a split decision was more than fair.
The commentator on BoxNation done my fucking head in, how many times did he have to remind us that it was the first time the belts would have been unified since 2000, and I've never heard anyone constantly refer to Lara as Larda before...and why does he scream 'HE'S GOT A LACERATION' is it purely because it sounds more dramatic that 'He's got a cut'
Degale did not deserve that win on that performance..
Degale looks a worn fighter in my eyes he must think long and hard who he fights because he does not have much left.
James has been a Olympic gold medalist and a pro champion he has reached his goals far more than most fighters ever would dream of yes he has been successful maybe time to pack it in he seems to be getting hit far to much.

Hurd looks massive and Lara landed the better punches. That was a hard fight for Lara.

I'd spot Charlo the better mobility with combos and pop than Lara and serves well to make Hurds size and one track attack work against him. Charlo possess the right mindset to get respect early where as Lara fight went you could see Hurd physically disregard his stuff round by round.Quote:
