I'm not trying to be overly hard on Roach but the fact of the matter is, he does not teach his fighters how to clinch or tie-up. He himself was a face first fighter. Having said that, when you have a fighter as fragile as Khan both chin wise and mentally, it ought to be an imperative in training.
Good points made here and at the risk of getting repetitive "clinching" should be a major part of Khans play book given all the factors in how he fights.Quote:

since he got with Pac IMO Roach has been all about overwhelming an opponent with blazing fast hand speed and power. It's a great style to watch, but as with any other style it has it's drawbacks. I think Bruce Lee had it correct, to fight without a certain style is best. Every style in boxing has it's counter and it's weaknesses, but if you open your mind and adapt to who is in front of you then you will be better off. Khan simply didn't fight smart and he paid the price. The trainers aren't the only ones that have to be smart, the fighters do too.Quote:

It's funny because I think a part of it is to do with attitude. Ironically, guys like Khan and Hatton who seem very outwardly humble, I ALWAYS detected hints of arrogance from these guys. Hatton saying "Floyd ain't knocking me out..when did he last knock someone out? I'm stronger and bigger than him etc" and Khan saying "We're gonna jump on him and I promise to knock him out" - Over rating themselves and not planning for the opposite scenario.
Where as Floyd is the opposite..Outwardly arrogant but once he gets inside that gym, I get the feeling he is humble about his skills. That's why he trains so hard..he needs to back up his outward arrogance.
Agreed. Khan seems to instantly lose the plot under any form of adversity. No way is all the blame on Roach however he has to see the fundamental weaknesses and act on them even if that means bringing someone in. He's obligated to no?Quote:
