Re: Catch Weight - Title fight?
My very simple take on it (and I'm no physiologist ;)) is that if you don't have any body fat, then you can't drop any more weight (even 1 pound) without either losing muscle tissue or dehydrating - neither of which would be ideal preparation for a fight ;)
I can lose 3 pounds going for a 'Doctor Who', but I'm a 220 pound lay about not a trained physical specimen ;D

Pac is worth a lot of money which is why these guys will do it, that's the way of the world but I just hope that Pac fan boys realise that he is using more than just his boxing abilities to make a victory happen here and if he does beat another weight drained fighter he's obviously not going to mention this.
It will be a legendary 7th title win but if he manages to weight drain Mosely like he is clearly trying to it should be a tainted one.
You forgot to mention that Mosley is very very very old! ;D

I'm sure as long as EVERYONE get's a piece of the $ pie $ they can come to an agreement.
SRL-Lanlonde was for 2 titles in 2 different classes BUT they both had to weigh in twice and weigh in at each weight class.
It's possible...
Even so, didn't this fight bring about the 168 division?
Or is that just some Myth that i've heard ???
I hope they don't go and create a 144LBS Limit... The Super Cruiserweight Division gets Priority  :p

ok, how 'bout this? no catchweight, fight at 147lb limit BUT they do it on the condition of same day weigh-in. how well do you suppose that would fly?
Re: Catch Weight - Title fight?
NEWS FLASH :
Bernard Hopkins weighs 156lbs againts the 155lbs Oscar DelaHoya for Hopkins WORLD MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE.
Its in the contract that Hopkins cant be heavier than 156 ;)
141 to 147 lbs is a WELTERWEIGHT FIGHT
IF PAC and MOSLEY gets it done between 141 and 147bls IT WILL BE for Mosley's Welterweight TITLE.
It happened before. believe it.
Re: Catch Weight - Title fight?
MANNY PACQUAIO has COMPLETELY ALTERED THE BOXING WORLD
before : Fighters doesnt know when to stop climbing in weight divisions because as high as they go the less effective theyve become.
Now: Fighters going down 1 division or even 2 or 3 lbs below the limit will be dehydrated againts a man going up 2 divisions and has MAJORITY of his fights fought at a weight class 8 divisions lighter :o :o
Re: Catch Weight - Title fight?
As with most recent Pacquiao fights its not about the titles.
Its about making a statement in climbing divisions and making a lot of money in doing so.
I'm sure that Shane won't mind putting his title on the line in return for the profits that could potentially be generated.
Re: Catch Weight - Title fight?
Screw this BS. If Pac wants the WW belt he sholuld fight at the WW standard. It is obvious he wants to drain Mosley. How about Pac dropping to 136 when he is 36 (in 6 years) years like vs ODLH ? What a joke and heady marketing

hi Donny, long time no see .... I agree, but Pac's fight criteria /stipulations are really a form of masking the opponents weakness. They're are coming off losses, slow a foot, come foward fighters with no lateral movement, old and battle, worn, no fights against 1 punch power fighters, (never fought the Soto's or Valeros) and now the latest weight drain your opponent. With the exception of JMM all of Pac's opponnets were carefully handpicked. (and the JMM fights were probably seen as no power threats) He has not fought a fighter with the opposite of the items listed above in who knows how long!! Basically a fighter of color and now that he has an opportunity he wants to weight drain them to nullify their strengths.... what a farce !

Even worse. NO Welterweight save for Manny and maybe Floyd would be anywhere near 147 when they actually step into the ring.
They simply aren't naturally that weight, they can cope with dehydrating to stand on some scales for 5 minutes then rehydrating... they can't be in that state for hours and fight.
That's why they got rid of same day weigh ins... fighters were exhausting themselves doing it and getting rid of the fluid that protects the brain... Dehydration/Fatigue = Brain Damage.

Nobody is denying that it would be within the Welterweight limit...
It's the fact that They don't want the fight to happen against a full welterweight but still want the full accolades that would go with it.
re your previous post: I keep asking you people this and you haven't managed to respond yet - If it's 'only a few pounds' and it isnt going to affect Mosely then why are they even asking?

i know they place the system there to protect the fighters, but then these fighters take advantage of it thru weight cuts. so, same day weigh-in would show mosley and others aren't fighting at their natural weight. why then would pac fight a middleweight wherein he's the natural welter? a catchweight then would be necessary to make it interesting and even the playing field, otherwise teampac would be giving away too much advantage to these bigger opponents. he could still possibly win but then that would also be at the expense of endangering his own health against fighters who should have been naturally in a heavier weight division. roach also has the right to protect his fighter.
and btw, same day weigh-in doesn't necessarily mean they'd be fighting at 147lb. they'd still have time to rehydrate although they would have a shorter time to do it.

I agree that Same Day weight-in's should be brought back.
Then I would gladly say that If a fighter is literally killing himself to make a ridiculous weight, then that's his problem.
Re: Catch Weight - Title fight?
It will be everybody's problem when fatilitys increase and the sport ends up getting banned.
Fighters won't stop doing it.
The playing field is level now as it is... the majority of 147 pounders fight at 160, 154 pounders at 170, 160 at 175 etc... All it's done effectivly is create a buffer that is letting these guys get down low like they are inevitably going to try and do no matter what, but with out as much risk. Fighters are always going to go to ridiculous lengths to make weight... no matter when the weigh in is... history has shown this.
You shouldn't have to change the rules just so that Manny Pacquio can move up as many weight classes as possible... if he wants to advance upwards and challenge other fighters he can - but there's going to have to be a point where they get too big for him... which in my opinion is Welterweight.

pacman is not a natural welterweight.
Drying up is part of the game now, 24 hour weighins changed that.
A natural Welterweight doesn't walk around at 147 pounds and a natural middle weight doesn't walk around at 160 pounds, they are just able to hit that for the weight in and not be a corpse afterwards.
That's the way things are for everybody all the way up to Cruiserweight and it's not going to change just so that Pacman can spread himself over an 8th division he's not big enough for.
