Marvin Hagler's chin. How would it hold up to Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn.

Hagler gobbled up big punching brutes like piranhas shredding a carcass.

Witness what he did to Hearns & Mugabi, when he was ageing & slow, is enough to tell you that Benn & Jackson would have ended up flat on their backs.

I am not sure Hagler was aging and slow with Hearns. I think that was his last fight where he was sharp and active in boxing. After that he seemed to lose a step by taking a year off. He seemed to lose some motivation after Hearns as though he reached the pinnacle and put his all in the Hearns fight. But he was not that slow with Hearns. He seemed fast enough and pretty good reflexes. With Mugabi after a year off he seemed more slow and then with Leonard he seemed even slower. I think Hearns was the last fight he was the real Marvin Hagler.

That's underestandable. Hagler won the fight. But he took a good amount of flush shots against Hearns. A murderous puncher. I think that caused him to slow down. I doubt it was motivation. He was motivated for Leonard.

I think he was motivated for Ray but not like he was for Hearns. Hearns really brought out his last great fight and effort. He was pumped up because of Hearns attitude and cockiness before the fight and he had been active to that point. The Mugabi fight I think surprised Hagler. I am not sure he expected that hard a fight. He had not been active to that point, and after beating Hearns he mentioned retiring since he could not get much more of a high than the Hearns fight.

Never seen either of those two but Hagler was not all chin. Hagler had one of the best chins but his defense and his chin is what would make it hard for anyone to stop him. If you watch his fights Hagler never allowed anyone teeing off on him with hard combos. He would take single big punches and make sure the other guy don't follow up with more punches. Like Mugabi's uppercut or Hearns right or Sibson's hook. Another thing, KO's mostly happen mostly from counter punching and Hagler almost never got counter punched because of his defense and reflexes. He had underrated defense.

Nice analysing Baller. He really did not get countered a second time, although with Hearns he took some big punches to the head and body. With Hearns he tucked his head in and let his arms fly.

He took some HARD punchs in that fight...I mean HARD.....Then again at hat time everything Mugabi threw was hard......Haglers chin sttod solid.....He took Mugabi's heart...John was not used to teeing off like that then have a guy come back at him.....Marvin is definatly a genuine Legend who was class all around.....Top two or 3 middleweight ever.....One of my all time favorites....Even if he did KO my #1 of all time Thomas Hearns

I honestly think Marvin's chin would stand up just fine to them two and he would stop them both.

I just want to reply to this again because i know more boxing, than i did in 2006. Julian Jackson is the hardest 1 punch KO artist i've ever seen, he even had Mike McCallum wobbling in the 1st round of there fight, and i've never seen Mike McCallum hurt like that, and his chin was up there with Marvin Hagler.

I can see the fight going pretty much the sameway as that, with Marvin Hagler maybe being knocked down early or being badly stunned early. But he weathers the onslaught and comesback to stop Julian Jackson in the middle rounds.

Nigel Benn doesn't hit as hard as Julian Jackson IMO, although he did have some impressive wins over fighters with good chins like Doug DeWitt, Robbie Simms. But he was just as vunerable as Julian Jackson, although IMO he does have a better chin than Julian Jackson.

But i can't see him being much more effective than Julian Jackson, he would stun Marvin Hagler early. But his chin would give out and he would be stopped round about the 7th round.

John Mugabi is very overrated he may of hit hard but who did he ever stop worth mentioning ? and what was his best win ? i don't think your find any good names he beat at all. His record was inflated with nobodies, and he made his name giving a good effort against Marvin Hagler. Other than that everytime he stepped up he was blown away.

And i don't think Thomas Hearns hit as hard as Nigel Benn/Julian Jackson at Middleweight. Im not saying he didn't hit hard of course he did, what he done to James Shuler was frightening, but just for overall punching power Nigel Benn/Julian Jackson hit harder.

Lastly i'd just like to say Marvin Hagler was a better boxer than people give him credit for. The way he boxed against Bennie Briscoe, Eugene Hart, Vito Antuofermo 1, was just damn impressive. And his handspeed was pretty good aswell, he fought on the backfoot for majority of these fights, and he boxed very well on the backfoot.

To answer the original question .. I believe his chin would have held up to be as solid as it always was against these two...& I cant see it being any other way..
