Re: People who like MMA...
One of the most important things to realize about UFC style fighting is that when someone does something really well, his opponent will be inclined to neutralize it. Hence, if you see someone very skilled at standup, if the opponent is a grappler, he's going to take that away if he can. So the best skills often are not seen. Boxing is a single skill, and in the best boxing, taken to a very hi level, it is very impressive to watch. If these same boxers were thrown into the ufc, their skills would not be seen if they fought a grappler, or brazillian style fighter who would quickly smother them and cripple their technique. I think if a fight is exciting, it is exciting, no matter if it is pure boxing or mixed. But if you have a fight like Silvia and Arlovsky as in UFC 61, it is utterly boring -- two guys who have limited boxing skills showing their one dimensional style for 25 minutes! Now that is horrible! And they are supposedly the best of the light heavies. Surely, there are horrible boxers as well, but generally, the best ones won't put on such a terrible display, since they will be doing only what they do best.

Heres the thing, if you like it..you like it. If you dont...you dont. I dont buy all that crap about boxing is an art blah blah blah. Everything that they say about boxing can be applied to MMA. I see a whole new dimensions in MMA: ground fighitng, submission, boxing, kick boxing, wrestling, throws, etc etc. to say its a slug fest is doing these fighters injustice.
Re: People who like MMA...
check this video out, its a pro boxer vs a mmaer( kick boxer)

Re: People who like MMA...
That right there is why I've been saying traditional boxing just doesn't directly cross over to MMA. A fighter with a great leg kick can give a boxer fits. They hurt like a mother fucker. I'll give it up to Vince I was suprised at how many of those he took before he went down.
Re: People who like MMA...
everyone knows that for equally matched fighters, the kickboxer will win the kickboxing match, the boxer will win the boxing match.
Just my opinion that I'd rather have the boxing base and learn to kick later, rather than the other way around. Boxers are the best pure punchers there are and kickboxers are th ebst kickers
Re: People who like MMA...
I agree Von that guy definately wasn't trying to trade punches with Vince
Re: People who like MMA...
Excellent point. cc. I thought of that after I posted. That guy wanted no part of a fist exchange, but to his credit, he knew how to win the match. The onus was on the boxer to take the fight inside but he didn't seem to try to do that. A guy like mickey ward I'm sure would take away the kicking room.
I'm not sure why in situations like that the boxer doesn't train for a month or so or whatever on leg kicks. Teach a boxer some muay thai leg kicks and that's deadly.
Re: People who like MMA...
I think it goes against some basic boxing techniques in regards to stance and stepping into your punches. Every time Vince set to throw he got cracked in the lead leg. I think this is why many people think of the MMA striking as sloppy b/c lots of the fights keep a much wider stance and use more looping punches. The end result is Vince should have rushed him and got him on the ropes or learn a few kicks him self.

Exactly.
Re: People who like MMA...
yeah he should have learned how to block them kicks, the reason he couldnt move in on the guy because his mobilty was taken out from them first few kicks.
Re: People who like MMA...
Not once did he step back and make the kickboxer come at him, then rush in. Just blindly followed him around the ring like a sheeple. And to think this is the guy who tko'd Tszyu :P
