I was expecting you to say that the people that booed him turned his back on him and now became hardcore Pac fans.
BoomBoom,
Good point. The fight that people enjoyed that night was put together by ODLH.

Hulk,
That makes me wonder how many of Floyd's "yes men" will be around if Floyd went broke. I mean, what happened to Tyson's "yes men"? They all dissapeared as fast as his money. Truly sad.

I find it hillarious that you guys think Oscar cares that people booed him......These guys dont give a crap about some fans booing (especially if they didnt do anything to deserve it)
Nice input Bro...
Hurt your feelings to know the athletes care more about money than the fans??? The NFL has classes that teach the players how to be fan friendly and how being a fan favorite will increase the amount of money they make......I would bet money the speech Oscar gave about being embarassed about the Pac loss and not wanting to face anyone was conjured up by his publicist.........

Think about it! Of course he cares. A celebrities image is what sells. The more popular the image the more it is worth. Oscar's persona is a nice guy image with business savvy. If his images suffers so does Oscar. I think is much easier for the bad guy image because the popularity is born from controversy which will automatically put up a defensive stance. "the who cares attitude". The nice guy image doesn't have that.

I'm sure the "yes men" would abandon Floyd much like Tyson's did. And Ali's.
The only ones you can trust in your corner are long time trainers and family members.
And sometimes not even them.
Re: Boos pummel De La Hoya
Boos hurt there pride and ego, and no matter what money they may have, they would want the cheers and respect of the fans.

DOnt give him sympathy. He is laughing all the way to the bank.
Those are horrible ways to think...thats material stuff.
Money & material stuff dont matter when you have it all.
Whats worth more to you 1Mil or your mother's love? Ps- dont answer that.
It wasn't his mother who was booing him, that only happens to Audley Harrison I believe

Re: Boos pummel De La Hoya
Personally, I've never liked Oscar De La Hoya, but he HAS done a great deal for the sport of boxing. I would never boo him. Him getting booed doesn't surprise me in the least though. I went to the Juan Diaz-Michael Katsidis fight down here in Houston last September and ODLH was there. He got booed then too. The fans booed and started a "Margarito" chant when he was shown on the big screen. It's not an issue with boxing fans not appreciating ODLH, it's most definitely a cultural thing. Everyone I saw booing was Latino. I think that there has always been some type of resentment between ODLH and Latinos. Not really Latino-Americans but Latinos. I can't really speak on it, but all I know is that when I went to watch the ODLH-Vargas fight at a Latino friend's house; my friends (who were born here) were routing for ODLH, their dad and uncles were all going for Vargas, and their mom and aunts were going for ODLH. I think that ever since the Trinidad "ran the last three rounds" debacle, most older Latino guys that grew up with guys like JCC, started labeling ODLH as a fake, pretty boy pussy. ODLH did take a lot of challenges but that still doesn't seem to earn him respect with some people for some reason. I've always thought that he was really overrated, but his resume can't be denied.

If you were to say that about most professional athletes today, I'd probably agree with you. But I think Oscar DOES care about people booing him. Remember, he's all about ego, image and legacy. And getting booed by his own hometown people has GOT to hurt someone like Oscar.
As for what I think of it... well, probably nobody on this forum dislikes Oscar more than I do, as has been well recorded in the past. But even I don't think he should get booed like that. Doesn't speak highly of some of his "supposed" fans. Love him or hate him, he HAS done a lot for the sport of boxing (yeah, I really said that), and has had a great career (no, I'm not on drugs or running a fever). For him to get booed, probably on the heels of his humiliating loss to Pacquiao, is just wrong.... IMO.
