Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
Another low pressure system that formed off of the Cape Verde Islands is now turning into a tropical cyclone as it works its way west-northwest across the Atlantic, approximately 1300 kms from the Lesser Antilles and is expected to become a depression later today.
So far the season had produced:
- Tropical Storm Arthur which dissapated over the mountainous regions of Mexico
- Hurricane Bertha which grew to Cat. 3 before slowing in the cooler waters of the mid Atlantic, where it still slowly moves as a now Tropical Storm. It hasn't posed any threats to land, but is churning up some surf for Burmuda.
So this next low as shown in the map below is possibly the seasons next threat as will become more evident in the days that follow.
When you click on the map, by clicking the red circle in the bottom right in will give you more info as it progresses, with updates.

Here is a wide Atlantic satellite loop that will show it's progression. As well Bertha can be seen still meanering in the mid Atlantic.

*edit, this system ended up being Hurricane Dolly

Yep, I've been following it and it looks like it may even heat up to hurricane status by landfall...although I doubt anything too major. I have been neglecting this posting, not following Dolly as closely on here I was planning to, but have been following the births and growths of these systems.
Bit close to home this one for you, eh, Spicoli? But not much to worry about me thinks...just too close to shore to build into much I doubt. Might make for a nice surf tho? :headscratch:

Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
My last prediction of a forming potential storm was on the mark, as I watched a formation off the Cape Verde Islands grow, and slowly move across the Atlantic, weakening, strengthening, to eventually become Hurricane Dolly striking Southwest Texas - Northeast Mexico.
Here is string of storms again bred off the Cape Verde islands moving their way across the Atlantic. The one in red I will be watching more closely as it so far has a westerly projection, keeping it over warmer waters with favorable conditions for growth. Behind it 2 other systems slightly weaker. The stronger the first formation gets, the chances are it saps the energy from the ocean for potential and dangerous growth of the others, but it is in the early stages so this is a first look at them. Much can change as predicting is tricky with so many variables, but it is worth an early look...

This one is coming like a straight right and not the left uppercut it appeared to be at first.7 days later and Fay is gaining & doing damage trudging inbound.Hour by Hour here :boat:..........;D ready to roll
Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
As Tropical Storm Fay has shown, it doesn't take a monster hurricane to cause damage, pose a threat to life, and tally up economic woes as it meanders, causing flooding and fear...as it has making a record 4 landfalls in Florida.
But when monster major hurricanes are born, they are a thing to behold, and a thing to fear. With that in mind, and in the wake of Fay...meet hurricane Gustav.
AccuWeather.com - Weather Blogs - Weather News
It quickly formed in the warm waters of the Atlantic, in the Eastern Carribean approaching Haiti, as conditions at this time seem favorable for it to continue to grow and stengthen. Time and its interaction with land will tell the tale.
It began as a simple low pressure off the Cape Verde Islands of Africa, but met with conditions to not only survive the trip, but to now evolve to what it is, and what it will become. This one for sure is one to watch for all Gulf Coast residents. It has danger written all over it and the potential to turn into a category 3 or higher.

Gustov is the correct spelling.
Bobby Jindal is doing a good job so far, already ahead of the curve.

Yea, apparantly all the scientists and meteorologists, National Hurricane Center and media got it wrong, spelling it Gustav. Thanks for sorting that out Lile. :)

Re: Hurricane Season is Upon Us
Local media in fool hysteria mode.I am a realist and understand full well the situation but locally way too much is uncertain, speculation and guess work right now.Come late Friday night,Sat. afternoon,we will have a clearer picture.Today was absolute chaos and just finding time to "Check" one self was near impossible. All of the local shelters and branches of SPCA have been evacuated and judging by the dealings with clientèle today, there frankly is just a bit of Panic taking over sound reasoning and an elevated sense of awareness. We had sooooo many request for Ace ,VX history's and misc. items ,I stopped counting at noon. You really have to bite your tounge when dealing with some,One of our receptionist was pretty freaked already, and every ten minutes here comes another wide eyed client who just watched the news and is declaring "It'll be a cat 5,direct hit and were doomed" (Word for word,I kid u not).Much is being tied together in conjunction with The anniversary of Katrina Tomorrow. We have ceased all boarding of animals, contacted our go to location and made arrangements in Northern Louisiana with a jump off point,if necessary to be Saturday night.A number of non essential staff are heading out tomorrow with a skeleton crew staying until the last minute......and 1 or 2 that may choose to ride it out with a couple of in depth medical cases, and to keep an all around watchful eye on this place :-X All clinic pets are tagged,up to date and ready to be evacuated with trailer on grounds.Should be interesting ?Biggest problem will be Gasoline.....again.Last time ,some wanna be thugs punched our tanks on the jeep and rental car in the immediate after math leaving them dry and imobile....this time they will not feel so daring.
Hope ya don't mind me Hijacking your thread Young blood,Sort of rambling but I had to get it off the shoulders and will post more here until it gets too hairy here.Might just grab the camera and throw some visuals into it......This ol' boy Gustov looks a bit pissed off and where ever it takes aim,Texas,Mississippi,Alabama,Florida,Ga. better be good to go!!!
Im all geared up and over prepared.............so now I get lost in some Boxing and just a few Fosters;D
