This topic should be threaded to the other one on the very same topic.......topics merged lets say. But yeah I agree with Master this isn't a good thing. What a crock of shit this is. I didn't really like ODLH before, now I dislike him even more. He is a diving washed up gadzillionaire who wants everyone to waste time and money watching his crappy ass fights. He isn't relevant to boxing as a fighter anymore so I guess this will keep him in the game for a long time. I am not re-subscribing for sure now...when it runs out I am through.
On that same token, is there a European boxing magazine that i could subscribe to (in English, that isn't owned by ODLH)... it seems all the fighters I am really interested in always are from over there anyway?
Oscar has been pretty good as far as keeping up a good public image for boxing, and he is the golden boy so this may turn to gold as well.
He is good at fooling the public, which is one thing..... Which is fine, but running a magazine for dedicated and knowledgable boxing enthusiasts is another.
I think it will be a positive thing! With him controlling boxing compleatly eventually! Hopefully Oscar will emphasise the importance of the Ring title. Maybe the first step in returning to the days of one belt in each division? I hope so!
You shouldn't feel petty and your right for having your reservations about how the magazine will be treated by him. I think that the more people distrust this, the more they will keep an eye on what happens with it. The problem will come a year or more from now, when they do pick a DLH promoted fighter to crack the top three. People will be outraged and many postings will follow saying how he has manipulated the rankings. I just hope the body of work that is done on the magazine is enough to satisfy those who chose to look deeper into it's contents.Quote:

or 100,000,000 :o may be an exageration but 10 mil isnt much at all so that dont sound right for a magazine like The Ring.Quote:

I agree. 10 million isn't much at all for a magazine that already has a fan base and regular issues that cost around 9 USD a pop.
Why this takeover was never deemed a conflict of interest i'll never know ???Quote:

But buying Ring Magazine? He's a promoter, for heaven's sake. And until recently, Ring Magazine was recognized as THE authority on boxer rankings. Whether you agreed or not, there was Ring Magazine, a supposedly impartial authority on boxing. We all bitched and moaned if our favorite fighters were not high enough on the lists, but we read them just the same.
And now the authority is owned by a boxing promoter. Anyone that doesn't at least raise an eyebrow at this event is clueless, IMO. Rankings and promoters mix about as well as oil and water.
Capitalism is one thing... (you got the money, you can buy all the magazines you want).... but keep ranking bodies separate from any self-serving interests. Otherwise, people will lose respect for all ranking mechanisms. And boxing without rankings will just wither and go away.
