Not really. To me, Mora is like the son you have who you think will grow up to be a lawyer but turns out to be a drug dealer. He is just a huge disappointment to me. After he won the Contender I expected him to do big things and yet he has down next to nothing. I mean who has a 7 year boxing career and hasn't even been in a scheduled 12 rounder? And he isn't even moving up competition wise, he's pretty close to moving backwards. I know that he was suppose to fight Ouma but then the card fell apart, but are you telling me that Ayala was the highest level of competition you could find on short notice? It just seems like he is too comfortable beating up on low level fighters, while calling out big names. Let me know when he is ready to swim in the big boy side of the pool, then he can get some respect. For now, it seems he is content to stay in the 4 feet deep water with one of those inflatable turtles you put around your waist.
Well to defend I'd say he was preparing for someone Ouma who is a completely different style of anyone else you could face and Ayala isnt even close to that so Mora probably had to adjust a lot.
When Ouma and Mora face each other all the questions will be answered good or bad
The draw with Ayala has already answered all questions
Like Pavlik's fight with Zertuche answered all the questions?

I think Mora has a lot more questions around him than Pavlik did going into the Zertuche fight. I agree with you on every thing you say about Pavlik. Cuz I feel the same way. But your on your own with Mora. I see nothing in him. Without the contender. He's a journeyman.

Yes! When all else fails stop 'em in eight! ;D
Seriously though...the Taylor fight answered a lot of questions...but the Miranda fight answered more for me.
He proved that he could get around a good jab against Taylor.
He proved that he could take power & match it power for power against Miranda.
To go even farther back...he proved that he could work through experience when he stopped McKart.
While many discount McKart...he is if nothing else a pit stop for talent. McKart has been there & seen pretty much everything with some of the most experienced fighters out there...in doing so you gain a bit from McKart due to the fact that he does have & can fend off some serious abilities.
While that might sound like a goofy statement...look at it like this...McKart went the distance & toe to toe with Phillips, Wright, Bunema, & Simms...none of which gave him the issues nor had the devastating results that Kelly did.
While McKart is/was a title holder...he wasn't for long...but he was game opposition that had little to no answers for Pavlik & lasted only 5 or 6 rounds. That says something for Pavlik.

But at the same time if Mora beats McKart then people will say McKart was an over the hill bum. And if he beats Ouma then he beat up an undersized champion.
Mora is going to step it up so more questions are gonna be answered. One thing is for sure, Mora won that fight, and he came on late he didn't quit or wilt under the pressure like some "next great champs" do when it gets rough.
The Ouma fights next and Mora has to be better that night or he isn't going to get that far.
In all seriousness there's a prospect named Sechew Powell who looked worse against Brewer and look where he is now. Don't pass judgement on a fighter off of one performance, thats why I said Mora and Zertuche. He won but people could only point out what he did wrong in that fight and look where he is now. That was the reason behind that
Re: Sergio Mora: "I Can Beat Kelly Pavlik"
I think that was also Jermaine Taylor's strategy. How did that pan out for Taylor. Not to Fukn good. Mora lost the second fight to Manfredo I don't care what the cards say, I think he lost. But challenging Kelly Pavlik. Here is a video of how that fight would end up.

He's got a decent defense, basically blocking alot of punches and all the reach helps him avoid punches also, but it will catch up to him sooner or later.
Agreed...but I still hate HATE hate his defense.
I think that it will be his downfall & I worry about it as much as I do him stickin' out his chin...but the chin thing he can correct pretty easily...as far as his defense goes...you can't teach an old doggy new tricks.
He's been set in his ways for so long...I don't see how he can change that this late in the game.
Pavlik has pretty much no defense. He uses almost an European style. He's too straight up and keeps his chin up too much too. But its worked for him so far, and made him world champion, so I can't complain too much. His offense is really his defense, but he keeps his hands up most the time, I'll give him that.

McKart was a good fighter, but old when Pavlik fought him. My trainer's cousin was the first man to ever beat McKart in the pros, dropped him a couple times too. After that loss, McKart wouldn't lose again for years until he met Winky Wright.

Mora hasn't even figured out a way to beat Elvin Ayala yet.....

Re: Sergio Mora: "I Can Beat Kelly Pavlik"
I look at Mora and see a mid level fighter. Possible fringe contender at best.
From what I see from him, he is average in most of the basic fundamentals.
Speed: Average
Defence: Average
Footwork: Average
Offence: Average
Power: Below Average
I just do not see anything special in him that could elevate him to a real championship. He might get lucky and win a belt of some sort, but that will take some very careful opponent selecting. To become a champion, a fighter has to have a defining ability to get him there. If someone can find one with Mora, please enlighten me.
