The Kessler win is his best, would have liked to have seen him do it again against the K man but it was not to be. He was obviously good, and he retires undefeated, you can't do any better than that. I would have been more impressed had he beaten any of those guys at their peak, (Kessler excepted) he was a stay at home champion for 95% of his career and only traveled when the odds of winning were stacked in his favour.
Kessler fights Hopkins, who wins? Just answer me that, who would your money be on?
A prime Hopkins, & I wouldn't even be thinking about it, he'd take him easy. 44 year old B-Hop against Kessler would be a 50-50 for me ;)

I'd love to know what other people think too but I'd bet on Hopkins. He is a dirty, awkward but a smart fighter who I think would frustrate the hell out of Kessler.
So if 'The Third Man' thinks Kessler was his best win yet I reckon most would pick Hopkins to win if he fought Kessler (I know you have it a pick em) isn't that plain wrong? He put age 43 in there to make Hopkins sound as past it as he could.
I think Hopkins is ugly to watch at times and fights dirty but he had Kelly Pavlic in fits and broke his heart, a guy that beat Taylor twice(one by KO)and Taylor beat Hopkins twice.
Hopkins (as much as I hate him) is one of the best conditioned fighters of any era at his age and has evolved almost perfectly with his style. That is fact.
Re: would calzaghe of ever been beaten??
:lolhaha: ATG???? Undefeated???
Great fighter and one of the best SMW ever but against better fighters or younger versions of some of his opponents he is not undefeated. I'd take prime Eubanks/RJJ/Bhop all over Joe

He just strikes me as the kind of fighter that is so good he just doesnt have to turn up and fight his A game to beat a guy and apart from perhaps dawson catching him with something special there really was nothing of any threat that would of suggested joe would be in danger of not getting to 50-52 straight wins.
Remember hearing the chant at the hatton-mayweather weigh in aimed at bernard hopkins of "You`ll never beat calzaghe, you`ll never beat calzaghe" and it actually now seems pretty apt to be honest.
top 5 p4p all time greatest champions?? a good possibility
greatest ever british sportsmen?? id probably have him ahead of the likes of moore, charlton, botham etc!
ok sick of making Calzaghe out to be some god, Dawson would beat him at 175 and honestly how the hell did Joe clean out the division??? he hasn't fought tough and rugged Glen Johnson, he hasn't fought the man that many think is really #1 at lightheavy which is Dawson, hell he's even too scared to give the man i feel already beat him in B-Hop, in 2001 Jones would have destroyed Calzaghe and would have made him look ordinary at best. the fact that Calzaghe wasn't even able to really blow away the loser from the Contender Peter Manfredo, a man who was whooped by a welterweight and a jr. middleweight, it says alot
Valuev almost beat Marcianos record, Holmes was one win away I think, these are heavies and that's all that can compete for Marciano's record. Look at this guys record, (julio ceser chavez) I think he went 90 + wins before he lost, does that count as blowing all these guys records away.?? Out of these lists of the best p4p all time from everyone here I don't know if I ever seen his name in any of them.

I hear what you are saying about Hopkins, he is a freak and his ability to continue to fight and perform as well as he does at his age defies all that we know about boxers. How would Calzaghe handle a 30-35 old Hopkins? I go Hopkins UD.
Kessler was a great win for Calzaghe and all praise to him for that one, Kessler is a very, very good fighter and Calzaghe beat him at his best.

What I'm saying is, prime or not, Hopkins would beat Kessler. He would beat him now and he would beat him in his prime. My point was that your saying Kessler was his[Joe Calzaghe's]best win because he was younger, younger usually is considered a fighters prime naturally.
The thing is you said a washed up RJJ and a 43 year old Hopkins. 43 he may be but he is still amazingly able to compete with the elite and beat them.
Re: would calzaghe of ever been beaten??
How the hell can bernard hopkins be seen as not being in his "prime"????
Oh thats right because he was 6 years older than joe calzaghe when he fought him and as the kelly pavlik fight showed (which by the way the same pathetic saddoers who claim dawson would beat calzaghe claimed pavlik would ruin him ;D) he is clearly way past his glory days isnt he??
Perhaps the second a guy turns 35 he should automatically be discarded and perhaps even forced into retirement..lennox lewis should of been made to hand over his title to michael grant despite knocking him out in 2rounds because even with that performance his age suggests to everyone on here that he was way past his prime at the time!!
Ever heard of "maturing like a fine wine"??
NO......
How about desperate, angry bitter americans who cant take the fact your boys arent actually the superstars youve spent decades making them out to be!!!!!!!!!

