Re: Sugar Ray Robinson 169 Vs Rocky Marciano 188
Somebody ought to take a minute and check up on just how big a role getting cut played in Marciano's career. You might be suprised to find out that cuts played a factor in 2 fights, Walcott I and Charles II. That latter cut, that split his nose, was caused by an elbow. The assumption that he busted up and bled like Henry Cooper is just flat out wrong.
Also keep in mind that, while he was a masterful puncher, Robinson was not the hardest guy to hit, nor was he an especially elusive boxer. Why would he be? He could out-punch everybody he fought. He would have to fight 100% contrary to his nature to have a chance at beating Marciano.
This fight might go 6-8 rounds if Robinson ran and it took Marciano some time to catch him. But he'd have no respect for Robinson's power- he had no respect for anybody's power- so he'd walk him down and smash him.

Exactly, the only way we can look at this fight is p4p - it couldn't have happened anywhere else even with SRR going way up to challenge Maxim. Doubt even he was crazy enough to go up to heavyweight though.
P4P it's a brutal, brutal annihilation of Marciano.
I think the fight could have happened reading from threads on here, if Robinson had beaten Maxim, it would have been massive, although the result inevitable.

Really? That's insane! SRR had some balls
That is what some poster said in another thread. Have not worked out the dates though.
