Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
I'm deffo leaning towards Mosley on this one on points or stoppage from say round 9 ish onwards, I think he is just a class above Cotto and has far more tools in his box to do the job than Cotto has to to trouble Mosley.... :badass:

Agreed. But I think once we hit the 3rd or 4th round...Cotto will be busted up...I sure hope that it's the other way around though.
Cotto can offer the division a whole lot more than Mosley...all I really want Mosley for is a Mayweather bout. ;D
Cotto busted up by the third or fourth?! My man wACK,with all due respect, are you crazy?! When was the last time SSm busted anyone up?! It dam sure as hell won't be Miguel. Shane struggled v Vernon's pressure,I'm hoping Cotto's pressure is even greater and will hurt Shane even more. Man i cannot,CANNOT wait for this fight.

When I say busted up...I mean just that...busted up...not knocked out.
Mosley busted up & TKO'd Vargas twice, went toe to toe with Collazo & busted him up, & did the same with Estrada & Cruz...all that has been since the Vernon battles.

Estrada? That wasn't a great performance.Vargas?Shot as hell.Collazo,he's no Cotto and he was doing well for the first 4 rounds until he broke his hand. I see Shane hurting Cotto early, but Cotto coming back strong. Where's your faith in Cotto man?!
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
I think the hesitation most people feel about calling this one comes from having faith in both fighters. They've both proven what they can do in the ring, so it all boils down to which one wants it the most. Cotto has the tenacity to go after SSM like a pit bull in heat, and Shane has the skills, experience, and speed to frustrate Cotto.
Heart goes with Cotto stopping Shane late, but I have to pick SSM by UD. I don't think Shane's old just yet.
Didn't we just have this age argument about Calzaghe? ;D
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
Speed almost always conquers power. In this case Shane is faster and just, if not more, stronger. Cotto's biggest advantage is his youth. But compare their careers: Cotto has actually been hurt more and been involved in more wars than Shane has. So i just don't see Shane gassing out. That leaves the intangibles: skill, athleticism, experience, and chin. Shane has the advantage in all those areas. So unless Shane grows old in this fight...i don't see him loosing. Shane's speed and angles, combined with Cotto's iffy chin, will give him the advantage in a war. But Shane also has the foot and hand speed to have the advantage if it gets tactical at points. Both fighters have great hearts so it should be an exciting fight!

In my opinion: speed conquers power when the person who has the speed boxes and moves around the ring. Sugar Shane will not do this. First, because he doesn't run. Second, because Cotto is excellent at cutting off the ring. You will see how Mosley tries to use his jab alot early in this fight trying to set up the straight right hand and left hook. Now with that said, Cotto will prevent it by using his jab first and getting inside before Mosley gets time to set up a shot. This leads to alot of inside work from the hands of Cotto. Cotto will hold when needed and will frustrate Mosley by the middle rounds.
That jab stops and slows down Mosley. It also frustrates him. Mosley never comes into fights with a "plan B". When a fighter frustrates him (Wright - Forrest) He loses alot in him. ****Watch all 4 of his losses, including his 2nd fight to Oscar which I honestly think he lost***** He shows alot of frustration when being beat to the jab.
Cotto is highly underated. The guy can box if needed to. He's just not that come forward 24/7 type of guy. He also is alot faster than many think. That is why I think the speed of his jab will frustrate Mosley alot in this fight.
I'm not saying Cotto has a Quartey type jab, all I'm saying is that he will use it enough to help him get inside of Mosley and slow him down a bit and frustrate him a little. You might have a good point and speed should conquer power, but I think you've also forgotten that a simple jab......stops speed!
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
So there. I placed my vote.
Cotto TKO and to be more precise round 11 the stoppage will be very similar to the Zab stoppage.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
Eli, Cotto's style is nothing like Forrest and Wright. Those two fighters had excellent defenses and length to give Mosley fits. Cotto's defense is far from excellent and his jab, while not bad, isn't nearly the weapon you make it out to be. Don't get me wrong...Cotto is a great fighter...but ultimately he is one dimensional. He comes forward with pressure and breaks his opponents down by going to the body. Styles make fights...and Cotto's style is perfect for Shane. I think the more likely outcome is that Cotto will get frustrated...and he will smash Shane in the balls ;) Zab landed plenty on Cotto...so what do you think a fighter with a killer instinct like Shane will do. This fight will be a war while it lasts...but as i said before...unless Shane shows his age...i see him having too much for the youngster.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
Per Boxrec, Benjy Esteves will be the referee for Cotto-Mosley.
Smoger is listed as the ref for the Casamayor fight.

Eli good point about Molsey's demons....
But like Zhubin has stated, Forrest & Winky are different fighters all together (Even Oscar was) compared to Cotto.
Plus 2/3rds of the fights you mention were at 154 with Mosley boxing badly and/ or was fighting a guy who was too big for him and/ or had a far superior defence.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
Apparantly Cotto looked the business in the open training sessions, all combos & speed!!!
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
Eli,I agree with what you're saying. It was not just the size of Forrest and WInky but it was the fact that they did not allow Shane to control the tempo of the fight, they controlled it and I see Cotto doing that too. Cotto has the jab to control Shane speed,he needs to use it even more than he did v Zab. I see Cotto controlling the pace, jabbing, combinations and winning.
Cotto is different to Winky/Oscar/Forrest but they are alot different to each other too!
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
Wacko...once Cotto wins this (I believe that much that he will), you can't lose faith in him again. He's F****** superb. I know Shane is a different animal to Zab and his previous fights, but Cotto is always capable of riding a storm. Shane won't be able to deal with the constant pressure, and I think Cotto will be the first to stop him in around 9.
Change is in the air my friend.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds Cotto vs Mosley
I'm really starting to look forward to this one now. Before last weekend I really couldn't think about much beyond Calzaghe v Kessler in boxing terms, but now I can't wait for some late night action on Saturday night.
I still prefer what I've seen of Cotto to what I've seen of Mosley, but as always I just want to be entertained with some quality boxing.
