Also you seem to not have noticed that Henry Armstrong and Pernell whitaker at 140 who chavez ducked in a rematch after their draw. Sugar Ray Robinson even fought a lot at 140 or 142 during welterweight fights and hector camacho is someone also considering and Armstrong and Whitaker were surely better than Loi cervantes and Loche hell Loi never even fought out of Italy just because a websiute has listings and has them listed as a weight class it dosent mean they wouldnt or didnt excel at another weight class and lets make sure we are talking about matchups here i agree with chavez mayweather would be a great fight but frankie randall de la hoya although chavez was past his prime as well as meldrick taylor gave Chavez a lot of trouble and the hand speed of mayweather would give chavez a lot of trouble. O wait didnt Aaron Pryor knockout Cervantes in the fourth round idc if he was past his prime he was crushed by pryor and lost to multiple journeymen with losing records by knockout. When u come from the same town as willie pep you know about no name or not really well known fighters that were great a legend dosent neccesarilly mean u were the most popular. Anyone who says pep isnt a legend dosent know boxing.Mayweather hammers cervantes loi and beats loche and chavez on points he losses to Whitaker in a close decision but ouitpoints Armstrong possibly outpoints Pryor if he can withstand his power.Lets also not forget benny leonard who was usually 137 or 136 when very few fights were for titles he modern day would be a 140 guy and he had 70 kos in 90 fights with only 5 losses we need to keep this guys in mind LEGENDS
I'm like the movie here 'Lost in translation' you would point things out and then back track on them.
Then youd say they beat a fighter but were past their best....
Not sure here...
I'll start off with what I can make out...
I didn't mention the other fighters cause I could possibly have them rated at another div. for example SRR I have him rated as a Middleweight I think he did his best work there...
Where you lost me is that I was trying to prove to you that Pryors NOT the best 140 lber. and I listed names but you also brought up more names???
Not sure what that was for or I must be half asleep (it is 1:00 in the morning here)
I've discussed this several times Pryor had a very short career and just didn't do enough for me to consider him the best 140 lber. ever....
Re: what does floyd ahve to do to become a legend?
Clean out 147. He is one of the most defensively skilled ever but he has a long way to go before he can be in the class of the top 20 or so ATG.

My fault for assuming...
Cause a while back there was a topic here about PBF vs. B-Hop... Then someone else said PBF vs. Maskaev :D
Throw D-Hop in the same barrel as Cintron....
Funny not too long ago I was the one calling for D-Hop I really think the kids onto something and hes shown skill
But right now the kids done nothing that could possibly help PBFs legacy.... PBF would get no credit for beating him either.... The kid got pushed around by Forbes. PBF would outclass him and fly by him with flying colors....

I ain't hattin' were discussing something I'm just telling you how I see it....
Cintron was overwhelmed by Tonys punches he got beat by someone whos slower then PBF.
Did you see how Cintron struggled with Estrada?
I mean he was almost out on his feat....

I'm with 'ya on this one and if not Spinks....
Another match up that I brought up in a thread where someone asked what next for PBF?
I said how about he fight Simms? I mean the kid just came back but hes shown tremendous skill and hes fighting this weekend I think. Simms is takling about exposing Alcine so we'll just have to wait and see what happens in that fight...

Yeah! I mean if Paulie can run his mouth and shake up some trees and cause some attention who knows I mean the kid managed to get a shot at Cotto by doing so... If he can continue to win and be exciting hes already got HBO backing him they might be able to make it happen for him...
nathan what about seeing D-Hop vs. Paulie in a showdown? 8)
Re: what does floyd ahve to do to become a legend?
In my opinion there are two ways for PBF to truly achieve the status of a legend.

