A fight at an agreed weigaht of 145 lbs. is not impossible, in fact Pacquiao fought his last fight at agreed weight of 145 lbs. Mayweather fought his at agreed weight of 144 lbs.
The difference being ? Let me answer that for you.. Pacquiao made the weight, Mayweather was 2 pounds over... Why can't you understand that? You simply ignore it and state Mayweather fought at agreed weight 144.....? No he did not, he weighted in at 146 and god only knows how much he weighted in the ring since he refused to be weighted fight night...
I already asked this question. If 145 is not acceptable to Team Floyd then do you think they will push and accept 146 since it's Floyd's last weigh-in weight?
Why not just have it at 147 if you are willing to go ahead and fight at 146? The Cotto fight should have been at 147 too. At least going by the recognised weight limits less questions will be raised after the event. I remember being very irritated that the Cotto fight was at 145. It wouldn't have affected the outcome, but that is besides the point. Just fight at WW and be done with it. If you win then you take all the glory and command all the respect.

Pacquiao's last weigh-in was at 144 lbs. and that the highest weigh-in weight he has done so far. Team Pacquiao is asking for a 145 lbs. weigh-in for the Floyd fight. It's 1 lb more than Pacquiao's highest weigh-in weight.
I think Team Floyd is considerable enough to agree at least at 146 lbs., his last weigh-in weight.

If Pac is more comfortable at 144 then let him do that, if Floyd is more comfortable at 147 then let him do that. We should have two athletes at their optimum weight and let the fans have the fight they want for once. No dilly dallying over weight. If Manny wants to be a WW then he should learn to handle the weight or else go back down to JWW.

Now, he's also said he wants a Mayweather fight at 145. This smells of BS because let's face it Mayweather doesn't impose his size on people & no way is he THAT much bigger than Pacquiao.
But, to top it all off, now Roach has said that if there was to be a Pac-JMM III, it could only be at 145lbs. Yep, apparently Manny who's not big enough to make the full welterweight limit, would simply be unable to burn off the weight to make light-welterweight.
It's all here

Apparently Roach 'likes that weight for Manny', so all weightclasses will be bastardized to suit his needs
You dont get it mate.
When Roach says 'Manny by KO in 1'. you think that's the real strategy?
same here. Roach talks a lot for leverages at the negotiation. Many hates him for talking but he needs to do it for his and pac's sakes.

For sure, it's not the governing bodies since it's not like someone is the mandatory challenger of some champion. Hope you have now an idea why weight class and governing bodies plays a little role in this particular rare special match up.
145 lbs. is not a ridiculous weight. It's only 1 lb. from each boxer's last weigh-in weight.
In answer to your question , I will state the obvious, the public shows a desire for a fight (the press lead the way)
The fight is made by the promoters and the fighters camps and the terms are agreed.
Governing bodies DO play a part unless you got a Silver Dollar and a piece of tape to make the "belts' that are avaialble.
The various athletics commissions have to sanction a fight , therefore if something goes wrong soemone should be responsible. But under your thinking maybe the public who demanded the fight should be held responsible if a fighter is injured or worse trying to make a weigh demded by someone not in charge.

Errmm , didn't I say that . I think all your hugging is not allowing your blood to flow to your brain and you keep going round in circles.
Re: Sorry for another Pacquiao thread, but this pissed me off
They are putting the bout at 145 against Floyd so that they would get some money. Everybody knows Floyd will come in overweight like he did against Marquez.
Roach knows Manny can fight at 147 limit, the thing is he will need to challenge guys to make that weight, and make some money out of it too. You see he told the everyone that it will be OK if Cotto will come in at 147, the show will go on (with 2million penalty of course), but if Cotto surpass 147, then the he call the bout off. That is the welterweight limit. If Cotto came in at 147 he will not be stripped off his belt, he will just be fined heavily, that's it.
If Roach gives in on 147, Floyd will come over 150. If thats 1million a pound over 147, then thats 3 million -- and it means nothing to Floyd if his "undefeated status" is on the line.

Pre fight poker: 50 /50 bets all in ;
I'll raise them a pound into catch
and see them on a walk in first.

I could agree with that since he beaten Cotto it could still depends on their PAC - Floyds team.
but Pacquiao or Mayweather is not really big welters like Cotto..145 would be fine..
I guess both Floyd and Pacquiao would not fight a Huge players in Welters like Paul WILL and Margarito or even Shane Mosley really at 147.
145 would be fair enough. Pacquiao could wiegh at 144 and Floyd for 145 still a advantage for Floyd coz he's bigger physically. but i doubt it if Floyd can go as if a contracted 145.

I know. lets call it a WW fight and you come in anywhere you like within the limit without telling someone else what to weigh on the night;D

Well it could really happens mate, a WW showdown.;)
Re: Sorry for another Pacquiao thread, but this pissed me off
if he wants Manny at 145 then make Manny weigh in at 145 and let Mayweather weigh 146. All just BSing imo.

That's totally wrong for it means JMM can come at 135 against Floyd who can come at 147 or Pacquiao coming in at 140 against Cotto who can come in at 147. I think you can clearly see that there has to be a compromise weight somewhere in the middle like 144 for Floyd-JMM and 145 for Pacquiao-Cotto.
I think 145 is just fine and fair for Floyd-Pacquiao fight.

I agree that there has to be a commission sanctioning the fight but this weight thing will be negotiated by both camps and the sanctioning commission or ABC org has very minimal influence on what fight weight both camps might agree with.

It's not wrong because it is adhering to the weight classes that we all recognise. In this case the WW limit. Of course, it would never be acceptable to have LW Marquez fighting a WW Mayweather. That wasn't what I was arguing anyway.
I think a cap at 147 is perfectly acceptable and if either party wants to come in lighter than that then fair enough. I don't see anything controversial in what I am saying here.

You would do.
remind us what the RANGE for the WW division is? Both fighters should be allowed to weigh-in within that range. That's why it's a WW division rather than one set weight that Freddie Roach decides will handicap their opponent.
