Cotto hurt Shane, he didn't wobble him or knock him down but he made him wince...he did more damage to Shane than a prime De la Hoya ever did.
Cintron had no defense and didn't box effectively. If Cintron could use a jab and box then we'd be talking Cotto-Cintron. Paul Williams has no defense either and used his punch output to beat Margarito.
Cotto is definently going to have to fight his ass off to beat Margarito...only thing is I see him actually doing it
I would have to agree wiht that. But Cotto seems to get better every fight. With each fight he shows you something new or revised. He is evolving into a great fighter.

I can respect and maybe even concede your opinion, to tell you the truth I do see Cotto a winner here, but I hate how eveyone seems to think he's just gonna walk all over Marg. like he was Gomez or something. I'm getting too nationalistic I think. Again your reasons are justified on the fight, but still doesnt explain why you're a dick
Agree with the frustration about Margarito being Overlooked by people, then again what is new through his career ?I'm Picking Margarito to pull it off.
May not be my scrap and excuse me putting my chin in it But Lyles not a Dick bro,Just a bit thick in spots and dedicated in his opinions and Beliefs :banghead:......You oviously have not Met 'Frozensolid';D

That was his reply to something I said about MArgo. never seeing MArgo cut. Granted, he got cut he was right. But there was no reason for that response...just being a dick. but he knows his boxing i will give him that i respect the opinions

Dont take it to heart OnixAA.That is nothing, sarcasm and you will see tons of it Lol. Just sharp jabbing in a debate......a solid chin will take you far;D
Re: The more I think about Cotto-Margarito the more I see a mismatch
Sorry if I was a little lacking in the finesse with my opinion on Margarito getting cut. You're going to have to get used to me being frank with you because I don't want (and other forum members don't want) me to ramble on and on just to get to a point where I could tell you what I thought.
As for Margarito being cut, he lost a fight to Daniel Santos because he was cut, granted that was a headbutt HOWEVER fighters who get cut once usually end up getting cut again and it could be by a headbutt or a punch or whatever. As you could see in his last fight he got cut too. It's nothing that has bothered him but he does get cut up every now and then
Re: The more I think about Cotto-Margarito the more I see a mismatch
I Would Go With Cotto To Win This One As I Think The Only Man To Give Cotto Real Trouble Would Be F.mayweather Jr Just Hope That Fight Happens, I Like Everything About Cotto But He Does Have A Few Weakness But No One Is Perfect I Wouldnt Say This Fight With Margarito Is A Mismatch But I See Where Your Coming From
Re: The more I think about Cotto-Margarito the more I see a mismatch
I don't know , but each time that i see , some people forgot or didn't know how was the beginning of Cottos career , is not the first time that Cotto face with an opponent like Margarito as hard puncher , taller , aggressive , with good stamina , good upper cut and etc......
Because if we remember when Cotto fought with Cesar Bazan a good and taller Mexican boxer , Sosa another taller , hard puncher and faster boxer , Maussa another taller , hard puncher with undefeated record and Kelson Pinto another taller , hard puncher with undefeated record , in my opinion i could comparing to Margarito to all of this boxers that had and have the same and some features of boxing like him and those fights was not so difficult for Cotto , though if we remember Cotto right nowis a boxer with more experience , with more defensive , more strong , more speed , more boxing , more smart, more disciplined and more mature into the ring , so these all features that i mentioned here is the features that put Cotto wins clearly this fight.....
That is my opinion...........

...and as slow as a snail. Not that Cotto is speedy gonzalez but he's at least faster than Cotto. I see Cotto winning this one.

It's the smaller guys that have rocked and knocked down Cotto before. He was lucky that the fight was not stopped in a few ocassions before, specially against that Colombian journeyman and others.
Cotto looked great against Gomez. I saw him a bit faster, sharper, accurate, etc. But then again, I would like to see all that against a more tested fighter out there, bigger name.

Hey Chino , i dont know what you mean with SMALLER guy , but if you refering about Ricardo Torres , he had a record of 28 wins and 26 KO and undefeated when fought with Cotto and im telling you man that guy was good and is good , we cant put him out of class , Cotto doesnt the only good boxer that got down by a shot , that happened to Tito in numerous time and that doesnt mean that you should have doubts in what Cotto can do at this time.......
Re: The more I think about Cotto-Margarito the more I see a mismatch
Good point Macho. Trinidad did have some flash knock downs but what happened with Torres vs Cotto was a little bit more than that. The ref could step in any moment to stop Cotto from getting more punishment but somehow didn't.
Cotto seems more complete than Margarito. Can't see Margarito achiving much if he fights on the outside. His fight is normally in the inside.
Re: The more I think about Cotto-Margarito the more I see a mismatch
When Cotto got hurt he was trying too hard to impress the fans or go for the KO.
Since the Judah fight Cotto has fought in a smart strategic manner .....he's cold and calculating and dangerous. Margarito is the one who comes in guns blazing without regard to his own defense.....well until Miguel goes upside his head a couple times ;D
When Cotto boxes he's even more effective with his power punches...I see Margarito swinging for the fences from the start and Miguel taking advantage of his wildness and the fact that Tony willingly gives up his height and reach advantages

I agree - the wild Cotto against Torres was pretty much all over the place. But against Judah, and especially Mosely, he was sharp, focused, and just plain brutal. I wouldn't underestimate Margarito - he's one tough sob - but I think Cotto on his game picks him apart.
Re: The more I think about Cotto-Margarito the more I see a mismatch
Oh I agree with you bcollins, Cotto can't take Margarito's power for granted he has to be precise and strategic in his approach but I think Margarito's wildness will be his undoing.
The great thing is if either Cotto or Margarito gets hit hard their response is not to go on the defensive but rather to deliver a power punch of their own in return....this could be a very brutal fight but I also don't want to over sell this fight because odds are that both fighters will try to box at some point in the fight we just don't know how much

I agree Chino , you have reason , if Margarito use his reach probably he achieving more and could stop Cotto by his little power , but is slow , doesn't have technicals in boxing and even footwork , he just going forward and forward , that is a problem against Cotto.......
About Torres , i differ of you , because when Cotto was in bad condition , he kept in movement and throwing punches , that's why the Ref. couldn't stop that fight , but obviously we have to admit that Cotto have a real damn big heart Chino , because he could assimilate all that shots that received , if Torres didn't push him , Cotto had still fighting in bad condition until the end of round , have strong legs too man......
But that is good , that let you know how he can assimilate , is bad when you rooting a boxer that you even know how he can assimilate and be in determination to focus and finish his nightmare......LOLOL;D
Re: The more I think about Cotto-Margarito the more I see a mismatch
i think margarito is not given the chance here. i think cintron punches harder than cotto and cotto has been hit by relatively weaker punchers before and have gone down. i give both 50/50 chance.
