Eubank was villanised by the press. They twisted virtually everything he said. He called boxing a mugs game - and was actually speaking up for fighters by making that statement but it was turned against him. Looking back it's almost impossible to find positive press on Chris and yet he was doing positive things including a lot of comunity work. The problem is Eubank visiting a school to give kids a pep talk isn't considered news.

Eubanks views never changed and yet after he lost - expecially to Thompson - the public fell in love with him.

Naz was hated in his prime by a lot of British fans - still is. Would the public perception have changed if he had fought on after fighting MAB - who knows...

Arrogance - confidence it's a fine line but I think you have to accept and appreciate that to be a winner in any sport especilly boxing you need it.

But i think it's personality people don't like not the fact someone is a dominant winner.

Ive seen Eubank say he enjoyed playing his ROLE. Like or loathe him he ENTERTAINED. I think he did change towards the end of his career, seemed far more humble.. or maybe the press painted a slightly different picture of him.. or maybe he was more liked because he was in two great fights with Thompson - considering he spent the bulk of his title reign in borefests.. so, i guess LOSING plays it's part, but is not the no.1 reason for the publics change of heart.

Anyway, the point was, Hatton's tremendous success didn't turn the majority of the public against him ;)

It was officially annouced that only 50,000 people tuned in ans paid for the Amir Khans fight.Its mention in this months Boxing Monthly Mag!Im not dishing Khan because i actually like him alot!but there was no way that he was worth PPV though.

It annoys the hell out of me that fight fans don't get to see our fighters without having to pay through the nose. It's the same with the England football team. The thing is though people are paying for it and as long as they do it will cotinue to happen. Only a few will make a stand and if hstory has taught us anything it is this - Quote "No majority ever gives a minority a chance" - Muhammad Ali. People need to stop bitching about the injustice and make a stand. Until they do we will continue to get screwed by fat cat broadcasting companies with no interest in our sweet science - they care about money, first, last and only.

Full respect to ITV for sticking with the boxing and I hope Thaxton gives a good show,

i think its because he has had to work really hard to get were he got where khan hasn't yet i dont think

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of people that want to see Khan fail? I like Khan, and was shocked at the manor of his defeat to Prescott. I agree totally with Shamrock that the KO was due to a problem with defence more than his ability to take a shot. When you watch the slow motion replay of the second left hook that knocked him down, I think it would have floored most fighters!

I'm definitely up for seeing him fight Thaxton, and Jon has been wanting to fight him for absolutely ages so he should make the most of this opportunity. It would be a big pay day for him too! If the next fight is PPV I'm probably not going to watch it... £15 for 54 seconds!??!!?!? :-\

It's not just you fella... there's no other nation I can think of where the fans and oublic treat their sportsman the way we British do. I've mentioned this a few times now. I don't why it is but we have a problem when it comes to winners. Frank Bruno gets hero status and supported to the hilt when his limitations are exposed and he loses. Eubank on the other hand gets vilified for being undefeated and having one of the longest world championship records. They are just two examples.

Amir has always been seen as a down to earth kid but over the last few months there have been worrying signs that he has started to believe his own hype. Trying to walk through a noted puncher in Precott with no plan B... scary.

The firing of his long time trainer and the jump to Sky PPV have also allienated him from genuine fans. Talk of Amir being ready for a world championship fight were ridiculous as is the talk that Amir is 'the biggest let down' for a fighter that has won an olympic medal. I remember Nigel Benn being knocked out by a jab from Michael Watson and a lot of people saying that he had been exposed and that his career was over... how wrong they were. Nigel took stock from the defeat learnt a hard lesson and came better. I hope Amir can do the same. I would love nothing better than for him to come back stronger. He has already said that training in the USA is great because he can walk down the street without being noticed. Maybe that will give him a reality check.

If he does learn from his mistakes and can progrees from the amateur style which he is still very much in it would be atravesty for us as a NAtion not to get behind him.

Thaxton will be a good test - if Amir has learnt from his last fight he will win... if not and he leaves his chin out Thaxton will more than likely takehis head off....

I agree it's very refreshing to see fans voting with their feet or remotes or whatever but the worrying thing is there are 50000 pricks out there that did pay:rolleyes: You just can't help some people !

Glad it was so low though. It was reported that they need 250,000 buys.. but also some sources said 100,000.

The apparent spectacular failure all-round hasn't STOPPED the next Khan fight from being PPV though has it :rolleyes:

Khan getting beat may actually boost the amount of people buying his next fight. People will buy it to see if he gets sparked the next time :rolleyes:

He was dropped by Limmond and dropped and hurt by Gomez neither of whom are considered big punchers... The feeling amongst fans at the moment is that Khan either can't take or can't defend against a decent shot. Add to this the fear factor that Khan will now be fighting with and I think whoever his next opponent is people will buy the fight to see what happens. A lot of people who buy these fights are not hardcore and won't have the knowledge to know if his next opponent is a patsy.

You're right about FW though n- he only has Khan and will be totally in the wilderness if he doesn't measure up. I hope he does. He's started to make the right steps - training in America reportedly getting top class training and bringing Freddie Roach on board. I doubt the Khan story is over for a while yet.
