Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
I still think of Williams as a prospect too, this is his first real step up fight.
Anyway, I've gone all along with Margarito by late stoppage.
If Williams turns out to be a really tough guy with a good chin he could easily outwork, out quick Marg but I think its too big of a step up and I don't think his defense is good enough, he's really gonna need a good chin.

CC, he is still a prospect and all the prospects who have tried Margarito have had their asses kicked badly. I agree with all that you said, cept for the easy part, it is not easy to outwork Margarito by any means. The sucker starts slow but works up to an insane pace of about 100 punches around. He does get hit, but we know he can take it, Williams also gets hit but like you said we don't know if he can take it, I doubt he can. Few champions, contenders, and let alone prospects can take a punch like Margarito can, he's a tuff SOB.

CC, you're right, he wouldn't easily outwork him, more what I meant was if he could take Marg's punches then he should be able to outland Marg fairly easily cause he's a lot quicker and he throws a lot of punches too.
But don't think it will happen.

I am going with Williams. He has a confidence now and Margarito is overrated a bit. Margarito has not really beaten a quality guy impressively if you really study the record. I have changed my mind on this one. I pick Williams on decision.
Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
I'm tired of this "THE PUNISHER IS NOT READY TALK."
Oh, Williams is ready, make no mistake, ................. but he's not ready for Margarito. ;D
P-Will has had 35 fights, fought under the bright lights, watched by millions via hbo... I think he's pretty much ready for the next step. As for choosing Tony THE DESTROYER as this step, that's in question. But you gotta step up sometime in this sport! :) It's a belt, and a winnable fight for The Punisher.
I don't know what's with all this "development" talk these days.
I mean.... the man has 35 freakin' fights. Any more development and he's pampered IMO. We pamper our boxers. I don't recommend throwing them to the wolves like Team Vargas did with Tito, but these days I hear all this development talk, money, risk, blah blah...... just man up and fight for the prize! Williams is 25 and more than ready physically. Back in the old days, you were champ BY 25. haha I could be wrong on that, but guys.... it's well known we are pampering our boxers these days. :D

I mostly agree. After 30 plus fights,I'd like to think he would no longer be labelled as a prospect. And as you stated, with his physical attributes,it's certainly a winnable fight for him. Good point on the champions of yesteryear, like Benitez etc. Heck,I'm sure Azumah Nelson was fighting the legendary Sal Sanchez when he was merely 17?Pernell was fighting Roger Mayweather,Ramirez etc in his first 20 or so fights.
Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
To me its not how many fights, its who you fight.
JCC jr. could be 100-0 with the guys he's fighting and he'd still be a prospect.
A bit of an exaggerated example but Paul has really fought nobody.
The only thing is the speed, that's a big advantage for Williams.

Hmmm...interesting point. Makes me look at it a little differently. But hey,PW is RING top 10 too if I remember correctly(which is a bit low imo,he's better than some of the guys above him). I just don't like the fact(and I don't mean you personally Oumafan) that Margarito is taking another tough fight and even if he wins, some people will find ways to dismiss which is ridiculous considering how dangerous PW is. The same thing happened with the Cintron fight but Kermit has gone on to become a world champ and RING number 7. I'd rather Tony fight a livewire in PW,a hungry, dangerous guy than a shot older fighter.
Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
Williams better in almost every area and he's ready for prime time so definitely see him winning although a dog fight its Margorito's

Well Gamo, you and I both know who those people are that will discredit Margarito.
What makes this even funnier is that remember all those people talking shit! that Margarito was scared of Williams and that Margarito would never fight Williams, that Margarito would 1st vacate his belt rather then fight Williams.... ::**
How ignorant can some people be, just typing away without thinking 1st.
But anyway what matters now is that the fight is made and if all goes well they'll be face to face on Sat. night which is gonna be a helluva night. 8)
Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
I'm going with Toni on points, Paul gets hit too easy and he has been rocked before....he throws good but his defense SUCKS.

You guys should'nt worry too much about the haters. After Margarito's next two fights they will all be hiding under some rock.
This is a tough fight though and I just don't know what will happen this Sat. And as much as I love Cotto, being from PR myself, I just don't see him beating Margarito. I will of course root for my boy Cotto all the way.
Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
.....haters never go away just look at the Wlad Klitschko threads....they'll find something they didn't like about the way Toni fought or something sheisty that happened during the fight.....I hate to sound cynical but JT knows hating....ask him about it, he's a Floyd fan I am sure he'll fill a post about why Margarito doesn't deserve to fight him and make it sound like Floyd isn't DUCKING Toni....but hell who are we kidding Floyd wouldn't fight Williams if he won either
Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
I think tony should get this if he fights well and keeps williams busy up top. A hard punch would surely slow the bigger man down and with tonys experience i think he has the tools to stop him. But williams can dish it out himself so it should be a good fight i feel.
im thinking either a stoppage or a hard faught SD margarito
Re: Who wins Margarito or Williams?
I think Paul Williams Will win it, His arm reach is just amazing at that division. If they go into a slugest I still see Paul Williams coming out cleaner then Antonio Margarito. I will be real though I've only seen Antonio Margarito fight once so I just giving a prediction. Though I have been nothing but impressed with Paul Williams. I was rooting for Antonio Margarito to win so we can see him vs. Miguel Cotto hopefully which it will be onca again Puerto Rico vs. Mexico. Though I'm not going to just root for him for that reason. I see Paul Williams winning
