Re: < Andy Lee vs. Willie Gibbs > July 19th
Stewart still thinks he has the best middleweight in the world in his hands. From that fight he would lose to all three title holders.
He has good skills but still looks vulnerable in there.
Gibbs had no game plan at all. Just winging shots sparingly.
Re: < Andy Lee vs. Willie Gibbs > July 19th
Emmanual Stewart sees something we all can't see.......so I guess Andy Lee is a work in progress......if I had to give Lee some advice it would be to tighten that defence more and move yer head.......great last rnd but the juries still out on this guy
Re: < Andy Lee vs. Willie Gibbs > July 19th
I'm just happy the kid won cause aside from myslef and maybe one or two others no one thought Lee would comeback and win....

Ah come on Mick I don't think many would have seriously not thought Lee could win this, I mean Gibbs was blown away by Miranda in about 8 seconds if I recall.
Lee is overatted though, anyone who loses to Brian Vera by KO and gets beat up like he did will never be a serious world champion imo.
Looking back over the all the past middleweight greats I can't think of any who got beaten up by a journeyman so bad, sure some got knocked out to decent guys or world champs but I can't think of anyone who got beat down by a club fighter.
Re: < Andy Lee vs. Willie Gibbs > July 19th
Yeah I was expecting an early round KO to be honest, it's Willie Gibbs. Any fighter with a decent chin and right hand I probably wouldn't take Lee to beat.

I'm talking about prior to the fight.
I'm talking about the VERY next day after he lost to Vera.
People quickly wrote him off and said he wouldn't win again and that he would loose in his comeback fight.
Myself and I think 2 others said we thought Lee would comeback and win.
Don't missinterpret my post. I'm not raving and rooting :happy0931sb4:
with joy. By any means Am I even a fan of the kid.
All I'm saying is that I'm glad he won cause the very next day after he lost to Vera I would say 8 out of 10 people said he was done.
That is all nothing more nothing less.
I don't wanna defend the kid cause like I said I'm just happy he proved me right. But that whole Middleweight beat by a bum I mean come on Lees got what 17 fights I think.
You realize Monzon started off his career 18-3-3 and 1 NC.
Not comparing them per say but anyone can start off with the wrong foot it's what you do after that makes you great.
Anyway now that he proved me right maybe he can prove me right again as I think when he faces a top level fighter he'll lose.

Nah Mick you're misunderstanding me I'm not on about getting beat I'm on about getting beat up. Lee got overwhelmed and battered by a club fighter, big difference to losing on points.
Plus Monzon, Margarito and the like started their careers fighting for peanuts with no managers or trainers behind them.
Lee has got arguably the greatest trainer in the world in his corner and trains in the world's best gym with access to better sparring partners than any unknown South American fighter starting out could dream of.
I'm not saying he won't pick up a belt, he may well do, he's only young after all, I'm just saying there's no way he's going to be a great champion like Steward is saying.
I could be wrong, after all who would have thought 4 years ago that Wladimir would be ruling the heavyweight division now but I just can't see it.
Re: < Andy Lee vs. Willie Gibbs > July 19th
(Hitmandonny's excuse for Lee post)
Dec went to th weigh in.
Spent a lot of time with Gibbs in the US and said he had never looked as Dieseled up for a fight.
(Or as healthy;))
Re: < Andy Lee vs. Willie Gibbs > July 19th
Lee needed to KO Gibbs earlier.....he's got more to work on. He looked like he had the good earlier in his career and may still be a very good boxer but his power isn't there right now.
I'm still a fan of the guy, maybe he's gotten a little gunshy for the moment but I think he's going to be a good fighter and if he was to fight Vera again he needs to stay out of the "no man's land" where he gets hit with the right cross too often and needs to work on the outside and then throw quick combos on the inside before tying up or circling out.
Lee is a little too irish right now (meaning he is willing to be hit too much) and Manny needs to train him to be a better BOXER and not have him fall in love with his power.
Re: < Andy Lee vs. Willie Gibbs > July 19th
I think we'll all agree, regardless of Lee's performanace Gibbs looked better than he has in a while.
