Re: Slick Boxers Who Are Tough.
I think when you put slick and tough together you get James Toney PERIOD. He is the hardest stationary target to hit. TODAY
other notable guys: Ray leonard, Guzman, Breland, Whittaker, Tapia, Mijares, DLH, Calzaghe
I am a bit tired of hearing people booing Calzaghe... for what? He also is a slick boxer. I haven't seen anyone land any bombs on him before or rock him.
And everyone else praising Hopkins. Talk about a guy who is single-handedly killing the sport of boxing. He's just milking it for all it's worth. You know your done when the headline for your next fight is "Un-knockout-able" or whatever it is. He hasn't beaten anybody since Tarver. (and don't even get me started on him) And before that it was DLH, seriously, a guy coming up from LW fighting a guy who is a natural LHW. Now THAT puts us a few years back.
Why is he still fighting? to prove he can't get knocked out? So he can hug the championship rounds away and complain of low blows that never happened (calzaghe fight)? To try to cheat a decision out of a real fighter?
Cancel your BS fight this weekend and do us a favor and RETIRE ALREADY.
Re: Slick Boxers Who Are Tough.
Young Arturo Gatti, at 130, was slick and tough. Eventually he lost the slick part ;D

I wouldn't say Joe Calzaghe is really slick boxer, he is stiff in his upper body movement. And he doesn't have fludity or etc, and i have seen Joe Calzaghe get knocked down heavily from Kabary Salem who is no puncher.
But i understand what your trying to say but i just wouldn't really class Joe Calzaghe as a slick boxer, i've seen him get hit with right hands from Woodhall, Reid, over and over again. If he was slick he would not have got hit with even 40 percent of the right hands he took off those fighters.

If you could mix ugly with smart, you would get Hopkins. Maybe Chad Dawson.

How the hell is bhop killing boxing. him and pavlik have already sold 10 000 seats. which is good since hopkins isnt even a exciting fighter anymore
hes crafty.
What about winky. he was one of the most avoided fighters in the sport.
Hopkins has a right to complain its not like calzaghe clearly won he was the one that was on the canvas in the 1st round, and didnt land anything FLUSH enough to clearly win most rounds. he only won cause his workrate.:p
Re: Slick Boxers Who Are Tough.
Paulie Malignaggi. Anyone who can take a 12-round ass whooping off Cotto and still be standing is one tough guy in my eyes. Still, I suppose it's down to opinion.

Hopkins is clearly a slick fighter, maybe watch some of him when he was younger and threw a bunch of punches and still was very good defensively.
Re: Slick Boxers Who Are Tough.

I think workrate is a very good gauge for who wins a fight. I don't care how many punches you can dodge, go play dodgeball or paintball.
I don't see how ANYone can give Hopkins the nod in that fight. He was not conditioned to go the distance. He has had 43 years to prepare for that fight. If he's too old to beat top level opposition, then stop fighting. Why didn't he want a rematch? ... clearly because he cannot compete at the world class level. I am not sure where you are going with this, but I don't think I will be eating my words after this weekend.
Winky was/is very avoided.. no doubt. There is just no easy way of getting to that guy with a pair of gloves on. No one wants to fight him, because they all know the only way you are going to beat him is by split decision, no matter how hard you work. He has a price he'll fight for, and a purse split in mind... It's just not one that any logical fighter would ever take. Where were the flush shots from Hopkins on Winky anyway in their fight?

Well put. Well put. Joe is a little stiff up top.
I can say that Joe didn't beat B-Hop like he did Lacy, so I can identify with the people on this site not giving Joe all the credit some (like myself) want to give him.

Im pretty sure pavlik will win to. but i give hopkins way more credit for taking a fight that calzaghe didnt want. Joe aint that much world class if he wants to fight a past his prime roy jones than kelly pavlik. the fight with roy does nothing for either of them but gets them pay checks thats it.
