Re: I percieve a big future problem with rep
Bilbo at first you really had plans for the system right ?The whole elites band together and keep the newbies in check as a Vassel Leader to build yours up right.?
I agree though,I liked the old system better but it is not coming back. One at a time felt more valuable and well earned...may sound cornball but it did....Regardless of the chickenshit Sc bombers. The whole spread it around thing sort of gets me as well.It just seems at times its flying around just to meet a quota count. If I have not earned your respect or rep for a thought or point just keep it.It can really be a #'s game and a mindbender if you over think it.It can become a watered down swap-meet barder system at times but At the end of the day I have no complaints.Reps are sent for whatever reason and we have full control of the response we choose ...Back to boxing!;D

Honestly, whether it's the rep system or cool/sad click system, it shouldn't matter, it's all just for fun, and it shouldn't be taken so seriously.
If people are just going to complain about it, then just take it all away, period, and then everyone is equal, and we can do what is really important, and that's talk about boxing, and other interesting subjects. ;)
If you take it away, discussions won't stop, friendships being formed won't stop, but the complaining will stop. ;D
Trust me if Saddo takes it away altogether my complaining will have only just gotten started! :p
But don't worry, in a few months you'll see I was right when those at the top have reputations in the hundreds of thousands and our beloved Wacko no longer even makes the reputation board at all
When every single member of Saddo's is a Hall of Famer with a punch power over 1000.
Then you'll say 'We should have listened to Bilbo, that little hobbit guy, he knew. He knew this would happen!'
And you'll turn to me and say 'Oh Bilbo, Oh we wish we had listened to you'.
And I will not reply but just put a disinterested smilie up like this one :shrug03: and act all indifferent, but inside I will be grinning a big knowing grin of smug satisfaction ^-^

Glad you understand where I'm coming from. At the end of the day I do agree with Diane that it's not really a big deal. But if you going to have a fun little system then it may as will be fair and fun for everyone...right?;)
Actually you feel exactly how I do about it. You have to spread your rep around, and the ever increasing punch powers just kind of devalues a rep point to meaning virtually nothing. This will only get worse as well.
I wish we could go back to the old coolclicks. I liked giving the old :coolclick: sign and if someone was really bad the occasional but very satisfying :sadclick: sign as well.

I'm sure you'll remember before we had the new board Wacko had over 3000 coolclicks, he was over 1000 more ahead of anybody else.
It took him 4 years of being a 100% devoted member to this site and countless rbr's to earn that number.
Under our old coolclick system he could have had a year off and come back and STILL had more coolclicks than anybody else. A coolclick score was harder to earn and thus reflected more fairly on the status of someone like Wacko.
Now if you sort members by reputation in just a single month he's already been dumped to 4th place
By the end of April I doubt he will even be on the top 30 page. If he hasn't returned by the end of the summer he will barely make the top 100
I personally think that sucks. It took me over two years to earn just over 2000 coolcliks. I've more than doubled that score in a month on the new system, and remember that with the constant inflation every month from now this process will accelerate faster and faster!
Furthermore I miss the anonymous sad clicks. I've only ever had one bad rep since we started this new system, from Violent D for saying his ICQ Flower made him look gay.
I just don't think the new system is very fun any more :(
I used to prefer patiently building collecting my coolclicks one at a time, cursing when someone anonymously gave me a sadclick and wondering who it was and why :D
A person's reputation was patiently built over a long time, slowly, bit by bit.
I mean no disrespect to Clubber at all when I say this but I don't think I even knew you before a couple of months ago and already you have a reputation of 1000 and within a couple of months at that rate will overtake our all time most esteemed member Wacko in reputation.
That's just not right imo.
I personally vote we go back to the old coolclick system.
Anybody with me?
I just made it 2 times for you

By the way Diane do you not feel the disparity is unfair when you think about it? I mean why shoul I have a punch power of 60 versus somebody else's 10?
I don't really like the grading of members in that some have a more important value than others. I'm certainly not against a reputation, a hard earned rep based on how others see you and your posts but giving extra power to people with a higher rep is a bit undemocratic imo.
If there was no punch power stats and everyone's opinion and rep and hence punch power/ cool click power was the same the whole system seems more fair and inclusive.
Nobody is treated differently, everyone's opinion is the same. So if a little newbie likes one of my postings and reps me for it it is just as important as if CutMeMick repped me. I prefer that, I like that.
Today for example I got a 40 rep from Boxing Gorilla and a 2 rep from 2GoodForU. I was like ugh to the 2 rep but it shouldn't be that way, because both Gorilla and toogood4u are equal in my eyes and in the eyes of God.
I think I'm getting a bit too deep and into this now but you can see where my sentiments come from.
Re: I percieve a big future problem with rep
Bilbo I just dont see what is unfair about it.You use wacko as an example but dont forget He has been inactive since the switch and for about a month before on and off.no doubt that if he was doing the RBR's and on point daily his numbers would have sense doubled if not tripled.I miss the dude and #'s dont do him justice...he's beyond them as are many lifers and long term vets. Its really not a lifes concern,Hey right now Andy Lee Is starting...What a facial mutt :o

