Foreman was past his best post Ali IMO (71 to 74), so that makes it only one knockdown...
Holmes as well only went down once in his prime (ShaversII), as he too was past his best post Ali IMO (77 to 80)

That's RON Lyle and no one said Foreman's defense was good! I'm just saying if Holmes was a defensive guru then why did he get rocked all the time? We all know George just swung for the fences and sometimes got countered...so he went down vs Ron Lyle, he's a harder puncher than Renaldo Snipes AND shortly there after Big George put him to sleep.
As for Cooney he was trying to make a comeback...it was in 1990 and Holmes didn't fight that year, he laid off from 88 to 91

5th round wasn't it....and they had on 8oz gloves!!!! that fight was devastating!!!!! hard not to get hurt when they are basically using MMA gloves.....
Re: larry holmes--what do u think about him
One of the more exciting heavyweight fights I have ever seen...Foreman-Norton wasn't half bad either

I liked that one to....but they just showed the Foreman-Lyle fight last month on Classic ESPN...so it is really fresh in my warped mind...:) that is one of my favorite fights ever!!
Re: larry holmes--what do u think about him
I like it when they show Foreman's greatest hits...he was such a beast!!!
Poor Joe Frazier...beats Ali then gets knocked senseless in 2 fights with Big George
Same with Kenny Norton!

Foreman hits like a truck!!! Watching poor Frasier flop around almost pains me because I like both fighters...

LOL, I always enjoyed the knockdown when Frazier was clean lifted off the floor by Foreman's punch.
I always thought that, that was the most embarrassing moment in Frazier's career.... then I heard him sing... and last week I caught an old clip of him drowning swimming in the American version of Superstars ;)

He was undoubtedly motivated for that fight, and I am sure he rightly takes a lot of pride from that fight. But it was one last hurrah of prime Black Cloud, as IMO it does not hide the fact that he was slipping slowly post 1980, and often lacked motivation in fights, particularly 1983 onwards.
Re: larry holmes--what do u think about him

Long, long time since I saw that match...
From what I remember Whitherspoon was unlucky and the 12th was like a poor mans Holmes/Norton 15th...
And also remember after watching it (in late 85), big time wanting Tubbs to beat Whitherspoon, as i felt (with hindsight rightly) ol' Bomber Bruno would of had a better chance against TNT Tubbs rather than Terrible Tim.
Re: larry holmes--what do u think about him
i had holmes just about winning but close fight

But as you quite rightly put it, that fight, even defeat, was the making of Tim.
Which is rather ironic for the King of 'The Lost Generation'... ;)
