OK, I emailed Sergio Martinez and he said the following: "Yes but it was very limited...mostly exhibition types..." So your post is pretty damn good re JC.

didnt he box in the golden gloves before he started robbing and getting in trouble with the police which is when he left boxing until he got put in prison
Re: What great fighters fought without having an amature career?
Another interesting thing about JCC is that, yes, he did fought lots of unknown guys out there during the start of his career but with that being said, everybody would expect him to lose the first time he faced a big name on his prime but he kept proving people wrong (commentators, boxing experts, fans, etc.) and ended up being a hall of famer that accomplished a lot.

Well, the third one I have in mind was born in France but fought all his fights in another country
Re: What great fighters fought without having an amature career?
I know he is not a great boxer but Steve Robinson had a very sucsesfull time in the pros with very little time in the amateur game.
One of my top fighters of all time as I used to watch his fights as a kid.;D

Nobody is really sure, but considering, before he got involved in crime,he'd gotten stabbed in the subway and had a punctured lung,I doubt it

Good try. He had a short amature career. I am going to wait until my 1,000th post before I say who my third one is.
