lotta people didnt like that one, myself i loved it thought it was great almost a forgotten film in a way
I thought pretty much everyone loved that film, its an underrated masterpiece. And the music in it, especially when he's about to kill Daniel Craig gives me chills right down to my spine.
I pretty much love all the ones that have been mentioned, but i just watched Kings Of New York again. After not seeing it in almost a decade. And i thought it was pretty good. I loved Lawerence Fishburne in that.

I've seen A Bronx Tale mentioned a few times, I love that movie. Written and directed by De Niro.
Actually it was written by Chazz Palminteri, the actor who plays Sonny. Its loosely based on real life events he went through, as a kid growing up in the Bronx. Like in real life as a teenager he went went out with a black girl if i remember rightly, hence why that was a big part of the film.
Re: favourite gangster movies of all time
scarface is the best for me. brilliant film
Re: favourite gangster movies of all time
Mullholand drives was very good, same thing for New Jack city, Scarface is a classics, I think that the godfather is um-beatable though. i've seen a very interesting documentary about the Noonan family in Manchester, it's called a very British gangster, they were following Dominic Noonan, only a glimpse of what the family is involved in but indeed, a very interesting documentary.
Re: favourite gangster movies of all time
Mafia style ones
Godfather I
Godfather II

Goodfella's
Miller's Crossing <-------Think I'm the first to mention that one.

Re: favourite gangster movies of all time
Gangster movies are my favorite I went on a binge of them recently, excellent stuff some of these. Most I agree with, City of God was fucking awesome and one of the best shot movies ever imo. Casino, obviously great Pesci performance he was tops in that one and DeNiro was awesome. I made a whole list of 10 movies then went back to find the ones that weren't mentioned and only one remained.
Eastern Promises - One of the grittiest movies I've ever seen with a very intriguing storyline that involves the Russian mob and a few different interweaving storylines and it brings up a lot of emotion from the mentally challenged, sex trafficking to harming an infant it deals with a lot. Viggo Mortenson plays one of the most badass characters ever and has some of the coolest dialog for a character in a mafia movie ever. Has a few shocking moments, not the least of which is Viggo Mortenson fighting to the death butt naked in one of the most gruesome fight scenes ever.

Yeah Scarface was good in the 1980's but it was also good in 1932 when it was originally made.

You're right. I always thought De Niro wrote it as well as directed it.
