If you are going to rig a fight, I would have thought the benefit would be to rig it so the betting underdog wins?

sorry mate but 'my severe denial for my countryman' comment was bollocks. why has where i'm from got to be a factor chief? for all you know i could be a fucking yank.
Excellent post Lyle, :coolclick: for you sir.Quote:

The reason I thoroughly enjoy watching Ricky Hatton fight is because he wins despite his shortcomings, and he is a genuine, respectful human being outside the ring.
It was a very close run thing against collazo but Ricky showed the heart of a champion and the chin of an Ox.
Billy Graham has his work cut out getting some head movement happening from the champ.
Where does Ricky go now, a two weight champion.
Does he go back down to 140 and enjoy his ability to boss the smaller fellas or does he try to get a match with PBF for a mega golden handshake.?
I think it was more of a draw. I think an argument for a 1 point win for either man could be entertained but scoring is so subjective and the rounds that were close were impossibly hard to score whereas the rounds that were obvious for either man were basic no brainers. I've only seen Hatton on 2 or 3 occassions, but this was definitely the sloppiest manifestation of him. I find him to be a very courageous, intense, and focused fighter with good skills as a fighter/brawler but just ok skills as a pure boxer. Very entertaining to watch. I think if he doesn't settle at welter or he has another off night like Saturday that a list of the top welters could take a fight from him, if not KO him. meaning Margarito, Oscar (sorry you can't sell Baldomir to me won't ever believe that until I see it). As far as PBF I think Hatton has a style that would bother Floyd, but not enough to beat him I think by mid fight Floyd would be countering a very aggressive Hatton to the wall, taking a few in the process but mostly picking him off from the outside with his reach and defensive skills, winning the fight 7-5 or 8-4 or something like that ultimately. I think a Hatton fight vs Corralles or Castillo would be vastly entertaining and preferable to a prolonged campaign at welter at this point in his career. I also think Cotto has the size, power and style to beat Hatton though Hatton's power, chin, and ruffhousing style are also credible enough to put Cotto on his back on the right circumstances, that fight would largely come down to strategy.
I do not think the fight it self was rigged but the punch stats are getting more far fetched all of the time. I also feel the fight was closer to a draw.
Jbird, I do not know were you are from but figured anyone in such denial muct have a personal reason. Maybe you just lost alot of money or something.
You are quite right eclectic, this was Ricky's poorest performance i have ever seen.
I know Ricky is considerably better than that.
I'm interested in whether they will keep Ricky at this weight if they can't find a fight with PBF?
Who else would ricky want to fight at this weight?
He still has unfinished business at Light Welter and he can still make the weight I'm sure.
miracho your a dick. i'm not in denial at all mate. i'm fully aware that hatton had a tough close fight on saturday cos i watched it mate. and i'm also aware that it wasnt anywhere near the best of ricky hatton or the best of what he is capable of.
Jbird,
Emotional name calling and flustered posts are are also a sign of denial.
I honestly feel all roads for hatton lead back to Collazo. Theres one thing thats strong in every man and thats pride. He can't just go back to jww because people will say he got run out of the ww division by Luis Collazo which would be true. His pride will make him give a rematch just like floyd/castillo and jones/tarver and that might be his undoing because if he don't work on those technical flaws i can see collazo knocking him out in a rematch.Quote:

I still can't figure out if the term brits use so often... 'yanks' is an insult or not
I tend to think it's an insult because I hate baseball, well all sports that involve a ball really (if they were worth a damn they'd be boxing:)) and even moreso the yankees
I use 'yanks' quite a lot, but it's not meant as an insult.
I like to think that people are crystal clear about the fact when I DO insult them.
I do agree.Quote:

(sorry posted too soon) And Tyson fought that way because he was much shorter than his opponents.!

Hatton has one 3 world titles at 2 different weights in 10 months.
Certain US members really don't like the fact that our top flight boys are doing the business and in emphatic (calzaghe making a total prick out of Jeff Chase me :biker:..Sorry ~Lacy)
I feel strongly the need to not (and i will not for one f*cking second) sit back and have my fellow country men slated for their superb achievements over the last year.
Maybe it's because the US is so much bigger than the UK that we are getting tosser after tosser trying to blame the ref,the judges or whatever to save face over the fact that Ricky done the business in their back yard ;D
Like when Nigel Benn smashed the utter KUNT out of IRAN (for cover) Barklay back in the day in his backyard (They did not like that up em either) ;)
Ricky could have chosen a MUCH easier fight than a full blown Welter but you gotta understand that we (The UK) ain't about that and anyone who slates the Boy for his efforts over the last 10 months is just a jealous fool.
Some of the people and some are senior members and even Moderators of the site have really shown their true colours since Hatton/Collazo
And why the f*ck do you (some) have to turn it into a US/UK war of words.??
Be Happy for our fighters achievments and accept the you HAVE NOT the strangle hold over World boxing that you are used to.
Look at the Heavyweight division for starters ;) 3 outta 4 Champs are Euro Title holders FFS.
The Chinese are starting to become strong and then of course check our dominance at the Commonwealth games 8)
Then go check on Nicky Cook,Amir Khan and Kevin Mitchell to name a few (all on the way or on the edge of world glory)
Some of our USA members really have made dickheads out of themselves in the last few days and i really do mean that!!
Shame on you and Well done Ricky for having the balls to do what you do best....
Yeah Collazo had him hanging in the 12th but watch again as Ricky comes straight back in his face for the tear-up.
Like i said it's what we are all about mentality wise so get F8cking used to it.
Rule Britania and back the f*ck off our Boys
SMASHUP OUT!! :fyou: :britain: :britain:
And BIG UP THE SKEL for having balls like Hatton and standing his F*CKING GROUND
RESPECT BAD BWOY!!!
