Looked crap a couple of times, but who doesn't and we all know he was an emotional wreck for about 3 years whilts his fortune was being stolen in his divorce - not too mention fighting with a broken hand on a number of occasions
Aint unbeatable, but he's better than this thread suggests imo
Yeah look i dont really care about details....i just dont think hes unbeatable. ;)
and snakey im not one to get personal, but you really should analyse calzaghe's career a little more before dissing him....he is a long time champ and has beaten many seasoned pro's....in the process he has failed to lose a fight. whats more he's coming off a whitewash win against someone most of the critics were favouring to win....
everyone is beatable at some point....but give joe his props, this is his time....
if he loses to johnson then feel free to lay on this "oh but lacy was overhyped and calzaghe not so good" jargon all you like....i dont think its gonna happen though, but stranger things have happened after all...
until then respect a guy that has earned respect...
CC Miles always a man of reason.

Re: Alright this is enough hype people, Joe Calzaghe aint superman!
I think that Jeff Lacy was not his usual charismatic self on the night of the fight, he looked a little worried and downright nervous entering the ring in the MEN.
I think Lacy perhaps was a little too well marketed coming into the fight - but i still believe when he does what he does best i.e. All-out attack he is one of the best in the division.
I think he tried to adjust his gameplan to try and do a little more boxing than punching.
But his main downfall was paying calzaghe too much respect early doors. Calzaghe then capitalised on his speed and movement to punish Lacy.
Calzaghe grew in confidence and Lacy's diminished just as quickly.
It was an excellent win in the sense of all the critics and experts being hoodwinked by the Gary Shaw/ Dan Birmingham diatribe.
Lacy came to the ring with the hype..Calzaghe left with the hype.
But, getting a sense of proportion - Calzaghe has certainly been a straw-man on occaision (no heart) like his last contest when he flew at Ashira and then broke his hand - rather than getting on with the show and getting the job over with, he turned it into into a guard-less spa session. Then ensured the cameras where backstage to film the bandage coming off while whincing - that stank!
Its a good job Lacy agreed to re-sched the date to another time in ENGLAND - because if he said no, it has to be in America, Calzaghe might have shirked the challenge and Froch's words about him being a 'cherry picker' fighting little people on his 'own terms' would have been set in stone.
I think the Glen Johnson fight will be a tough tough night - and if Calzaghe's hand goes it'll be his first loss.
But i hope not.

Honestly... search the pair of thems posts... the talk about no one other than Kessler or Jeff Lacy...
Yeh everytime someone posts about kessler i crnt help thinking 'royal' has re-invented himself. Calzaghe is one of the finest 168lbs of all time IMO and therefore should be treated with respect. He is stil beatable tho and he shouldn't be judged solely on the Lacy fight...........altho ya can bet ya bottom dollar he would have been if he had lost! :P

Winston...whats the C stand for ?

Look everyone i said i dont think hes unbeatable...and yes he has fought some shit guys, who hasnt? But the fact hes been knocked down by that Salem dude (who the fuck is he?) and has sometimes looked ordinary against opposition and then all of a sudden after something like 11 yrs he unifies against lacy does mean he isnt unbeatable. My question is why has it taken him so long unify? You can say hes longest serving champion but why didnt he try and take on another champ? By the way wacko, dont compare kostya to joe coz kostya is more accomplished. He fought the best, ruled a division for 7 yrs and unified. If joe had fought the best then he would unified, correct me if im wrong. I like joe, i picked him to beat lacy by UD (you know how hard it is for an aussie to pick an englishman ;) ) and id pick him to beat kessler and mundine. To be honest the comment that pissed me off was one in the mundine/green clip thread where someone said "Thats terrible, both of these guys need to run if they are offered a chance at calzaghe"..or something like that. Mundine might not beat joe but can you name one person who has beaten mundine easily? You can say kessler if you want then i can say you havent watched the fight. Mundine was the first guy in quite a while to back kessler up and it was obvious kessler was weary of him. That bullshit injury story, he got extra time to recover so he can shove that injury excuse right up his arse. ;D
Re: Alright this is enough hype people, Joe Calzaghe aint superman!
THE SMW DIV. MAKES HIM LOOK LIKE SUPERMAN ;D ;) :D

Babe...don't dish that shit out if you can't take it.
You been crying about KT gettin his ass handed to him for months & months & pretty much the better part of a year since Hatton strapped it on him.
Again...don't dish if you can't take a reply.
Kostya fought the best? Ruled the division for 7 years? Who do you consider the best outta the names that Kostya fought?
Now before you get all bent on a tangent...remember...KT got his ass handed to him twice...once by Phillips...the other by someone that you have said was unproven & not all that in the past. Then again...I said the same thing...but we were both wrong weren't we.
Again...do not dish if you can take it.
The thing that is bullshit is the fact that you cant get behind Calzaghe because he's an englishman.
He's a champion & he's been reigning undefeated...that should be enough.
Also...I'm just talkin here...not trying to rip you one...just talking.

Also...you can cry all you want...but he still lost to Kessler...injury or not...Kess still won.
You just have a problem with the fact that Kostya hasn't conquered 168lbs yet don't you?
I think he's pretty close to that weight right now...you know...he may have a shot. ::**

Agreed...but then again...I suppose he wants to keep his # of title defenses & then move up & get a title from say...Tarver or Woods...this is just a warm up...but it could be like a cold hand shake.
Re: Alright this is enough hype people, Joe Calzaghe aint superman!
It seems whenever a British boxer gets a little hyped up people tear them down. I agree that they are probably sometimes overhyped, however........this is a British based board, and so as is life people want the best for their own. The people who tear down the hype are often (not always mind!!) Johnny Foreigner.
The two people catching the most flack at the moment are Calzaghe and Hatton both of whom are belt holders and undefeated. People should take a step back from nationality and accept that despite being British (Or Italian Welsh hybrid!) they are fallible! And other people need to take a step back and accept that Brotish fighters are going to attract more support on a home board. I am sure the mexican boards never shutup about Barrera.
There is no need to tear anyone down. If they are a belt holding professional boxer they are doing something right (even Valuev) because they had to be better than somebody at some point in their life to get that belt. So pipe down because abusing a fighter is immature and it pushes people more and more to make out like their fighter is infallible. Reading comments like; "For god sake can everyone stop hugging his F****** nuts!" has never made me reassess my opinion

I dont care if the guy if from f-ing mars. I like true fighters. Thats it. Joe is one. So he should take on the best. I THINK Tarver would ko him. (but i thought Lacy was going to send Joe into another world).
Re: Alright this is enough hype people, Joe Calzaghe aint superman!
Unfortunately it is the promoters who often stop the biggest fights happening as they would prefer more slightly smaller paydays than risk their fighters rep and possibly health on one big payday. I do think Joe will fight Tarver but given time, and depending on how he does against Glen. Even if he wins but feels knocked by the extra weight he may decide the better for it and stay at SM.

heres how i see it. Joe is 33/34 clock is ticking. stay at SM or go for big $$$ fights. Tarver (i think woud ko him) but Joe would get his big payday. ME? id go for "history". Is there any English (sorry, Welshman,to retire undefeated?). I guess not. Go Joe! Take on the best but dont ruin what you have at the moment.
