fuck all that tap tap run shite eh ICE? ;)
Im all for hit and not get hit. I'd just rather see it done the way Calzaghe did to Lacy rather than the way Mayweather did it to Baldomir. It doesnt have to be as dull as dishwater.

Memphis i would rather watch toe to toe battle if i was buying it but if i was a pro boxer i would do what Mayweather does.
Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
Everyone would. The trade off being that average Joe who wants a bit more bang for his buck finds you a TV turn off. Give him Gatti any day of the week.
Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
Mayweather's real motto:
Boxing is about hitting and avoiding real matchups.
and throw cash at the camera. haha This lame guy is dictating what boxing is all about? heh
Damn... you guys are short-sighted.

I do agree that it needs to be watched again to score it properly, kinda hard with a room full of people hammered on whatever their poison is at 4am ;D
Well theres two reason's i didn't one i didn't think it would be much of a fight and i was right and second i didn't want to waste money on fight i didn't think would be much of a fight but i will maybe reconsider with Hatton vs Castillo that has slugest written all over it ;)
ice its different when u watch it live....like when i watch a fight the next day its not as exciting but live man it was awsome the atmosphere and vibe gets the blood rushing
but hey thats just me matey
didn't wana waste money mate i know it was massive and ect but i knew it wouldn't live up to the hype and i was right i
only pay for fights where i think there going be good toe to toe battle or atleast good action.
Nice post Ice CC from me. However I find the highlighted statement above a little contradictory considering the opening of this post from you. I realise it's being picky. The point you make at the start is totally valid and true IMO. The occasional boxing fan tends to like the all action toe to toe fights with all the blood and guts however people who know boxing a little better can appreciate "the sweet science" as well as a good tough fight but between good fighters not pub/street brawlers. My view is that the occasional boxing fan may not see the difference and might prefer the pub/street brawler style of fight and this may explain some of the popularity of the UFC/MMA style at present. Two fights spring to mind for me. The first and kind of obvious one is Chico v Castillo. A tough fight, lots of toe to toe action b/w two great fighters and everyone here (i assume) loved/loves to see that fight. The second is the B-Hop v Tarver fight. For me it was great to watch how someone with boxing skill can outclass another fighter. There wasn't much toe to toe action from memory but still I enjoyed it. I've had coffee - I'm raving.................. But I guess the skill of boxing is what you are referring to in the opening post and above and how it can be appreciated in fights such as PBF showed in the ODLH V PBF fight and this is as much good boxing as say the castillo v corrales fight. Ok I'll leave you all alone now and go relieve some of this coffee from my system.

CC back i like a good solid tactical match sometimes but if its like 17 pound or ect to be honest i would rather get it in a couple of days but thats my opinion mate but point im trying to make is boxing is about hitting and trying not to get hit back of course we all like slugfest but what im saying is thats what boxings all about and thats why guys like Gatti who blocks punches with his face never made it to elite level even though he was one of the most exciting fighters.
Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
Yes true and a well made point. Hopefully that style of defense used by Gatti wont prove to be harmful in the long term.

Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
To me boxing is about beating your opponent whether your toe to toe or not.
Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
I agree with the title.
To emphasize the HITTING first.... then not getting hit second.
I never give credit to a guy that is focused more on not getting hit than he is on landing punches. The goal is to knockout your opponent. If someone treats it like a basketball game just trying to outscore their opponent, won't win a found on my card.
Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
ON thing is evade punches and cover yourself like Winky among others but to run all day the fucking ring like track and field is ridiculous

Exactly what "real matchups" has he avoided?
Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
This is the reason Boxing was so great. This is the reason why Floyd could barely got the peoples recognition of his talents they just are not interested at that kind of boxing. Don't get me wrong I hate the guy but he has an incredible talent. Look a Direll that guy would probably won't fight at HBO again.

CC EXACTLY! HIT is the MOST IMPORTANT thing!CC
Re: Boxing Is About Hitting And Not Getting Hit
I like to watch boxers, that doesn't mean I like to watch guys that just concentrate on defense and never throw punches, but Floyd's interesting to watch, except for a fight or two.
But I don't think there's any doubt that boxing would be more popular to the casual fan if more of the fighters were action oriented. Most people just don't have that much interest in sitting through twelve slow paced tactical rounds. A big boxing fan can be entertained by a guy like Floyd even if he's not in an "action fight", but I don't think many casual fans are that blown away by him blocking punches with his shoulder, or jabbing to the body.
Look at MMA. I think most people watching want to see the fighters on their feet throwing punches. The most exciting part of the sport is boxing/kickboxing, and they don't do it nearly as well as boxers. But its shorter, people don't have to sit through 12 rounds, and there's more knockouts, more action.