lol I know its not a big deal and its not going to affect my life either way.
Just thought it was a point worth raising.
Wacko slaved over this site for 4 years and had a reputation beyond compare.
He leaves for a couple months and he's now being overtaken and will soon be an also ran.
Not a big deal ulitmately but still a bit sad I think.
Re: I percieve a big future problem with rep
The good thing about the CC system is that you get one more point for each thing that another finds commendable in your post. Its a gradual accumulation of respect. Likewise the SC was a gradual accumulation of disrespect. It definitely reflected pretty much "time spent" as it were.
My main gripe is this "share the love" business. Ive been on here like I used to be over the last number of days and posting and giving out rep to posts I find interesting. And STILL im told I must spread the love before giving rep. to members I wanted to give rep to days ago. Its pissing me off! I never had this hassle with the CC system. If anyone things that ive turned from being CC mad to just being stingy with the rep.....well, it just isnt the case. Darn annoying!!

Well done for speaking up Miles! Let's try and get the old system back,
I miss my coolclicks !;D
Re: I percieve a big future problem with rep
You've made some good points in this thread. Im hardly a hippy dippy communist but I do think the new system has its flaws. I can get rep from 20 newbies or just a couple of long time members and yet both will affect my power punch (which is weak considering how long ive been here and how many CC's I once had) in the same way. Getting respect is better in the CC way of getting "one more on the notch" IMO.
The current system may well lead to a select few dominating and controlling with their power punch and with many others having a much weaker influence. Perhaps a metaphor for the way things are in the world itself. ;D

Yeah this is exactly it Miles. A newbie who has been extrememely active in the past month alone can build a reputation almost that of a veteran member who built a nice coolclick reputation over several years.
As I keep saying Wacko is already demoted to 5th on the rep board.
Mick who is number 1 and deservedly so imo based on years of service to the site including countless ringside reports could drop probably to 5th or 6th in just a single month if he say didn't log in at all in April
It's just a stupid system, I completely hate it because its not fair imo.
It doesn't reward a member by allowing him to gradually gain the respect of his fellow members over time, it just encourages rep trading with other higher repped members, through this spreading the love feature.
I don't really like it at all to be honest. The punch power feature especially I don't think is well implemented and goes against the ethos of the board. This is a friendly board where everybody is equal, why then do we have a grading system where some users are better than others?
That's the sort of shit you'd expect to see on Dogshite boxing or EastSide
Re: I percieve a big future problem with rep
Exactly. This site is what it is because of the way it has evolved and the CC/SC system was part of that. I suppose I will always be fond of the old way because thats what I always knew. It did its job though and I didnt see too much wrong with it.
The anonymous sad clicks were irritating but you cant get too bothered about that. No anonymity with this system though.
Re: I percieve a big future problem with rep
I agree, bring back the coolclicks. If you are gonna HAVE a system what better checks and balances than a 1 at a time Click for the good or the bad. everything stays in proportion.
Clicks were a badge of honor that stood for hard work and recognition of effort put into this place.
I was 917/222 before the change and almost had 5000 posts 1000 CC and 5000 posts is elite company and a gold standard of longevity and dedication here, now it means jackshit
Kind of like when you get Madden or MLB Baseball for ps3, sure you can create your own guy and give him 99's in every attribute so that he hits 95 home runs and has 300 RBI'S and bats 500. or runs for 3500 rushing yards or throws for 100 touchdowns.. Its fun at 1st but then it gets old and excessive after a while..
Bring back the clicks;)

Even if we choose to limit the amount or rep we give per punch the problem is still there and will get bigger and bigger over time.
At the current rate by Christmas you and me will have punch power of AT LEAST 1000 per hit!
That would mean if we gave a full power hit, a brand new member could get full rep from say you, me, Gamo and Gorilla and ALREADY have a bigger reputation than Wacko! :o
The system sucks imo:mad:
He could make it so that you're not allowed to recieve but so much rep at once until your rep count or punch power reaches a certain number. (That way a newbie couldn't come on here and get repped by a powerful poster like Mick and already have a high punch power. Only a poster like Wacko who deserved it could get it.)
That makes sense...
So if I can't click them that means that can't earn any punching power and only those with a small number can Rep. thus leaving me to Rep. members like Wacko, Bilbo, BG etc. etc.
So if I Rep. them their power will increase but not rapidly which means we would all somewhat be the same and.......
(I have know fucken idea, what I just typed  )
In other words, a new member you might could only give 10 reps, but if he had a certain rep count, it might extend to 20, and so on.......
..... What am I talkin' about now? :dontknow:
