Both are good fights and will present different challenges to Canelo. Isn't it funny that it is widely accepted that Molina beat Kirkland and Lara beat Williams, yet, it is Williams and Kirkland, not Lara or Molina, getting the Canelo fight.
It is even worse than that for Molina.
Molina beats Cintron; Cintron still gets fight against Canelo
Molina beats Kirkland; Kirkland is in the discussion for Canelo
Lara beating williams; Williams in discussion for Canelo
Molina or Lara are a much tougher test for Canelo. Molina is awkward. Lara is a skilled southpaw.
Canelo's team avoding both like the plague in favor of a brawler (Kirkland) or a guy who used to win solely on length, chin, and volume (PW).
if you are going to avoid an awkward guy like Molina or a southpaw boxer like Lara, then how in the hell are you going to face a master boxer like Mayweather????
How many top 10 (ring ranked or espn rankings) guys has Canelo beaten? Rhodes. That is it.
Canelo's opponents:
cotto's brother-much smaller guy having to come up in weight
Baldomir-old as hell
Ndou-old as hell and his best weight was 140
Hatton-not the biggest guy at 147 much less fighting at a limit of 152
Rhodes-ranked in top 10 by ring magazine, espn-but he wasn't exactly a spring chicken
Gomez-best weight isn't 154 for sure and only solid at his best weight
Cintron-lost badly to Molina; won against Smith but looked lackluster. And already past his prime
Mosley-old and hadn't won a fight since January 2009.
He beats 1 legit top 10 guy (who wasn't shot) but was an older fighter. Other than that he beat up very old guys, much smaller guys, or guys that were already shot all to hell.
How does that qualify him to face P4P level fighters????? It doesn't. NOt in the least.
I can't recall many guys trying to start facing the absolute elite of the entire sport when they won't even take on a top guy in his division who isn't ancient and is still in his prime!!!!!!!!

So what exactly is Alvarez suppose to say when asked if he wants to fight Mayweather? No? I don't deserve it? Come on now. He ain't gonna say that.
Think about it. He's 21 and doesn't have a problem trying to challenge himself against the sports best. Yet he's been criticized for that. Un fucking believable

Bang on. It must be the fact that he’s a red headed Mexican that gets him all the hype.
What does not get addressed these days is the way that they are being brought up. Coddled by a factor of ten compared to any other era. Soon they will come out in helmets like the pampered kids today in the playgrounds sandbox. Instead of helicopter parents its helicopter promoters. Way too many belts to be had and too many divisions = watered down. An example of this would be to compare Cotto’s upbringing to Alvarez. Cotto faced adversity earlier rather then later which imo prepares fighters for much bigger challenges.
Cotto’s 10th fight was against Juuko.
Alvarez’s 10th fight was against a guy making his pro debut.
Moving up a bit Cotto’s 18th fight was against Sosa.
Alvarez’s 18th fight was against a guy that was 4 and 14.
Cotto’s 20th fight was against Pinto. A guy that had his number in the amateurs and was 21 and 0.
Alvarez’s 20th fight was against that 4 and 14 guy again only by this time he was 5 and 17.
Re: Scoring Cotto-Mayweather a week later
I had Mayweather quite comfortably. Something like 9-3.
Re: Scoring Cotto-Mayweather a week later
I would've had it a draw if Cotto didn't wobble at 12th.

So Floyd had to win the final round to win the fight? All is forgiven Adalaide Byrd, there are way to many bad judges on here.

That's a bad analagy for a couple of reasons. The first is that Cotto had an amateur career..If I'm not mistaken Saul did it Chavez style, learning his craft as a pro. That's not the same and both fighters can't possibly take the same path to the top.
Also the age. Canelo is 21 and has 40 odd fights under his belt. He has a LOT of time to take those tests and is being brought along just fine..a reminder..He's 21!!! The fighters he's dispatched as a 21 year old is to be respected. The way people talk about him, you'd think he's in the tail end of his career.
Sorry but I don’t buy into the age thing all that much anymore than I did with Chavez Jr.
Benitez was 15 when he started fighting and fought close to 25 times in one calendar year before capturing one of two available titles at 140 against Cervantes. You can’t on the one hand claim to be the best fighter in the world at a certain weight class and then claim being only 21 as a reason not to fight anybody that’s a threat.

Re: Scoring Cotto-Mayweather a week later
8-4 is the closest I could bring myself to making it a more even fight. Whilst I admire the resolve of Cotto, in the close rounds the cleaner, better boxing was clearly done by Floyd. I certainly would not say he was coasting, but Cotto won 3 rounds by out-working Mayweather and only one (8th) by truly out-thinking him. Mayweather's ability and ring IQ shone through in the close rounds where he countered Cotto beautifully and controlled him with his exceptional defence in the manner of a Matador slowly taming a bull. Thus when Floyd wobbled Cotto late on, it showed how great a toll Mayweather's strategy had taken on his opponent; Floyd was not about to rush in for the kill and risk being gored by a wounded beast, but if this fight had been an old-fashioned 15 rounder I have no doubt the final 3 rounds would have seen Cotto fail to beat the 10 count, or else be cut short by his corner.

And look at Benitez now. A broken, shell of a man who can't remember any of his success. And he was an outstanding defensive fighter. Alvarez is being moved at the right pace
