Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
I think some people are flying off the handle a little prematurely. Daxx Im shocked you put so much stock in what is in all likelyhood a throwaway comment.
Not wanting to single you out mate but there are a few I would expect to treat this snippit as gospel, not you though ;)
I posted this on the Hatton forum to guage the difference in response. Its as expected to be honest. Its been treated as very little over there, whether thats genuine or the need to tow the line I dont know, probably a mixture of the two.
Its no surprise to see a few people steaming straight in over here though ;D

:coolclick: #958. You basically said what I was trying to say, only much better.
C'mon guys, you don't seriously believe that with the money Hatton can make from this, he'd turn it down if it wasn't at 140lbs. For years, this is the fight Hatton has wanted. He'd take it at any weight, anywhere. No fight means more to his career than a fight with Mayweather. Plus, Ricky didn't say this, his dad did. Despite them being in the same camp, it's not gospel and shouldn't be taken as such.

Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
I think people are jumping the gun a little we do not actually know if Ray said this personally i don´t tend to believe what is reported in papers etc... Rick has said he wants the fight and if it can be made it will be, if its not don´t automatically blame Hatton, I would rahter play a waiting game and hear the facts from those who really know. :)
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
I'm stunned by level of venom being spat towards Ricky over this.
Actually I'm not...
You haters like to think of yourselves as objective but the bile comes through in your posts loud and clear.
You'll spin it into what you want. One persons 'fury' igniting anothers...without any real regard for what's being said ::**
The weight won't be an issue. It's only a minor incovenience for Floyd. It's not like he packs on the pounds or is afraid of a bit of road work is it?
Even if Floyd vetos 140lbs, the fight could still realistically happen at 147. Ricky weighs more on fight night than Floyd does (even at light middle). Both guys would still retain thier biggest physical weapons at 140 or 147.
Not 100% sure what Rays motivation is for saying this but I suspect it's to do with the fact that Ricky Hatton is still the draw here...people forget that. Why shouldn't Team Hatton dictate the terms?
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
I guess Hatton is hoping that PBF will pull off a Roy Jones and come into a 140lb fight sluggish from trimming off the lean muscle.
Still though this is pretty shitty for Ricky to do. ALl he did was talk shit about how Floyd was ducking him, and now he refuses to fight at 147 to make this mega fight happen? Common Ricky
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
I don't see a problem with Hatton trying to get the fight at 140. He seems more settled at that weight, and Floyd could make 140 with little difficulty. What's the big deal?

Can anyone link me to these articles where Ricky talks shit and he says Floyds ducking him..?
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
I heard him on the radio the other day, he didn't say that. He said something like - if the Floyd fight was made at Welter Ricky would still train to his 140 weight and the two of them would enter the ring around the same weight on the night anyway...then went on a three day waffle about how they made a mistake with Rickys weight in the Collazo fight and it would never be repeated thats why he would train to his 140 weight
Hope this helps.
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
It probably wont ;D
Let the truth get in the way of bashing someone? never.
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
;D
A couple of weeks ago Hatton calls Floyd out live on TV after demolishing Castillo but now from a couple of lines in a newspaper that don't contain any quotaion marks it's obvious Hatton don't want the fight and is a bottler.
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
memphis, this response would be the same on this board if it was ANY fighter,
I flipped out when Taylor talked about going up to 168 for the Pavlik fight.
I guess subconsiously I hope me post del outrage will be heard by the fighter
in question and change their mind.
I'll wait for a little while but if Hatton books against Malignaggi, when he had the
opportunity for a second time to fight floyd, what can conclusion can be made?
Other than he doesn't want to fight Floyd (you can debate the reason, but the result
is the same regardless)
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
It would have something to do with the TV date and the time needed to properly promote the PPV.
Think of the build up involved in PBF v Oscar. Everyone involved would happily pass this up this year for the sake of being able to really get behind it early 2008.
If the Malinaggi fight does happen it's primarily for that reason...that and one of Rickys personal ambitions is to top the bill at MSG and Malinaggi simply represents the best option for that at 140.

not really..because floyd will just stay retired and ricky will be viewed as ducking floyd...also it proves that he didn't have an "off night" against collazo and he just was getting beat up and knows that if collazo did that to him at 147 floyd will kill him....
yes really, Floyd has to defend the WBC 147 pound title until December and if Ricky decides it to be 140, it's not gonna be for the WBC welter W, then if Floyd stays retired, he loses the WBC title, we get rid of Floyd and the welterweight series continues... Good move Ricky, I wouldn't be surprised if Hatton, Barrera, Oscar and Shane planned it this way but Floyd is still waiting to make money after the May 5th ( Oscar made money then and didn't give Floyd the rematch where he would get the biggest part of the purse)
Re: Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me
As Sweet Pea wrote earlier, the best weapon against Floyd is a strong jab by a fighter with some length. Oscar, when he used it, was peppering Floyd with his jab, but then for some unknown reason gave up on using it. Hatton doesn't have the build nor the skill to give Floyd problems....ESPECIALLY at 147. This fight is never going to happen at 147 and unless Hatton goads Floyd to fighting at 140....this fight wont happen PERIOD. Hatton would get badly beaten at 147 and i really cannot see Floyd wanting to fight on Hatton's terms by going down to 140.
