I can't explain it, so I was hoping someone would enlighten me, because it seems none of you have a problem with Irish Fighters, and all you yanks with a drop of Irish blood in you all of a sudden feel the need to wear tartan! I like Hatton, I respect the way Calzaghe handled Lacy, I of course like Eubank, don't know enough about Benn.
I just don't like LL ever since I saw the Mercer fight. Always felt that he was way way overrated and felt that he was a big strong fighter with mediocre capability. He made a name for himself by handling has beens, shot fighters, and guys who really have proven over the years to be fringe contenders (eg Golotas and Rahmans).

isn't the term 'you yanks' supposed to be condescending? :)

Re: Americans hate british fighters. Why?
Countries aside - i enjoy the 'people's warrior'
Felix Trinidad - PR god
Ricky Hatton - pride of manchester
Arturo Gatti - Thunder is a legend
Paquiao - the whole of the far east's champion
Barrera - mexican warrior
I also love the 'bad guy'
Mike Tyson
Chris Eubank
Carl Froch
One thing i dont like are the w*nkers who court the attention in a plastic manner- when really they only care about themselves:
Lennox Lewis (Londoner my arrse, suited him very well at the time for cash reasons)
Floyd Mayweather (ego maniac?)

It seems to be the simple problem that British boxing just has little or no exposure in the United States, so when they look at the record of Bristish boxers and dont recognise the names of British or Europeans on their records, then they say they haven't fought anyone. And as the US has the largest pool of boxers in any country, then they will produce a large amount of all fighters, so naturally most of the fights will be domestic, so those are the recognisable names. And because of distance problems, none but the best of British fighters will fight in the USA. Thus my argument is that Americans will call British boxers overrated until some quality Americans get their bums on the canvas.
As for the Irish, they tend to do a lot of their fighting in America, like our lad John Duddy, and that's why they are often preferred in America. That or Ireland were never the colonial oppressors, and ruled America from the capital city's parliament....

Why would we wanna watch British boxing when the world series of darts is on tv!

lol there is gatti no doubt he a big fan favourite.... but one... he canadian and italian and just like tito was very popular in america ..because alot of puerto ricans...( though tito is the man)
arturo has a lot of canadian and italian american fans..
aswell as just bieng extremely entertaining!! not taking anything away from gatti
but also he and others like him are way outnumbered by the the fanfare given to the likes of
roy jones jr, oscar de la hoya, floyd mayweather, pernel whitaker, etc...
plus very few english fighters get the recognition or promotion to get big fights in america etc... its like
were half a world away ??? :-\
lol

they dont call it land of opportunity for nothing....
theres prob alot of good english fighters who missed out on big money because they never got given the chance with a big promoter n shit.... i seen a few good brits that were domestically pretty big bout 10 years ago... given the right promotion and fights they could have been big....
i think its jus the lack of opps... n they not hated... jus not cared for cos they not known..
peace
Re: Americans hate british fighters. Why?
One reason why I dislike or hate most UK fighters is that all the Brits on here completely overhype them, and throw BS decisions, and any success at all from a UK fighter in Americans faces. Also its frustrating when guys like Hatton and Calzaghe NEVER fight out of their home country, or rarely their home city. I freely admit that I dislike Calzaghe, Hatton, and Hated NAZ. I'd say I grew to respect Lennox Lewis, and sorta like Scott Harrison, he is a warrior. It's just that Brits love to shove close or BS decisions in our faces and exaggerate a good UK fighter, when a good UK fighter occasionally hits it big. I remember how many Brits were pretty much guranteeing that Robin Reid was gonna kick Jeff Lacy's ass, then when he was crushed, they all disapeared until Lacy vs Calzaghe, then came back to once again rub it in Americans faces. It just seems like UK fans are...just snobbish bastards for the most part. ;D
