I don't agree with that look at MAB and his broken english I don't think that I has changed
anyone's opinion of him his marketability comes from what happens in the ring.
Another example is Mayorga, he markets himself just fine without using English.

I went out of the country and tried my best to understand foreign languages and use them and so on, it's just a matter of respect.

You see Lyle Americans Travel around the world and most of them complain why people doesn't know english at foreign contries. Can you believe that crap. So basically I'm saying that while people try to learn english americans never try to learn another language. take me for and example my everyday is in spanish but I manage to learn english I get mad when and american come visit Puerto Rico he complains that some people doesn't talk english and when I told the guy "Hey you are in Puerto Rico why you should try to talk spanish" he got mad.
lmao learn an entire foreign language just because your visiting there? now thats funny.
Yes "english" speaking people who go to another country and get aggrivated at the non english speaking people is just silly. However lyle brings up a great point. You come to this country (usa) speak the god damn language. Pretty simple. You work in this country? Speak the god damn language.
My family moved to this country in 1976. my grandparents and their 11 kids all learned god damn english in 6 months. Its pathetic when i go to the DMV and i see 200 people all using the same god damn translator. Makes me wonder, you cant read/speak english, and your driving?
GOD DAMN!
Agreed, CC

IMO that is a huge show of disrespect to America and it's citizens
Let me say this on that...
I hate the fact that the bill was not passed...but that bill was a turd in a toilet, IWO, from the start.
There are too many American companies making too much profit off of illegal immigrants for that bill to pass & too many of those American companies making too much profit off of illegal immigrants are lining to many senators & fat cat's pockets for that bill to pass in the first place.
Governments are so gotdam corrupt it makes me sick!
NAFTA was a bad move
The bill was total BULLCRAP, we need to enforce the laws we already have not make new ones

Maybe, not in every case but it does help for a fighter to built a rapour with the fans.Especially when the fighter isn't the most exciting in ring.
Re: Anyone here thinking Margarito should be speaking English?
He's a welterweight who lives in Tijuana
Most of his "fans" speak Spanish

He was born, not raised in the USA.......... And you have that US silver dollar way too far up your ass to bring in lack of respect. Not everyone has a desire to speak English. This has nothing to do with respect but only limits his marketing ability. You are the typical US citizen that refers to himself as American when everyone in South,, Central and North America is an American. The same kinda US individual that wants to pay abroad with US currency but feels that paying for a Pizza in Texas with pesos is a crime.

Heck, even Pac doesn't speak english that well but he's trying his best and not ashame of it. Margo should do the same thing too especially knowing that he's an american born citizen.
Why do have to bring Pac into every topic? I'll tell you Filipinos are not disrespected the way Mexicans are in this country. The average fillipino comes into the USA with a silver spoon via the US military or a medical profession ticket. Either way they do not come into this country earning substandard wages.
If Margarito speaks in broken English he will be perceived/ labeled as a cholo, uneducated or even the harsher wetback. So what if he does not master the language! Why should he allow the situation to control him for the sake of giving announcers material?
Pac's tore up FOB version of English does not even cause me to bat an eye. Filipinos are not part of the great make up of racial profiling here in the USA, yet!

Unless you really
can't speak English, in which case then that's what good translators are for. And agreeing with my friend Puerto Rican Punch, I haven't seen much in the way of good translators in boxing lately.
Yeah, agreed.....Wladimir and Vitali and Golota and a number of other fighters know english and they use it sometimes better than others. If you know it, use it.
I mainly have issue with people who live their everyday lives in America without at least TRYING to learn english. I'm not a bigot but hey EVERYONE ELSE WHO IMMIGRATED HERE LEARNED IT.
Which is of course completely off topic but oh well
Margarito was only born here and not raised here .........

Why is learning and speaking English so ridiculous? You are saying learning something new or foreign is ridiculous?
You come to this country to fight and you were born here and yet you still don't dare to speak her language? That is stupidity if you ask me.
What does it matter if he was born here, he was back in Mexico when he was a week old!! That's like saying that if I was born when my parents were on vacation in China, then I should feel obligated to learn Chinese.
And what does it matter if he's fighting in the US? Should Lamon Brewster have conducted his postfight interview in German last week?
I'll always applaud someone for learning a second language, because it's an impressive thing to do, but Antonio Margarito is under no obligation to learn English. Personally, I'd rather have a fighter speak in his native language, where he can clearly express his thoughts thru an interpreter, instead of struggling to conduct an interview in a second language.
Thank you for having a brain as now I can click out of this topic ...
