Re: Should we be worried? UFC taking over Boxing??
Well at least your open minded about it ::**
No one is suggesting that Hughes/Couture or any other MMA fighter would do well in boxing. Thats like saying a world class soccer player would be good at basketball. Likewise though a Pro boxer would stand little to no chance in an MMA fight. They simply lack the takedown defense or ground fighting skills. Not to mention the aspect of knees/elbows/kicks/ and fighting from the clinch
Re: Should we be worried? UFC taking over Boxing??
Actually your right !
Maybe i miss the point but there are certain sports that deserve more attention and acclaim than others .
Basketball and American Footballers have the best athletes in America just as Soccer players in the Uk are considered the premier athletes .
Sports such as Rugby and UFC might be visually entertaining but you know that its played at a low technical level .
Soccer is played at an incredibly high level whereas Rugby players whilst good athletes completely lack the skill to ever cut it at the top level in Soccer .
You can't take UFC seriously for a second.

First of all UFC is only one orginization in the sport of MMA.
MMA is a sport which requires great athleticism, great technical and scientific skill in an assortment of disciplines and a great dedication in training. Anyone that says different is simply ignorant about the sport and just making baseless uneducated comments. Entertainment value is purely subjective but the skill and athleticism of the MMA athlete can't be questioned.

Football players in the UK are not considered the premier athletes. Football as a game is the most popular team game in the UK. Rugby and UFC are high technical level sports. Rugby is by far more technical than football: the rules are more technical; there are more ways to score;the players have by far more options on the field;the player can use their hands and feet.
The reason rugby players don't cut it at football is because their rugby players. The same reason applies to boxers and all in fighters. There shouldn't be an argument; who's the best. They're different sports!
It's down to the viewing public who decide what's the best entertainment. Football is far more entertaining than rugby. But I'm not sure, at the moment, if most people think boxing is more entertaining than UFC.

I'm not questioning their commitment or dedication i'm saying the skill level is way below that of Boxing !!
Its all about Margins of error!! Whilst i don't argue that Matt Hughes is the best at what he does i'm saying UFC is a c plus sport Millions of people from all round the world take up Boxing and Thousands compete both in amatuer form and Professional codes .
UFC is a Fringe sport popular in America,Boxing is competed in worldwide and therefore has a far greater pool of talent of which only a few will reach top level .
You wouldn't dream of comparing Matt Hughes to Joe Calzaghe or Roy Jones because in terms of skill , speed and athletiscim there is no comparison .

Contender gave boxing a baby boost and a shot in the arm but it did not have the impact I was hoping it would. It was killed too quickly by coorporate assholes at NBC and terribly critizided by hard core boxing fans. We are our worst enemy. (JMO)
how right you are....another thing to be destroyed was the XFL....it was canned before it was even given a chance....the later games were great but people had already turned off the TV on it....
If 'Contenders' is the future of boxing, I want no part of it...
It is dribble
Stupid slow mo shots, edited fights and 'reality TV', it can get no worse IMO ;)
Damn right, i wanna watch the full fights for that crap. I dont mind watching the show but i wanna see all of the fights, i dont give a shit what someone is doing in the crowd. I dont wanna see mora sitting next to srl acting like he is as good as srl. I wanna see the two fighters fight like we see in normal boxing, not ROCKY THE TV SERIES.

UFC isn't a sport its an orginization. MMA is a sport that is wilidly popular worldwide. Especially in Asia, South America and Eastern Europe. Pride sells out huge arenas in Japan all the time. Many of its teams are based out of Brazil. Hughes is every bit the athelete that any boxer in the world is. The man was a world class freestyle wrestler before he started fighting. You might as well say that Lance Armstrong isn't an athelete and his sport doesn't count b/c its "fringe" Look man you obviously know absolutely nothing about the sport and simply want to bash b/c its not you bag of tea. So just walk away and stop embarrasing yourself
Re: Should we be worried? UFC taking over Boxing??

doesn't cock fighting have a tremendous following in Asia? UFC was great when the rules were very few....now with all the rules it is watered down....hey I'm gonna tackle you and get on top of you for 5 minutes with the hopes of mounting you or maybe i can grab your arm or neck....it's a way too regulated street fight....
Re: Should we be worried? UFC taking over Boxing??
If I were to describe boxing as just two guys swinging their arms at one another you'd call me an idiot and tell me that I didn't know what I was talking about. If I watched a couple of butterbean fights and an occasional tues night fight on ESPN along with Tyson's last PPV then tried to tell you that boxers just throw a couple of punches and hug each other all the time you'd call me an idiot and tell me to learn about the sport. The fact is you can over simplify any sport and make it sound stupid.
For Example: Soccer is just a bunch of guys kicking a ball up and down a field....basket ball is just a bunch of guys throwing a ball in a hoop....Rugby is just a bunch of fags running around in short shorts tackling each other in big piles. Football is just a bunch of pussy fags who need to wear pads so that they can tackle each other in big piles. Like I've said a million times the entertainment value of any sport is subjective. But to not really have a good understanding of a sport and bash it b/c you dont really care for it is naive, ignorant and just makes you sound like an ass.
Re: Should we be worried? UFC taking over Boxing??
I dont give 2 flying fucks about UFC. That is no attack on those that do like it, that is their free choice. It just doesnt match up to boxing IMO though. Boxing has its history, evolution, politics and all those other elements that much it so unique and special to me. I love my boxing. :)
