In my opinion there is no doubt that some of the hatred towards Khan comes from his race, in some people at least sub-consciously. I've seen a number of people who will get fervently behind any other British fighter going, yet seem to have real disdain for Khan.
However, there are obviously other reasons that play into it that I won't deny such as the PPV deal (which really pissed me off), the talk of taking on Mayweather, Hatton, Pacquiao etc when he still hadn't won anything other than a Commonwealth title, the hype that Warren & the media created round him by virtue of him being a medal winner.
The comparison with Naz has never helped him IMO, because he will never be the same type of fighter & he is nowhere near the cock Naz is. However, this was chiefly created by the media & happily encouraged by those around Khan, the same people who pushed for the PPV deal, principally Asif Valli & Khan's father. They probably thought it was a good idea looking more at Naz' success as a boxer rather than his antics that pissed a lot of people off.
Anyway back to the race issue, & one thing is clear & anyone who read any of the comments sections on British Sports websites after Prescott knocked him out will see that for a number of people his race was a big factor in their dislike. Comments like 'pakistanis are not genetically suited to sports' & 'least he can go back to managing a cornershop' are clearly racist, & these were the ones that weren't immediately deleted by the mods. It has not reached stuff like that on Saddo's thankfully, but I would be lying if I said I hadn't seen stuff that I consider racist on this forum although not necessarily about Amir Khan.
Fenster, I think you are being a bit naive if you don't think that people in London can be openly racist, being an ethnic minority born & raised here I can assure you they very easily can. I remember playing a casual boxing fan on my local football team saying he didn't like Khan because he was 'too big for his own boots'. Maybe being mixed-race I do tend to read more or analyse what people say in a way others might not, but I have definitely heard & read things about Khan that I consider racist. I would also say Fenster that you should take it as a good sign you don't know anyone who's racist about Khan, it just means you keep good company ;)
Missy, I think the support of Khan is more down to identification. Generally people will choose to support a fighter due to either liking their fighting style or because they identify with them on some level. Young, Asian men choosing to support Khan is no different than the young white men (not always big boxing fans) who go out to Las Vegas to support Ricky Hatton, neither bothers me, I would just like it if they would make the effort to know more about the sport in general. I will tell you something else, very few black or Asian people will tell you that you're a racist if you choose to support a white fighter, because there is nothing wrong with it. William Dettloff did a really good article on it online just before the Pavlik-Hopkins fight. I will be honest enough to say that if a black fighter is up against white fighter, & I have no allegiance to either, then I will root for the black guy more. If a white person did the same the other way round it wouldn't be racist, at least no more than me doing it. The Pac-fans don't bother me for their support of Pac, only for their lack of general boxing knowledge.
Sanchez, as you can see above I don't think racism is non-existent here, however suggesting that there cannot be any other reasons to dislike Amir Khan is wrong, and yes whilst I agree that those factors have played some part, the posters here deserve better than being called racists simply on the basis of the Warren factor. If these same posters are singing Frankie Gavin's praises IF he has 20 fights under Warren you will have a point, but until then you simply don't.
I will reiterate though that I feel like some others that Khan's race (& his religion in the current climate) do play a role in the dislike that SOME have for him. He is nowhere near as cocky as other British boxers (Froch, Witter) & yes the hype is irritating but its not his fault, & I'd like to think that if he does beat Barrera than some will start to cut him a bit more slack (also as a final point MAB is a legend who deserves all the support he will get here in a months time). Let's all look forward to a good fight :)
Excellent Post! For posters here to state there EXTREME hate for Khan is strictly because of his glass chin and his questionable competition are being ridiculously NAIVE! As you mentioned, subconsciouly, the racism is there yet to cover this, posters CONTINOUSLY you the same excuse about Khan over and over and over again.
Am I excusing Khan of not having his faults and he deserves to be criticized? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I will be the first to say he has a chin made of the finest China. I use to speak about his weak competition but now that's he stepping up to fight Barrera, I have changed my tune in that regard. Yet instead of giving praise to Khan for fighting tough competition, he gets SLAGGED on even more. LOL...the subconcious racism is so apparent, it's mind-boggling.
From all interviews of Khan I've seen, he actually seems to be a decent individual. Critcizing a boxer is one thing. But what I've found on this forum and MANY other is the sheer amount of HATRED expressed towards Khan. I've never seen any boxer that has been HATED on so much as Khan (again criticism is one thing, but HATRED is something else). It seems posters here look for the opportunity to say something negative about him. IMO, as JazMerkin has stated, his Race and Religion have ALOT to do with it. Posters here just refuse to come to terms with their inner racism to admit it.
Did you read the 2nd to last paragraph of my post, I said the posters on here deserve not to be called racist, I've never seen any evidence that suggests they are. There may be posters on the entire forum who I may feel can be racist, but bringing them up publicly isn't the right way to go about it. They can have their views, but I can also have the view that they're idiots not worth the time of my day & ignore them. But, the posters here have not shown me anything in this thread to suggest their racist, & if there was any one person who I thought was it would be borne out of reading a number of their posts in different topics & threads. I don't believe anyone has said anything throughout this thread that is racist so stop trying to tar certain people with that brush.

