Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
:coolclick: s to all on the thread.
Now...here's my take on Miranda...I'm not anymore impressed with him than I have been in the past.
Totally expected him to blast Gibbs out. I like Willie Gibbs...a lot. He's a good guy & he's a decent boxer with pretty good power. Something that no one commented on & something that I saw...but thought that I was just drunk...or imagining it...he connected pretty well against Miranda & kinda rattled him.
Abraham & also Eastman have done the same...& IWO...this could be a problem in the future...but that can be said about most fighters at 160lbs...right?
Wrong. Here's my take on the possibility of Wright vs Miranda.
Miranda might MIGHT be able to stun Wright with his power...but he won't be able to knock him out nor will he be able to outwork Wright. At the risk of sounding cliche'...Wright is the true dark horse of the middleweight division...not Miranda...as I have said before.
Wright would frustrate Miranda as he does everyone else that he has faced over the years. Avoided by most of the talent in the division, Wright is a tricky customer & a tuff sell for most opponents. While Miranda might mince words & claim that he wants Wright...he won't in the end when it all comes down to it, nor will his power be accurate or focused enough to find a home. Sure I think that he will land some shots...but Wright will land more & control him with his jab...something that Miranda still doesn't deem necessary to use.
Anyone that watched the Abraham Miranda fight should have seen that.
Miranda's power will be a factor against anyone...period...especially Taylor, who was stunned by both Wright & Ouma. That says a lot. Taylor has answered all the questions about himself with a question mark instead of an exclamation point.
Miranda could answer pretty much every question posed by Taylor's doubters.
Miranda by knockout against Taylor...& rightly so.

I think Miranda has the power to knock anyone out, including Winky , Winky's problem would be commanding the respect needed to keep a guy like Miranda at bay. I see Miranda being very dangerous for Wright because of Winky's lack of power. I think that Miranda would walk thru Wrights punches and have the power to break that peek-a-boo defense. especially over the course of a 12 Round bout . I would favor Miranda in that match.
Miranda -vs.- Taylor = I would favor Taylor slightly over Miranda only because Taylor has the hammer ( power) to get that respect, and has the better overall boxing skills then Miranda . JMO

Miranda needs to turn his pawing reaching jab to a snapping one like Ike Quartey has

Oh bwoy...here we go. ;D Lemmee take a deep breaf!
Totally disagree with you...100%...but I like your right up. :coolclick:
Lemmee counter that. ;D
Wright's been hit by some of the heaviest handed fighters out there on his way up, he's never been knocked out convincingly, & he's also matched skill for skill with some of the most respected fighters in the game. Granted Wright has been beaten three times...but only two were actually convincing. The loss to Vargas was not a convincing one & they traded some serious leather. Of late that has become a habit that Wright has adopted to gain more fans...less tactical & more contact.
Wright's got the chin to take that approach. Miranda, heavy handed as he is was not able to knock Abraham out...he argueably stopped Eastman...& in my opinion...Wright's got the better defense & equally better chin. It's never wise to right Wright off...many have...& many have been surprised.
As far as the respect aspect goes...watch the Taylor match again...then tune in the Mosley fights.
Wright is an intimidating figure that is cut out when you hit the middle rounds. Power & skill goes out the window once the other opponent realizes that neither is going to work against Winky.
I'm not saying Wright's a world beater...but he's a class up from all the rest...he's as much of a step up in class as Miranda is a step up in power.

Although I like Taylor...he's proven one thing to me in the last two years...that he was better against lesser opposition...all of which had little to no confidence in themselves.
Miranda by shocking upset to everyone but me.
Taylor has a very weak defense if he has any at all...cliche as it is...his defense is his offence & on the backfoot...it's fwockin weak.
I no longer have faith in Taylor...no matter what he does.

:coolclick: Agreed. He needs to also get his defense issues worked out.
As muddle headed & injured as Abraham was...he continued to crack the hell out of Miranda with his right hand.
Miranda's power is a great equalizer & while I am not impressed with the Miranda of now...I think the Miranda of a year or two away will be quite a finished product.

I hope so, but he needs to fix that jab. He throws a better jab with his hands down then he does with them up....thats not a good thing

If you give Miranda a better jab he's a dangerous fighter, even more dangerous then he is. He doesn't even need a slick defensive style, if he kept his hands up after he throws a jab(even from his waist) it would be a good thing.

:coolclick: Very fair.
His trainer Jose Bonilla said the very two things he is working hard with Miranda during training is working on the jab and keeping the left hand up for better defense (also working on shoulder work to help the defense).
I think today he would KO Taylor, but to beat Winky he needs some polishing (and let Winky get a year or two older!)
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
Jose Bonilla should teach him to put his jab out there differently instead of pawing or reaching with it. What do you think Pantera Miranda needs to work on Pantera?

Can't :coolclick: ya for another 24 for...but the love's there.
That being said...the 1 round knockout of Gibb's was nice...but I'm just not sure what it accomplished in the grand scheme's of improving Miranda. Honestly...I was more impressed with the Abraham performance.
Anywho...totally agree with you on him KOing Taylor.
Wright? I just don't see the possibilities like others do. Wright's a lot smarter than most people give him credit for being. He tasted Mosley, Quartey, & Taylor's power & then & only then did he trade with them. He aint stupid enough to stand there & let Miranda crack him. He did the very same thing against Trinidad.
In that fight, Wright didn't like what he felt...so he didn't trade...he master classed Tito...& I think in the end...he'd use the very "peek-a-boo" plan on Miranda that I have grown to love...yep...the very one that everyone hates Wright for.

I see Miranda's awkwardness and power diluting the technically superior Wright. I see Edison getting those power shots in, and I see Wright having trouble stopping those shots from getting in its easier to be technical fighter and have success when you opponent is doing things correctly. I know that sounds strange... but its true. when your opponent is awkward its almost a disadvantage to be a technical fighter . That being said , I think Wright is a brilliant fighter , not taking anything away from him O0

You really think that Miranda is awkward?
Interesting. I just think that he's ruff around the edges...sloppy. Awkward, to me, is Soliman...& he's just all over the place.

The way he reaches with the jab is strange sometimes, he leans over his hip sideways sort of, not using his shoulders to turn into the jab and snap it. Sometimes though he'll throw a good strong jab to the body but its a dangerous punch for him because he keeps his chin ungaurded and leans his face in while throwing it.

True, however sloppiness is a form of awkwardness , especially when you can hit like Miranda can .. he also has very long type arms.. very strong physically .. just kind of awkward.. hehehe LMFAO ! ;) O0
