Re: Mundine thrown out of Green party!
Agree with both Andre and Jamiebhoy.
I reckon the best thing about Wednesday fight is that it has got EVERYBODY in Australia talking about boxing again. I mean, even my girlfriend's parents who are totally NOT into boxing were asking me about it. It made back page news on the papers,it is fantastic for boxing in Australia.
Australia is a proud sporting country, but with aussie rules, ruby league and union, soccer and cricket, boxing doesn't even get a mention. The night of the fight it didn't even get a mention in the mainstream commercial TV news bulletins, although they did cover the weigh in the day before and I guess there isn't that much to cover between weigh in and fight - but I thought they could have at least mentioned it...
Anyway, I think it's great for the sport even if people are now talking about fights (Hopkins etc) that are highly unrealistic.
Mind you, if you had told me a year ago that Danny Green's people would succeed in getting Roy Jones Jr to Sydney, and that Green would knock him out in the first round, my reaction would have been another old Australian colloquialism...
PIG'S ARSE.
Re: Mundine thrown out of Green party!
At first I thought you meant the political party but now it makes sense. :)

Hopkins and Roy Jones at this point are just such different animals, there's almost nothing to take from Green winning in that fashion as far as Hopkins should be concered, at least imo. Sure it was an upset and fairly shocking at that, but Roy Jones has been violently knocked out twice before, and hadn't fought a live body his own size since then. Green has shown in the past he comes unglued and doesn't have a plan B when someone gets into a rythym, he can be outboxed quite easily. Unless you really think he's about to steamroll Hopkins like that in the first, I see almost no reason to get excited about his chances whatsoever. Hopkins outclasses him 99 times out of 100 imo.
I agree, one of my criticisms of Green is he is or was a little wooden in his approach, almost predictable, Beyer out boxed him in the second fight with a masterful display of boxing and Green never had a plan B. From what i have seen of Green recently he has learned a lot from those defeats to Beyer and Mundine. I think Hopkins would find a way of beating him, it just might be a little more difficult than he thinks. Green is twice the fighter he was 3-4 years ago. We may never know and judging by some of the comments about Green on this thread, people are still afraid of the unknown!
What unknown? I seen over 15 of Danny Green fights. It's not hard to see what to expect. He's a stronger fighter with a big punch. Not more. The fact that
a shot Roy Jones is his biggest win say it all.
It's unacceptable for a fighter 2 lose to both Anthony Mundine and Markus Beyer and think he's a good fighter. Maybe a lose to one can be excused. But to lose to both is unacceptable.
You mean the same Roy Jones good enough to fight Joe Calzaghe just last year and the same Roy Jones Beranrd Hopkins wanted to fight next March? That shot Roy Jones? It appears to me that Danny Green would have been better off losing this fight to Jones?
Maybe Bernard Hopkins shouldn't have lost to Jermaine Taylor either...Twice!

Markus Beyer & Anthony Mundine are not fit to lace Taylor's gloves. Say what you like about Taylor, but his resume is one of the best in the sport. He's taken on the best in their primes & whilst he might not have always won, he's earned respect. Bernard Hopkins 2x, Winky Wright, Cory Spinks, William Joppy, Kelly Pavlik, Jeff Lacy, Kassim Ouma, Raul Marquez, Carl Froch & Arthur Abraham.
The best names on Beyer & Mundine's records combined are Mikkel Kessler, Sakio Bika & Sven Ottke. There's not a win among them & they were largely uncompetitive with those guys. Even in his defeats Taylor has always been competitive.
Just for the record, for the entirety of this thread. Hopkins is not ducking Green. Give Green a title shot at someone like Tavoris Cloud or Jurgen Braehmer. But he's not a proper world champ yet & he's not 'The Man'
Oh & Roy Jones should've retired after being put to sleep by Johnson. I lost a lot of respect for Calzaghe fighting him & I'd have lost the same if he'd fought Hopkins, which I said at the time I saw as sanctioned murder.
Credit to Green, but he didn't 'become a legend' by beating an old Roy Jones. Unless Trevor Berbick, Pat Lawlor, Stan Harrington & Uriah Grant are legends of the sport.

He sounds serious about the heavyweight thing. But it won't happen because Bernard likes to stack the chips in his favour.
And offering Adamek $500,000 is just plain bullshit - he wasn't being greedy, he didn't want the fight, pure and simple.
At his age, he has every right to be careful with which fighters he takes on.
Anyone can find "buts" in any fighters biggest wins.
Maybe you should look at the positive of a win before instantly discrediting him because he is Hopkins.

Once again, The Man is reference to Anthony Mundines nickname
I suppose Leon Spinks is a legend for beating Ali the first time around? I think people have their noses well out of joint seeing Roy Jones Jr KOd by someone they do not believe in. Fair enough, i just like to give credit where it is due sometimes. What puzzles me is people on here think it would still be ok for Hopkins to fight Jones Jr in March while hanging shit on Danny Green? Hopkins has not been that active these past 12 months. Just exactly who will he fight that will be of interest to anybody? Comparing Greens win over Jones jr to that of Berbick over Ali is absurd. Ali was shot after the Thriller In Manilla FFS, Jones jr just came off a good win against Jeff Lacy? This fight effectively ended in 63 seconds!!

Lacy has been garbage ever since his very serious shoulder injury.

I see this loss has really affected the mental capabilities of people on this forum, You must be must living on fucking Mars! He beat Lacy, it was a good win. Garbage or not, he won and Hopkins wanted Jones jr in March. Get your head out of your ass! Green has wrecked the dream re match. My point here is Green is getting more shit for winning than if he had of lost.
