Re: The British (and Irish) RBR Returns - Dunne v Martinez and Oakey v Magee
Round 1:
Although Martinez is a banger with an undefeated record...Dunne goes into this one as a 3 to 1 favourite. Martinez gets a round of boos as he's announced and his record, while the audience erupts once again for Dunne. There are a few Spanish fight fans in the crowd, but Martinez definitely knows he's in foreign territory tonight. I was thinking...if you say Bernard Dunne quickly in an Irish accent, it sounds like "Burn it down". And finally we're under way.
Dunne lands a couple of jabs as they come out. Martinez to the body, but Dunne with a jab, and a hook. Dunne seems to slip, but Dunne takes the mandatory 8 count. Martinez launches fgorward, missing with big hooks. Overhand right, and Dunne is down again. Another 8 count. Big body shot, and huge hooks from Martinez, Dunene is sending nothing back. Ref has waved it off.
SENSATIONAL. Martinez by first round KO. His career has gone down the pan, and Martinez has proved his worth.

. . . inside a minute
The commentary were awful . They said the 1st kd was a slip . Blatantly not . The 2nd and they were silent and then they were just stunned at the finish . Well done to the Spanish guy 17-0 with 14k.os . Good fighter
Re: The British (and Irish) RBR Returns - Dunne v Martinez and Oakey v Magee
That first shot had him wobbled..he never had his legs.
Re: The British (and Irish) RBR Returns - Dunne v Martinez and Oakey v Magee
Dunne looks distraught and dazed in the corner there. We knew that Martinez was a bit of a banger, but as he swung huge clubbing hooks....agricultural but very powerful, Dunne couldn't compose himself to throw anything back. Ref was right to wave it off, as Dunne was shot.
It seems to have stemmed from a big shot very early which caught him on the top of the head. Martinez is understandably delighted.
Martinez took 1:26 of the first round to finish off Bernard Dunne....who will have to really have a long look at himself now. Martinez is the new Super-Bantamweight champion of Europe. The arena is deathly silent, and a lot of Irish fans, critics and boxing fans have all been proved wrong here tonight.

The first two knockdowns were inside a minute, but 1:26 altogether.
Re: The British (and Irish) RBR Returns - Dunne v Martinez and Oakey v Magee
Dunne says: "I was in great condition coming to this fight. I got caught cold and I don't know what happened. I'm gutted, and I'm more disappointed for you guys."
Dunne looks close to tears, as the crowd goes crazy cheering him as he is asked whether he can come back.
"Fair play to Kiko, he did very well, and that's just boxing sometimes."
Dunne seems none the worse for the defeat.
Kiko says (through an interpreter): "All the people around me backed me at 66/1 for a first round KO. I didn't, but they have won well."
His coach said: "I'm disappointed for all the home fans, but that is boxing, and that is sport."
Both fighters cheered as Dunne goes back to look at his career and where he can go, and Martinez can go to plan his future success.
Re: < Bernard Dunee (Spoiler) >
What a good sport Kiko was.
Re: The British (and Irish) RBR Returns - Dunne v Martinez and Oakey v Magee
Sucks, this was my first look at Dunne...well, Martinez looked powerful.

Superheavy, I joined my topic here into yours.
It's better this way.
Re: The British (and Irish) RBR Returns - Dunne v Martinez and Oakey v Magee
Having watched the whole (lol) fight again, it's difficult to say after the first knockdown...bad camera angle, but the rest of the fight was devastating from Martinez....he's an absolute powerhouse, but doesn't look too cultured as a boxer. But, as I've said about Khan, Froch, and Dunne, I'd be more comfortable if their guards were higher. Here, the high guard might have given him more time to get in the fight, but the power was exceptional.