This is the obvious one. Beat Mosley, Hatton and whoever wins 'the tournament' and Floyd can retire with no names left standing. Do it within a year or two, and there will be nobody between 135 and 154 who could arguably claim to be p4p whom Floyd have not beaten. Furthermore he will have beaten every single potential HOF'er who have competed at these weighths during this decade (1). Not really much more to do then, is there?
The other - and more difficult - way is beating the winner of Taylor-Pavlik. Then PBF would have won the WBC belt in 6 consecutive weight classes, as well as the Ring belt at lightweight, welterweight and middleweight. Like him or not, that would be a pretty damn impressive record to have. I am not saying PBF could do this, but I wouldn't completely rule it out either (also, if Spinks had got the nod against Taylor, this would have been the obvious 'one fight to become legend'-route).
(1) With the exception of Tito and Winky - but none of them have ever really been less than three divisions above Floyd, so he can easily be forgiven for not fighting them.

the thing we gotta realize here is that regardless how good D-hop is or not hes gunna get big fights because of his name and promoters oscar and uncle bernard. We all know he looked bad in his last fight but got the decision anyway. Good call on Travis Simms i'm going to see him fight Saturday but i doubt Floyd would ever consider him his promoter has yet to get him a big name fight he has talent but will it be recognized??? And dude you gotta be serious Aaron Pryor hammers all of those guys except maybe Chavez. All those guys never had any big fights.

Answering to the question, if Floyd beats Hatton and wins against the so-called "welterweight series winner", he'll simply be the best fighter of his era and since this era is like any other, that goes to say he'll be one of the best fighters of all time - being a legend takes more than just winning those two fights, just consider how many fights Robinson lost and nobody questions he is a legend...
Re: what does floyd ahve to do to become a legend?
Tbf..
On second thought.. Its bs if you cant admit..Which you can cos he is..
gotta admit that he is p4p number 1 over this generation..
But he must be the only p4p no1 who isnt being called a legend..
Re: what does floyd ahve to do to become a legend?
If he beats Hatton and later beats the winner of Cotto-Margarito and ends his career with a win/loss against Mosley, than floyd Mayweather in my book has proven his point and doesn't need to prove anymore.
But, If he continues to duck the great fighters just because they won't bring enough money, or aren't big money fighters...than he's never going to win the respect he deserves. He needs to fight the best and prove himself. Don't fight fighters whos' style favors him....he needs to fight whomever, whenever.
Mosley fought the best, Tito fought the best, Oscar is still doing it, and Hopkins did it.
Stop worrying about the money and start caring about his legacy.

I don;t think that will matter. He's already had almost as many fights in his career as Ray Leonard had.
His biggest problem is that boxing isn't the sport it once was. There arn't the superstars any more and even if fought the very best at 140, 147 and 154 there still wouldn't be any superstar names on his record.
Mayweather will never be as big as Leonard, Hagler, Duran etc no matter how many fights he has and who he beats.
Don't blame the sport!!! Fights like Leonard, Hagler, Duran fought and let everything on the ring when they had to do it, and they will be great in any era. The problem I see with Mayweather is that he is showing great skill to avoid being punched, but he is not having great battles. Kind of ironic but, at this moment he has been able to beat most of his rivals easily without the need of pressing the fight and create a real battle. Although dominating easily he is not winning with impressive KO's. And, probably this is something the general public wants to see, but he is not giving that part.
Re: what does floyd ahve to do to become a legend?
A legend ? Beat Hatton, Cotto and Mosley in the next 12 months and he is there!!!

even with all the belts from the multiple divisions he won't get there..IMO he is.....but I think it will take him unifying a division...all the greats have done it.....you gotta get the gold and lock it up....

IMO...
Stop being so picky with his opponents and fight.
3 or 4 fights a year for 2 years.
Anyone of the following...
Hatton, Cotto, Mosely, Margarito, Hopkins, Berto, Winky, Tito
He doesn't even have to beat all of them, just give it everything and perform well. (Stop trying to protect an undefeated record.)

And that my friend is why I like Tito he will fight anyone!!!!
And that is why he is called a Legend and a future HOFer
Re: what does floyd ahve to do to become a legend?
FLoyd has the talent and skill of a legend, IMO right now he needs to set up big fights with guys like Hatton and Cotto. The De La Hoya fight made him a household name, everyone is watching him now so he has to take advantage of that by winning more big fights. Victories over Ricky Hatton and Cotto would catapult his legacy to that of a legend IMO, but if he choses to retire right now while he's still in (ot at least not too far off) of his prime and there are still huge fights to be made and more to be proven, history won't give him the credit that his skills deserve. He'd be short changing himself and boxing fans everywhere.
