To put this into perspective, Ricky entered the ring against Stewart at 146, against Oliveira at 148 and against Tsyzu at 147 (Tszyu was 149). Against Collazo, Hatton entered the ring at 160. It was an amateurish mistake by his whole team (and TV backers) to move up in weight at such short notice when his only problem making 140 was often having to eat upto seven meals a day during camp to keep the weight up near the 140 mark!
your telling me he only had 7 weeks to gain weight? He knew about the fight 6 months in advance...if he waited that long he got what he deserved......He weighed in at 160? how can this be if he had to eat 7 meals a day to get to 140? 20 lbs? did he eat 20 meals a day?..no...he has a small frame that cannot sustain heavier weights....the extra weight makes him slower and less active. that's why he got beat by Collazo....
Re: Why do British people do this to British fighters?
...Except he didn't.
It is accepted that on the scoring system Ricky won. Sure Collazzo may have won his rounds by a larger margin than Ricky, but he won.
It was UD as well, the only way to avoid the vagaries of a refs deciion is to put soebody on their arse so they don't get back up
Re: Why do British people do this to British fighters?
What won that decision for Ricky was this:
a lucky knockdown that did no damage in the first round when he caught Collazo backpedalling and off-balance, and a whole lot of sensationalism and hype.
Collazo was the better fighter throughout the night, and got robbed.
Americanns respect fighters from anywhere around the world, as long as they have real talent and put on a good fight.

ohh..i see.....you're going to say that those judges in the biggest fight of any of their careers weren't swayed to pull for Hatton?....no pressure right? there was no talk of a PBF-Hatton or Hatton-ODLH before the fight right? Rember Hatton was supposed to walk through Collazo and I think the judges judged the fight that was as well....I think they gave every close round to Hatton because Hatton was SUPPOSED to win this fight...Where's the rematch?...that tells you who won that fight....COLLAZO!!!
Re: Why do British people do this to British fighters?
I think bigragu should do his homework before he slates young Hatton.
Seven weeks before the fight Ricky was scheduled to fight at Light-Welter H.B.O. said the opponent was not box office material and told Hatton to fight the Welter Collazo ( or something along those lines ) hence the not having time to grow into the weight. I can assure you that if he does stay at welter he will be a far tougher proposition next time out.
Re: Why do British people do this to British fighters?
But he didn't win did he? Because Ricky has the WBA belt, check it out Ricky is 41-0 so he can't have lost.
Perhaps you believe in your opinion that Collazzo SHOULD have won the fight, but he didn't. Just like Ruiz's manager against Valuev you can't change the outcome once its been decided. Its not down to Ricky to give Collazo a second shot, that would be a backwards step on his ultimate goal of trying to set a date for PBF.
It is Collazzo responsibility to rebuild his career. He didn't get robbed, he didn't defend his title well enough

He certainly defended it better than anybody expected. Hatton is not ready for PBF and if he does not give this guy another shot he has reconsider fighting at this weight because Collazzo is not much compared to elite fighters. His goals may be to fight PBF, or De La Hoya but he has no business in the ring with those two.

Because PBF can get alot more $$$$$$$$ and a much tougher fight from Oscar!! The fact that you try to make it sound like Floyd is ducking Hatton shows us that your opinion is jaded the OTHER WAY!!
Actually, Hatton could do alot for his rep by following Floyd's lead and getting a more convincing win, like PBF did vs Castillo!!

PLEASE! Have you seen the pudgy fat lil fuk in between fights? Sucker balloons up to at least 170. I doubt it was difficult for him to get to the 140 mark.

Ok so which welters are better then collazo? Margarito? maybe altho he wouldn't outbox collazo! Judah.....hell no not on his last few showings. Baldomir? nope. Gatti? probably not, Shane Mosley? maybe about 2-3 years ago. And then we come to mayweather.. How does anyone know how mayweather would go on against a natural primed welterweight??? Zab Judah gave him all he could handle early on....and this is a fighter who has been beaten almost everytime he has stepped up....wether u agree or not, judah has lost to cory spinks, kostya tszyu and baldozar. Beating micky ward and a junior witter who had just fought in a 4 rounder does not make you world class. Mayweather looked far from the best fighter in the world in his only 2 outings at welter..but he got the W. So did Ricky Hatton. Its about time people respected that.

If hatton was from the USA then maybe, but his rep will be better if he goes out and stops Gatti. I highly doubt anyone would want to actualy WATCH a hatton-Collazo rematch for the action it has the makings of another borring night.

Boring night?? what fight were u watchin?? It was from boring to guys coming forward, how was that boring, it wasnt a great technical fight, if you want boring you should of watched the Hopkins/Taylor fights.

Re: Why do British people do this to British fighters?
Ricky deserves to have his ability questioned. I think he won the Collazo fight, but he looked like crap doing it. And I don't think its because Collazo is an awkward or difficult, because he wasn't good enough to capatalize on the one dimensional Hatton.
People grilled De La Hoya after the Sturm match, and rightfully so.
Also, wasn't it Ricky who said he wasn't ready for Mayweather? Hell, he's talking about fighting Gattie isn't he?

His shite performance against Collazo was a backwards step on his ultimate goal of trying to set a date for PBF too. It did nothing to convince anyone new that he was worthy, or to heavy up the purse for such a fight.
