I totally agree this is what i said earlier i don't think Peter is monster hitter he is made out to be either he hasn't stopped anyone worth mentioning.Quote:

The short answer is yes. Peter is overrated, but he is improving with each battle to earn the distinction. The performance against McCline isn't exactly evidence of that. McCline came out and was anything but stereotypical McCline. He worked hard and caught Peter with good shots. Don't blame Peter because McCline decided to do what he hardly ever does when he fights. Add to that that McCline might be on the juice (just because you pass a UA right before the fight doesn't mean you weren't juicing all through training camp). Those punches would have hurt any HW. But Peter outlasted them and recuperated very well and dominated the rest of the fight with allegedly broken hands.
If nothing else he has a championship chin.
peter is a sad excuse for a heavy weight champ period
yea we can pretty much say that about 99% of themQuote:

Sure he's over rated right now...but isnt virtually every heavy on the up at the moment? He is entitled to an off night, since McCline Knocked him and Klitschko couldn i rate it an off night.
I said before this fight that he was one convincing fight away from gaining me as a fan. He still hasn't gained me as afn but he did gainn some respect from me by getting up (three times!) and winning.
It's not that Wladimir COULDN'T KO Sam Peter it's just he didn't...the way he wobbled him in the 12th makes me think a rematch with Sam Peter would be a short affair.
....also the way Wladimir's jab worked against Brewster means more KO's will come to him as he'll tire out fighters and find holes in their defense and the right cross and left hook will be more effective. There's no one out there Wladimir can't KO and there's no one out there that Wlad can't decision either....it's just a matter of doing it in the ring he has all the skills needed to be a dominant force and he's using them more effectively now that he's been with Manny for a few years.
Sam Peter is a tough fighter I just always thought his punches were wide and slow....he doesn't have a straight right cross, his left hook is looping and not a quick snapping left hook like Tyson's or Frazier's and his defense is horrible. He's a tough guy has loads of heart but I think he has a lot to improve on.
He did something that everyone expects from a champion, that's to get up and be able to win....but he really never should have been down so he was almost the victim of a bad night.
Sam Peter will bounce back and I think he can really improve but he's going to have to work really hard and these changes won't come over night
I just watched Wlad vs Peter again and the first two knockdowns didn't really look like knockdowns to me and except for the rounds Peter floored Wlad in i think Wlad won every single round except the 5th and the 10th Peter was dominated and that was sweet left hook that wobbled Peter in the 12th.Quote:

He's a lot more comfortable in the ring and it's a scary thing
Sam Peter is good enough to be A Title holder but he can't unify (as if that would ever happen in today's heavyweight division).
There really are very few easy fights out there for Sam Peter....I would like to see how he'd do vs Andrew Golota....would he KO Golota early a la Lewis, Tyson, and Brewster or would he allow Golota to get comfortable and box Sam Peter. Golota is no slouch but there is a certain way to beat him it's tested and proven true every time.

If Peter can't get to Golota early then Peter is going to be in trouble Golota has very good jab and combinations and would beat Peter imo if he can't get Golota early.
I'm not totally sold on Peter. He's showed a lot of improvement in his last 2 fights, but IMO Toney brought him to school in their first fight.
I was just browsing through boxingrec and I was looking at Thompson record...I'm baffled that he is completely unknown and basically untalked about. He must only pay WBO fees, cuz he's the #1 for that belt but not rated for the others. The only thing I can figure is that's he a good, big southpaw and nobody wants to face that combo, and from his record, it looks like he was kinda a club fighter for a long time. He's put together some good wins. I would like to see this guy get good fight. I mean, shouldn't he be getting a shot at Ibragamov soon? That's gotta be his mandatory now.Quote:
