Re: I was wrong!! Hatton is all wrong for 147!!
I think Ricky got a little exposed as a 147 lb fighter last night. I think he was exposed as not being this super human Mayweather beater that he has been hyped up to be for a while.
Collazo is a big guy and he looked very good. The guy he won the title from has now gone on to become a world champ at light middle weight so that tells you Collazo is no joke.
I'm not sure Ricky would fare very well against some of the bigger guys in this division. Margarito and Cintron for example look so much bigger than Ricky I'd doubt he would have the physical advantage that his style of fighting needs against these guys.
Personally I think Ricky would be better of going back down to 140 and challenging the winner of Castillo Coralles. Cotto is still down there for now as well so no real need to be at 147 lb.
Hatton will not beat Mayweather, none of the current bunch will. Floyd won't lose until he fights Joel Julio in 2008 at 154.

he didnt look his usual self cuz he couldnt hold and hit like he wanted to and couldnt use his dirt tactics like he does in the UK...sorry Brits...but UK refs are bias

CC even then I think Castillo would be a war Corrales I'm not sure of his suspect chin
but castillo and hatton would be a good matchup
Re: I was wrong!! Hatton is all wrong for 147!!
Diego does have a suspect chin but look how many he took in the first fight with JLC before he went down! Secondly,he is possibly number 1 P4P hardest hittter in the game right now and he has the power to KO anyone from 140,maybe even 147 down! I mean everyone but then again,it is just as likely he will go down! You have to love the guy! JLC hATTON would just be a war, neither taking a backwards step,I would favour Hatton because of his workrate but it would be sooo close!

Oh no collazo looked good last night. But don't front. Everyone knew he picked him cause he thought he would walk through him. Thats what his fans thought and thats what most writers thought too. This was suppose to be an easy belt and it should have.Collazo is good but he was a paper champ.Thats the facts. After this fight i think collazo is alot better than people thought and that hatton is not as good as people thought.Fan or not thats what that fight showed. I can admit he got the win but can u admit he looked bad doing it? And by the way pbf would have a field day with collazo. Hes too good a boxer. His defense is too good. That was hatton problem. If he would of atual boxed more he might have looked better.
He wasn't picked because he thought he could walk through him.
His trainer Billy Graham and his promter Dennis Hobson did not want to go near the fight and admitted as much in interviews on Sky Sports last night. THey were terrified that Collazo's style could ultimately cause serious problems for Ricky (which they admittedly did)
They did not want Ricky to fight Collazo because they know that that particular style causes problems for Ricky. The southpaws right hook is one that Ricky always get tagged with (Eamon Magee). Billy Graham said that Ricky insisted on the fight because it was a genuine belt at a new level. It was the only decent fight left out there at Welterweight.
The facts are that he is now a two weight world champion who I think should consider going back down to 140 and clearing out the division.
:coolclick: Good arguement guys, but grayggr here makes the most sense by far.
Collazo was underestimated, I knew nothing about him and on top of him being underated his style was awful for Ricky, he wont have many more difficult fights than that for a while. I GUARANTEE THAT. Billy Graham will go back and say, look you, you listen to me from now on with who we fight. Ricky respects the man and will probably agree. I had the fight as a draw (anyone who was watching on Sky, I had it the same as Jim Watt but tied the 4th round) and was panicking when the decision came.
Ultimately, EVERY great fighter struggles with an underated fighter at some point in their career, Ricky will be fine.
And to all the Ricky haters, you occasionally have points, but its so obvious most of you are judgin the Hitman on his last three fights only. Dont dismiss all his prior fights as bum fights and go have a look at them, you'll see what us Brits who have followed him since day one mean with all our praise for him and how we fell in love with his style.
Still, mostly good points in the thread guys..
Re: I was wrong!! Hatton is all wrong for 147!!
Hatton is only 5'6". Henry Armstrong was probably the only fighter that short to have great sucess at Welterweight but he had a completely different style than Hatton. I think Hatton is going to have problems with guys at welter with good reach. Margarito imo would embarass him.
Re: I was wrong!! Hatton is all wrong for 147!!
Sorry to agree with a lot of you but I feel that Hatton's problem lies in his style. He has to be able to hold on. If not he would have tremendous problems at any weight against a slugger/boxer. Someone who can move and hurt him. I believe that the reason the ref was interacting as much as he did, was that true boxing could be witnessed, not a bar room brawl. The Hatton/ ZU fight was the primary reason they are watching him. ZU's right arm was held almost the entire fight, got kinda boring and frustrating to watch. Don't get me wrong I think that hatton is a good fighter, but I think that he needs to work on his foot work and boxing skills

Well first off I saw your prediction and you were way off so I don't know how much stock I can put in your opinion. How can you say we're only judging him off his last 3 fights? Have you every heard the sayin your only as good as your last fight.Well we've seen 3 so what would you said if he looked bad in his next fight;Your only judging him on his last 4 fights. Come on that is lame. I have seen about 12 hatton fights and he showed the same flaws in those fights that he did in this one. The only difference is that everyone got to see it.And as far as his past opponents they were mostly lower caliber fighters. That was the big knock on him before tszyu and by fighting maussa and almost gettin koed by collazo hes proving them right.

I was well off with my prediction, so was nearly everyone though. Noone gets everything right and that doesnt mean they know nothing. I massively underated Collazo, he is a quality fighter and should be a contender for a few years unless he does something stupid and gets too fired up and goes after Margarito, who would destroy him.
Judging a fighter by his last fight doesnt work but I do see where your coming from. The problem with that is, if you look at the last fight all you know now is Hatton isnt polished at welterweight and struggles massively with southpaws no matter what Ricky may see. The Kostya fight showed us Rickys heart and workrate, Mausa showed nothing, Mausa is piss poor. I was making a sweeping generalisation rather than specifcally talking bout you and if youve watched Rickys fights and made a balanced opinion from that then great, we aint got to agree.
Re: I was wrong!! Hatton is all wrong for 147!!
Ricky is a good fighter but you guys have to agree usually when you move up in weight you fight an easy fight. Hatton skipped that process.
Hatton might have been looked at like some sort of super fighter, Collazo, the title holder at that weight class WAS SURELY underrated before the fight by everyone.
The only thing that made Hatton look bad in my opinion was that he didn't work enough when he had Luis tied up! It was like an Old Tyson he hung on and didn't let his hands go enough...that's his bread and butter!
Being 5'6 doesn't matter, Hatton has the frame to carry the weight.
I think Luis surprised everyone...he took those body shots pretty well

Hatton looked good through 3 and then the ref started actin stupid...
So what they are holding, let them try to work out of it.......dont stop the action everydamn time they get close to eachother...
American girlish REferees will be the downfall of Hatton...NOT mayweather..

The reason the ref broke up the clinches is because Hatton didn't work like he usually does which meant the clinches were just wasting time for the fighters and the fans.
Hatton is a 147 pound Tyson with the body work he does and if someone ties up his hands on the inside it ain't like he can step out and use his reach you know