Bollocks.
I hope Barrera knocks Khans jaw off in to your lap.
Hated on? Check out the threads on Hatton/Mayweather and just about every boxer on the planet.
I think you should be re-named 2Chips. One on each shoulder.

Of course there are millions of racists in London. Ive heard/known many - from all walks of life. And of course people will hate on Khan because he's a "paki."
I've never heard anyone slag Khan because he's a Muslim or has Pakistani roots. I'm giving my own personal experience. Just because someone hears racist comments aimed at Khan in a pub, or reads them on a Brit forum, doesn't mean the whole of the UK shares those beliefs.
We're dealing with small groups NOT the majority. As some naive/ignorant people would have you believe ;)

howdy - but I'm at least glad you can see my point? Qui?
Interesting you'll admit to betting on black. Why is that?
As for the hating on Khan because he's muslim/pakistani. Nope check my record. I pretty much hate on all British fighters;D
Something else I'd like to throw in here. Whilst we can admit that some people will hate on Khan because of colour/religion etc. There are plenty of people - and we're all guilty of it who just resort to name calling playground tactics. It doesn't have to have meaning or racist intent.
If a fat knacker walks in front of my car I give 'em abuse. In fact it happened the other day. One frizzy ginger haired cow and her black mate just held up her hand stopped the traffic and sauntered across the road. My language was less than ladylike as they chose to eyeball me.
Am I gingerist or racist? No. But I reserve the right to hurl abuse when people piss me off. That's the point of it.
I actually wasn't saying that you were hated on Khan because of his background just that some do. Yes I can see the point you are making, although I don't necessarily agree with it.
I will tend to support a black fighter if I have no other allegiances to the two primarily because of a feeling of idenitification. Its not an intended choice, just a choice that I sub-consciously make. Like I said, I would not consider a white person racist for doing the same.
Regards to the name-calling, true if you're supporting the other fighter calling Khan a prick, cunt or whatever else is a way (if not one I would choose) of putting him off his game. However, anyone calling him a paki is unacceptable, & anyone who does shit like that I would like to see banned from seeing boxing in the way the same is done in football.
On you're last point, if they are pissing you off, yes you reserve the right to hurl abuse. However, if you start hurling racial abuse then you have crossed a line. If I was doing the same pissing you off, then yeah you can call me a cunt, dickhead, whatever. You call me a nigger or half-breed though & you've gone too far. You can call me all kinds of shit, but you don't need to specify my race when abusing me. I've been racially abused by white & Asian people & I pride myself on not lowering myself to the level & being racist back. Smacking the fuckers is far more satisfying anyway ;D

People in Britain? Don't you mean SOME people?
Khan is one of the most popular fighters in Britain.
Who are these people that resent his success because of his ethnicity? Personally i don't know any.
If you dont know anybody who hates Khan just because he is Asian then you must live in a great place .
After his loss people were phoning radio5 live just to gloat.Sad but true.

