I read an interview in which He said "I don't know,I might think about it later,but not just yet" after being asked if he wanted to fight Benn.He was making big bucks fighting a few so-so fighters and getting mad exposure,risk reward ratio I believe.Would have been a great clash of styles.....for as long as it lasted ;D

Personally I think a prime Roy Jones versus a prime Joe Calzaghe is one hell of a matchup.

WRONG if u look at calzaghe in his prime he shows nothin special, but look at jones in his prime he str8 destroyed his opponents and made them look like sparring partners did joe do any of that NO.

and his chin is nothing like Hopkins or Toney, Joe has flash knockdowns as he showed against hopkins;) and the only time bhop has been down was agains Mercado and fought back to a draw AND has fought a PRIME roy jones, felix trinidad (feared power puncher), antonio tarver (who kod Jones) and kelly pavlik. Joe has NOT fought power punchers like Hopkins. EVER

The fact is Jones Jr looked spectaculat beating up on largely ordinary fighters.

Don't get me wrong he's beaten some great fighters too but looking spectacular doesn't equal winning every fight.

I know some of you like to think he was God until for some reason his chin packed up in the rematch with Tarver but the truth is that Jones in his early days was technically flawed but so athletically gifted he could get away with it.

Calzaghe would have been faster than any fighter he ever faced and wouldn't have allowed Jones to get into a rythm.

Not saying Calzaghe would definitely win, but it's by means a blowout.

You don't get to be 45-0 and to unify all four title belts in a division without being incredibly good. Calzaghe at his best is not an easy fight for any man in the world, not even the mythically perfect fighter that was Roy Jones Jr.

Jones Jr was an exceptional fighter, but he was only human as some people seem to forget. Calzaghe is a great fighter, just as Jones was and I agree that it wouldnt have been a blowout or shutout at all. Calzaghe is just too skilled, too busy and too tough to just get stopped or not make the fight in any way competitive.

Of course, Jones is the favourite, but you dont rule out a fighter who at his best is quite exceptional himself.

Im bored with a lot of these Calzaghe debates these days, because its the same old people detracting with the same old, tired arguments. "Jones was a superman, as was Toney and Hopkins....Calzaghe no chance!...blah de blah blah bloody blah". Its nonsense. Just opinions flavoured with a dislike of an extremely good fighter.

Calzaghe would give Jones Jr possibly the toughest test of his career. And anyone who disagrees with me can just keep quiet or get back in the classroom. :)

I think James Toney embarrassed himself by going into the Jones Jr fight completely drained. Toney has been notorious for his frequent battles with the bulge of course. It would have been much closer had he not been such a tub of goo going into training camp for the first time. His own silly fault.

well the reason i responded like that is because he brought my age up, saying i didnt no anything about roy jones because those fights were 10 years ago, and that means nothing AT ALL. just because im younger than the fighters i watch means im not gonna kno nothing about him FUK THAT

Read A interview with Benn right after his fight with McCllelan(sp)where Benn basically says that he did not want anypart of Roy Jones for fear of getting hurt in the Ring,Benn was obviously still realing from what happened in the fight with Gerald,unfortunately this was the best and most marketable time to make this fight,For the recaord Steve Collins twice turned down carear high pay days to fight Roy Jones.

No,I dont mind really,it`s just Iam not that good at getting around on the computer.I would`nt have the slightest idea where to look for it.The interview was in Boxing Monthly shortly after Benn`s fight with Gerald.

Calzaghe has never really been hurt as a pro and dispite the fact that Jones had great 1 punch KO power a lot of Jones's fights were quite boring witth Jones not tring to finnish his opponents.

The reason for this is because Jones has always know his chin is not the best.

The same reason he did not fight Nigel Benn IMO.

The answer to the question is quite obviously yes, Joe could have competed with a prime Roy Jones Jnr. Would he have beaten him? Probably not, but thats not the question being asked.

If Montell Griffen could give Jones a hard time, Im sure Calzaghe could.

Thats silly logic Memphis just because Montel Griffin gave RJJ, few problems in there first fight. Doesn't mean Joe Calzaghe would give RJJ the same problems. First off Montel Griffin was short and awkward and he would get under punches, and he gave his opponent's unorthodox angles he is nothing like Joe Calzaghe at all. Plus remind me what happened in the rematch ?

Griffin gave Jones problems for all those reasons you mention. Calzaghe could do the same because he is much much much better than Griffin. Its not a complicated train of thought.