I think the best thing Joe can do is stay retired. I feel by keeping on fighting he may raise his legacy for a short time but eventually he would lose and do damage to it.
Roy Jones is a classic example of this. If he'd retired after the first Tarver fight he would have been officially 48-1 but theoretically undefeated cos his only loss was DQ and he revenged that with a brutal first round KO. He'd have reitred a 4 weight champ and with a much greater record than Joes. But he went one fight too many and has been ruining his legacy ever since.
Julio Cesar Chavez is the same. Say he had retired before the Randall fight at 89-0. 3 division champ. His legacy would have been atleast as good as Joes, but by going on too long he ruined it.
Felix Trinidad could have had a similiar record to Joe as well. If he'd retired before the Hopkins fight at 40-0. He'd have won titles in 3 divisions, had 21 title defenses and consistently fought better competition than Joe to defend those titles, he just went on too long.
Im just trying to say that Joes career is nothing that outta the ordinary. Its just he has probably timed things better.

Kessler can box, I wouldn't fancy Bernard to do to Kessler what he did to Pavlik.
Jermain Taylor beat up on Hopkins TWICE (and IMO beat Pavlik in the rematch) why is Calzaghe opposed to fighting him?

Taylor never beat up hopkins at any point during either fight.
Just clearly outworked a guy who was shot at the weight and severely weight drained as well all could say.
Stick jermain taylor in with hopkins at 175 and i`ll bet every last penny on bhop giving him a whooping.
As for kessler-Hopkins - A truly great tactical battle that hopkins probably just gets the better of.

That's an easy question to answer.. If you have ever played any sport before in your life, you shouldn't even have to ask this question. Why would Hopkins EVER take his foot off the gas and not try to win the fight any way possible? If you're winning 10-0 in a baseball game, is it wrong to score more runs?
ESPECIALLY in boxing, you NEVER know with the judges. You have to do anything you can do win. You MAY ALMOST had a case if B-Hop wasn't known for his antics. But he always does those types of things. If you remember, Kelly Pavlik almost low blowed BHOP in their fight because he was getting desperate.. BHOPS antics in Joe's fight were not out of desperation, that's simply just Hopkins.
yeah i played sport but i dont tend to pretend sumone hit me in the balls i weak ass shit like that, hopkins knew he was losing & was trying everthing he could to get outta a fight he knew he couldnt win.

Give me a break, he could not take the pace and he wanted a breather. He has never faked a low blow before.
Bloody hell!
He was trying to do everything he could to win the fight.. I think thats the point.
I've flopped in a basketball game to take a charge and get the call. I've flopped dramatically when someone almost tripped me in hockey to get a power play. It's all part of the game.
I know that it wasn't a low blow, it was obvious, but Hopkins sold it to the ref and took the breather that the ref gave him. It may be a punk move, but it's smart as hell if you ask me. If JC did that, i'd say the same thing, and i dislike JC. You're just saying it because it's Hopkins. But there are a very small crop of neutral minded people here, so it's understandable.

Your underestimating Kessler, i think he is better than Pavlik and Hopkins might beat him, i emphasize might beat him now. The fact is Calzaghe beat a then unbeaten prime Kessler, whose to say that Kessler won't go undefeated for the next 5 years? Remember Hopkins lost to Jones jr early on and nobody would have thought he would be a Middleweight champion with 20 title defences. A Hopkins V Kessler match up would be a great one, but as i said Kessler is a lot better than Pavlik and Hopkins would need to be at his very best to win.
Re: would calzaghe of ever been beaten??
To be honest after watching B-HOP last time out I wouldn't have been surprised if he reversed the decision in a rematch had it happened!
Re: would calzaghe of ever been beaten??
I just found this, its quite interesting, it obviously didnt get shown in te UK, the interview I saw, Byron says, "Ive never been hit so hard, so fast, so often!"