I apologize. I should have been clearer. I'm not labelling ANYONE specifically on this forum. I have NOT mentioned a single posters name in this thread or any others claiming that individual was racist. I'm merely stating that some, NOT all posters on this forum have a hint of racism in their posts with regards to Khan...not ALL posters, but defientely a number that do.

Just wondering why you didn't bring the incident when a psycho approached Khan and dented his car? Khan could have knocked his head clean off, but didn't do a thing?

You know, I actually saw this on TV. The host was actually SHOCKED! He stated something like 90% of British fans...90% of British Boxing fans that called in were actually HAPPY Khan was knocked out...
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
How on earth has this thread turned into a race argument? No way hating on Khan has anything to do with him being a Muslim, suggesting otherwise (subconsciously or not Sanchez) is just silly.
A lot of posters on here (mainly US) hated on Ricky Hatton when he was protected by Warren. They all hated on Joe Calzaghe when he was protected by Warren too. And now they hate on Khan who guess what? Is protected by Warren...
The only reason I can imagine why Khan gets worse stick than Hatton and JC is because us boxing fans are just plain fed up of it by now. To suggest we're all being racist but don't realise it is stupid.
Out of interest Sanchez786, what is your religion/nationaility?

Or maybe i don't know any racists.
I went to a Khan fight to offer some local support, not to Khan. They segregated the fans as they came in, an annoucement came over the speaker system about no racist chants etc not being tolerated and there was a big police pressence.
Annoyed the hell out of me. Especially when a group of lads, all asian, all sporting Khan tracksuits:rolleyes: were sat in the opposing area. As the evening went on them were surrounded by police to protect them. They sat about grinning over the shoulders of the police as a few people were escourted out. The whole event had an air of wtf  about it.
Nothing against them or Khan but, by forcing the fans to segregate and making an issue about Khans colour it draws attention to something that wasn't a problem until other people made it so. I've never been segregated like that in my life.
I don't like Warren and his overprotection of fighters. It harms the fighter and the quality of the sport in general and I don't like bangwaggons, so called fans who just sign up to a sole fighter based on whatever link they think they have with them.
Those who support Khan because of his ethnicity annoy me just as much as those who don't support him because of his ethnicity.
Which is pretty much the feeling I have toward pacfans in general.;D:cool: Hell at least they have a fighter that's done something to shout about.
Hey Missy Ive never disagreed with you before in the past but I do here . . . . I think its actaully a good thing that they seperate us from the Khan fans for their own saftey and Id advise them to do the same thing on March 14th particularly if Khan wins ;D
As for this whole race thing I didnt realise there was an issue but Ive noticed when I insult Pac fans they always play the race card too. Maybe its just a defence mechanism for asians :-\
Either way, regardless who is the opposite corner I will always back Barrera & if that makes me racist then so be it .

Fair play to Khan for not reacting, but remember the bloke had a hammer, and Khan is like many top young sportsman, be in boxing , football, etc.
He has plenty of cash and seems to get himself in trouble, although a lot of it is probably due to his clan he hangs around with.
What Amir must remember is he's in the public eye and so far has had an easy ride when so many young talented boxers give up so much more to get half of what Khan gets. He must concentrate on his boxing and not just put himself in the position for trouble.
Before you make comment on me, i live about 6 mile from Bolton and appreciate that there are many people who will want Khan to fail due to his ethnic background, and the attack on hos car may have been racist, I have not read anything about his attacker. Sure there are people who hate Khan due to his background, there are just so many other reasons.
And I would like to see Khan do well being a local lad, except if he fights John Murray
