Yikes. Yeah I would think it's getting about time to hang them up :-\
Looked rusty for all of 5 seconds, but once that guy landed that one hard shot he seemed to click for a moment.
I say if James stays active and doesnt take these 7 to 8 month breaks from the ring he'll be fine. At 40 he can't afford to fight once every 8 or so months. He needs to stay active every 2 months or so till something big comes along imo
He looked labored breathing but he's still a fairly fast heavy.
Still I don't like the fact that he took a couple right hands from a dude wearing gym shorts.
While I do 100% totally despise him...he was an amazing fighter & I'm sure still has the potential to be one still...but he needs to be disciplined & also move about 30lbs offa his ass cheeks & gut.
I'd love to see him get back to 175lbs & face Roy or Hopkins...or even take it back to cruiser where both of dem yunginz'd be able to make that match.
Mouthwatering!!!
Also...to Daxx & everyone on the board that knows me & I knows dem :
Just wanted to say howdy, I'm back, missed you fellars, & thanks for the kind words!!!
Trying to rep everybody that reped me while I was away.
That's "reped me while I was away"...not raped me!!!
Heh heh heh.
Agreed...but would'nt you love to see him drop 20/30lbs & make for some real matches?
I know I would.
I just wonder if he's SKEERED of that kinda fight?
I mean...he's only taken on the lower tear heavies...not the big guns or the one's that'd be a real threat to him...ie : the Klits...not for lack of trying.
Hey to the Majz, amat, Johnny-KA, & oumer.
Good to see you yunginz again.
To all you bruvuhz from other muvuhs out there that I don't know...pleased to meetcha's!
I think he's done the cruiser thing before and the only smaller guys he'd be willing to fight are Hopkins or Roy.
Other than that he'd like to back his way into a HW title shot and really how hard is to get a shot these days? Not like Haye, Arreola, or Kevin Johnson (assuming he gets a shot) have had to walk through murderer's row to get one.
I can't believe I'm talking seriously about Toney again. On the record I still think he's done :-\
Toney looked alright in that footagee. But then again who the fuck is Matt Greer? Greer looked like a tomato can and even he did seem to rock Toney a bit. Of course, Toney came back well there and was throwing a fair bit up until the stoppage. I don't think we can judge anything on this showing. Toney doesn't stop heavyweights, so I think this was clearly a reflection on the ability of Greer than anything else.
Toney needs to get in the ring again ASAP. There is no time to hang around nor risk him getting at the buffet table. He needs to go the Foreman route and stay very active until the opportunity comes along.
I also didn't like the fact that Toney was breathing so heavy in round two. His output was good, but it wasn't that strenuous a work out. He must stay busy as there are no more chances after this.
Toney did not look alright, he looked absolute shiit!!
He was fighting a bum but the only few punches the bum threw, Toney caught with his face, he cant get out the way of this level of opponent:rolleyes: and he was also hurt a few times in the short time it lasted:o He is done!!
He also didnt look anywhere near as good a shape as he did for Holyfield, which makes me think he used some gear for that fight.
Saying he was "hurt a few times" is way over doing it but he didn't look that good.
He was hurt!
In that video, not long after it starts, Toney is caught with a right hand (this in itself is bad news for him) and he stumbles backwards in to a corner, he stays there for quite a while before venturing out.
If that were either Klitschko, Toney would have been stopped whithin a few rounds easy, hes in his 40's and the only good performances hes had at heavy hes been acused and found guilty of taking steroids:rolleyes:
he was off balance but maybe slightly hurt too, it wasn't like he was nearly out of it or anything.
I think its easy to overrate how hurt he was there but nevertheless he might have been a bit stunned, I was just saying he wasn't "hurt a few times", the only time where you could say he was hurt is right after the video started.
Toney might have been caught but his response showed that he was in no real trouble. Greer couldn't land clean on Toney at all while Toney was doing his duck, turn and swivel thing on the ropes. I agree with Ross that it was not a good sign, but we cannot really say anything with conviction on a couple of rounds.
Toney needs to step it up a notch and do it again in a month.
Although hes lost alot of weight, he didnt fight like he was full of energy or fitter than usual, his stomach didnt have any hardness to it, I think hes lost the weight by "dieting" rather than running it off:p
Yes, the fact that this level of opposition is able to hit Toney clean is bad news, the fact it made Toney stumble back in to the ropes is worse, other than the weight loss, it didnt look as though hed done anything different in training, he was out of breath, the footage looked as though it could have been in the 8th or 9th round of a busy fight the way Toney was taking breathers and laying on the ropes b efore catching his breath and working:rolleyes:
