Re: Who wins Mijares-Munoz?
I think this is a very close fight!
Munoz has only lost to Castillo (who was at or near his best both times) & the second fight could have easily been a victory for Munoz.
Munoz is a whole different kettle of fish compared to Arce. It won't be an easy fight but IMO its a 50/50.
For me victories over Navarro, Arce & Kawashima don't really give much of an egde to Mijares

Gotta go for my man Mijares.
Stylish, fast, strong, hungry.

The 115 lb. unification clash between WBC titlist Cristian Mijares (34-3-2, 14 KO) of Mexico and two-time WBA titlist Alexander Munoz (32-2, 27 KO), rated #1 and #3 in the most recent Boxing ratings, is a great fight on its own.
That it comes at a moment when the division’s center of gravity has moved firmly from Asia to the Americas, and at a moment when bankable action fighters Jorge Arce and Vic Darchinyan stand on the cusp of the title scene again, generates grand ramifications. And no, WBO titlist Fernando Montiel (36-2-1, 27 KO) is not forgotten; he, in fact, is the best possible opponent for the winner of Mijares-Munoz. It’s nice to know that such fights can be talked about realistically.
Too often, the smallest divisions are wrought with parity by way of regional stars with no incentive to travel. Right now, the regions are lined up, and so are the key players. That means the incentive for big fights lines up with it and a weight class long observed by the hardcore masses as one of Boxing’s best can prove it. Through the first four months of this year, the results say they already are doing just that.
Re: Mijarez-Munoz Poll & Pre-fight Report Card
I voted Mijares UD.
He's a great little fighter, lovely style, great athleticism.
Munoz would be pretty hard to stop, but I'm confident Mijares can out point him.
Re: Mijarez-Munoz Poll & Pre-fight Report Card
I'm backing Munoz by UD.
Mijares struggled enough with Navarro & got hit cleanly. If Munoz hits him like that its over!
Plus Kawashima in the 1st fight gave Mijares hell, putting him down hard.
Munoz is the best opponent Mijares has faced IMO & this fight has all the potential to be a classic!

One worry I have about my man Mijares is that physically he is still immature.

I know Mick thinks this will be an easy victory for Mijares but I have no idea what he is basing that on. Munoz is without a doubt the best fighter Mijares will have faced & possibly the biggest puncher!
My only worry for Munoz is the weight. I hope he hasn't had any difficulty making the 115 pound limit because he's going to need every last bit of strength down the stretch as Mijares tends to come on strong in the later rounds. He pulled it out with a late surge against Kawashima the 1st time & did it again vs Navarro.

I don'tthink this fight will be easy either way. I feel even if Munoz is weight drained or weakened, his style will still demand that Mijares be on guard

Mijares has to box a smart fight, against Navarro I think it was a case of Him making it harder than it should have been. But if he does that against Munoz he'll be poshing his luck.
Navarro showed Mijares can be hit & Kawashima showed he can be hurt. Munoz is a level above both guys IMO
Re: Mijarez-Munoz Poll & Pre-fight Report Card
By looking at Munoz's resume, if he wins, it would be by KO.
Re: Mijarez-Munoz Poll & Pre-fight Report Card
I'm going with Mijares by UD.
