Hmm, probably not my best posting ever. And apologies if I upset anyone with my drunken raving.
All I will say to sum up my opinion is that we all have to put bread on the table. I know for a fact that if I was in the UK and struggling to find work, even working in the local supermarket wouldnt be beneath me, or even in an off licence. Im highly educated, but if times are really that rough, then thats what I would do. Cleaning the streets might not be a lot of fun, but it puts money in the bank.
Im certainly not telling everybody to go and teach ESL. After all, you do need a major, clean health and no criminal record. A good school will also require an MA and experience too. But for those types who are educated and willing to get off their arses and work, Im just saying that there is always some kind of work one can be doing. It just might not be the work that you would want to do but there are jobs and not all jobs are so choosy.
In times like these, beggers cant be choosers (as my Mum would say).
Right, Im off my soap box. I need a glass of water. :-\
I'm not sure but I think Von is American Miles.
Plus he may not have a wife and kids to feed and so is trying to get a job in his chosen career field, which is fair enough if he's invested years of his life becoming qualified in it. And he is applying for jobs, just not getting them.
Not really our place to judge others on here, it's just where we all come for some escapism I say keep lectures about people's personal life off the boards, none of us even know each other in real life after all.
It is no doubt frustrating to be educated and not be getting the opportunities you think you deserve. But if the opportunities in that field are restricted and the competition too tough, then maybe alternatives should be sought in the mean time. Unemployment is sometimes an easier option than grinding out a living doing something we think is beneath us.
But in saying that, I am getting on my high horse again. And Im too hungover for that. :-\
It was nice of you to go along with that Bilbo, maybe you are a bit of a nice guy.
There is one problem with the way you have used the phrase in the mean time. It may be true to a certain extent but...If you are just taking a grunt job that you are way overqualified for, then the employer knows that you are only there until you find something better, and is likely to bump you to the bottom of the list because of that. I mean, why bother hiring and training someone who you know is gonna catch the first plane outta here?
That a fair point. But I would imagine the lowest jobs have a high turnover rate anyway. A supermarket, for example, would most likely be happy with what they can get. Nobody plans on waiting tables as a long term career choice. And the way things seem that high level job isnt going to come around too quickly anyway. But I see completely where you are coming from though.
Yeah regarding a supermarket you are probably right, but my point isn't about whether any jobs are available to Von but more whether it's any of our fucking business. ;)
I just don't like it when any posters start to get on their moral high horse and lecturing others on their personal lives. I didn't like it when it happened to ICB and Donny either when some people questioned how they were going to pay for their kids and whether they were going to request state help.
It's just insulting to and rude and judge people that we don't even know.
I'm all for having a laugh and taking the piss out of each other, lord knows I do plenty of that, but personal attacks about serious things shouldn't have a place on the forum imo.
Anyway that's my two cents.
