Re: Khan is in the wrong gym
I'm not trying to be overly hard on Roach but the fact of the matter is, he does not teach his fighters how to clinch or tie-up. He himself was a face first fighter. Having said that, when you have a fighter as fragile as Khan both chin wise and mentally, it ought to be an imperative in training.

Give me a list of Roach fighters that know how to clinch or tie-up etc? Given Khans chin issues, you might want to make that an imperative.
I remember Freddy Roach giving Wlad shit for having fired him and he said something to the extent of "I tried to teach Wlad how to clinch/tie up and he didn't stay with me long enough to learn but I bet he wishes he would have now" it was after the Corrie Sanders fight.
Roach is a great trainer, but even great trainers don't always click with every fighter. Trainers have a lot to think about as well, and a short time in which to relay information to their fighter. I don't blame Roach for Khan's loss because Freddy brought Khan back from the Prescott defeat, but in order for Khan to improve I think he's going to need something to change.
Good points made here and at the risk of getting repetitive "clinching" should be a major part of Khans play book given all the factors in how he fights.

7000 I believe they said the attendance was. Either Sky Sports or HBO mentioned.
So not exactly a huge draw. He filled half an arena. Mandalay Bay holds about 14000, right?

since he got with Pac IMO Roach has been all about overwhelming an opponent with blazing fast hand speed and power. It's a great style to watch, but as with any other style it has it's drawbacks. I think Bruce Lee had it correct, to fight without a certain style is best. Every style in boxing has it's counter and it's weaknesses, but if you open your mind and adapt to who is in front of you then you will be better off. Khan simply didn't fight smart and he paid the price. The trainers aren't the only ones that have to be smart, the fighters do too.

Yeah, I definitely see your point here. I mean it's not like Roger ever tells Floyd anything special in the corner is it?
"Keep tappin that bitch...that muh fucka gon go later on anyway"
Floyd just has it in him to adapt. Very hard to teach that boxing brain.
It's funny because I think a part of it is to do with attitude. Ironically, guys like Khan and Hatton who seem very outwardly humble, I ALWAYS detected hints of arrogance from these guys. Hatton saying "Floyd ain't knocking me out..when did he last knock someone out? I'm stronger and bigger than him etc" and Khan saying "We're gonna jump on him and I promise to knock him out" - Over rating themselves and not planning for the opposite scenario.
Where as Floyd is the opposite..Outwardly arrogant but once he gets inside that gym, I get the feeling he is humble about his skills. That's why he trains so hard..he needs to back up his outward arrogance.

Agreed. Khan seems to instantly lose the plot under any form of adversity. No way is all the blame on Roach however he has to see the fundamental weaknesses and act on them even if that means bringing someone in. He's obligated to no?
We also have to keep in mind that Roach is stretched pretty thin time wise.

7000 people were in there but how many paid for their tickets and how many were freebies?
Re: Khan is in the wrong gym
