Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes

So what is the point of this fight?

Is it because Ricky cannot make 140 comfortably anymore, or that he is taking on a more than beatable opponent at 147 to see if he can cut it!

One thing that is for sure...he looks on the downslide and he really should have considered retirement much more than he obviously has!!

Lets face it...if he thinks he can move up and then take on the Likes of Mosley,Cotto or Margacheato after a Forbes win and do well in the division he is deluded!

A fight against the likes of Bradley or Witter would have made more sense to me especially if Junior takes the WBC belt he is fighting for...so that takes me back to the start of my post..is he weight drained fighting at 140 and he's holding on!

Hatton knows that a fight at 147 with the big boys is out of the question they are just to big for him.

That would be an understatement. He'd get hurt less standing in front of a train than fighting those guys. Margarita' would make him look like some pizza dough with tomato sauce thrown all over it;D

I know what will be said; but I'd still like to see him fight Juan Diaz or Katsidis. All he's going to do now by fighting{and possibly losing}to guys like Forbes is diminish his career even more, win or lose.

I agree totally..But I cant't see him having the stomach for a war with either Diaz or Kastidis either...

Its a bad situation for him I suppose as his two defeats have been against the Best quality figters around for some years and he probably feels he can still turn his career around...Its just time to Bow out gracefully for me and look back on a good career and think well done, instead of as you say taking fights that diminish his career!

He's picked someone who he thinks he'll be able to walk through their punches but Forbes did a number on Oscar when he tried to mix it in their fight and Oscar had to settle for outboxing him. Ricky won't be able to outbox him and he'll have to risk getting sparked all through the fight to land enough to get him the decision. I don't think even not having to make 140 will help him too much here. Going for Forbes tells me he Ricky doesn't believe he could beat Khan or anybody decent at 140, this definitely looks like a farewell fight. I'm going for Forbes in a surprise upset.

My take on Hatton - he isn't washed up, and he could fight on and beat most anybody for a couple more years.

He just got beat by a couple guys for two reasons. One of those reasons is that they have speed and grace. Another is that they have timing and balance. Against Manny he just fought stupid. It was a short fight and shouldn't have damaged him much more than many of his other longer battles.

In short - Hatton is a particular kind of fighter who can beat a lot of other fighters. But he's not and never has been a great fighter. He lost because he was outclassed or fought stupid - not because he is washed up.

Unless you want to argue that he was always washed up.

Yes, I know that he also eats and lives stupid between fights, and that it catches up with you. But I'm just saying I don't think these are the kinds of things that have happened to make him lose to Floyd and Manny. He could never have beaten Floyd. And that's why he lost.

I like Ricky. He'd be a fine bloke to lift a pint with. But I'd rather watch Bernard Hopkins or Floyd Mayweather in the ring.

You've got to be kidding. I don't care how shot Hatton is, there is no way he gets stopped by Steve Forbes. The guy has 7 stoppages in 34 fights, all of which came against inferior competition. Hatton might get outboxed, which I doubt, but he won't get stopped.

I'm going on how Oscar did with Forbes then how oscar did with Manny versus how Hatton did against him. I think Forbes has a good chance of stopping Hatton.

Forbes is a tough little opponent, but I'm not sure about Hatton's punch resistance anymore. If he was in his prime he would easily win, but we all saw what happened against Lazcano. He was stunned twice against him. Hatton isn't the same and against Pacquiao he was a shell of himself while Pacquiao skills continue to grow.

Also, forgot to add, why at 147 Hatton has never really looked great at 147. He has always seemed to diminsh down the stretch which is very un-Hatton like. Agaginst Mayweather and Collazo he started off strong, but at the end he has been winded and tired.

IMO I believe he can still beat many of the alphabet champions at 140. Let's say if he were to fight Kotelnik I would still favor Hatton.

Hatton likes 147 better. It's either on him since he doesn't struggle to make. The only reason he said he wasn't comfortable at 147 was cuz he needed an excuse for getting his ass kicked against Collazo and Mayweather. But in reality he loves the weight

The server which hosted the sites was highjacked and was taken down along with Carl Froch site and couple of others i thought it would have been back up by now that was like 4 or 5 weeks ago.

Hatton: Forbes sounds interesting. Is it a one off then? Or is Hatton just testing the waters for further fights? And most curiously why at 147? Is this an admission that 140 really was too much for him in the end and it was Mayweather and Collazo that pushed him back down?

Said all along hatton would go down 2 routes and if this is indeed true he`s taken the wrong one.


This is simply hattons way of bowing out with a win in his hometown against a very ordinary opponent who he`ll have no trouble seeing off as long as he trains properly.

He should of gone down the comeback route at 30 he is still capable of several world title fights and has the ability to end his career on top of the division with a record of 48,49-2 which would stamp his legacy as one of the all time british greats.

• november comeback against a holt/torres in new york or somewhere like that
• Then a bid to claim the WBO against bradley which again would be stateside which hatton should be able to win with the fight happening sometime in may 2010
• massive vegas showdown against a marquez/cotto/berto with the chance to end his career on top of the sport.
• If beaten one last final showdown in late 2010 against amir khan back in the uk
