Re: Why not Bowe vs Tyson?
Blame EL Kabong for even going there with Briggs being able to cause Bowe problems. I think he said it more to illustrate how could the Klit brothers are than anything else. ;)
Re: Why not Bowe vs Tyson?
Brıggs was a bıg strong ox and very ıntımıdatıng and ıf he caught someone at the rıght dıstance (wıthın hıs punchıng range) he could put them to sleep---but as for hıs defense ıt was rather shıt--and hıs stamına was also always a factor---thıs guy was a crack head ın West Orange New Jersey just up the road from where I was lıvıng ın East Orange.....people ın da hood used to talk about hım/saw hım once ın a whıle---he wasnt a good dedıcated athlete---he often got hıgh on paınt thınnners was the word from about 1998 to 2001 around the Oranges there ın NJ, he was known as a "huffer"---and would often sleep lıke a bum ın Eagle Rock Park ın West Orange. SO yeah thıs kınd of punıshment on the body wıll not buıld up too good stamına over the years.
Re: Why not Bowe vs Tyson?
I think he said he had asthma too. Maybe he never, maybe it was just the crack and fumes tearing up his lungs.

Yeah I was kind of surprised to hear such praising for Briggs but I kept my mouth shut because I really have only seen Brigg's fights against Lennox, Foreman (total gift) and a few other bigger ones.
Its the hairdo ;D honestly, aside from the last second bomb on 'The White wolf', I don't think he's beaten a top ten heavyweight and about half his kos were guys with losing records. He didn't even warrant the draw with Botha from where I was sitting.
Briggs didn't think so either here's what he said about the Botha fight.
"The fight against Botha. I did everything the right way, just had a bad chain of events happen. I tore my left bicep before the fight. I had an ulcer the size of a dime in my stomach. I trained for the fight in Big Bear thinking the altitude would be good for me. Terrible. I couldn't run in the morning, it was too cold. It was just everything. That was heartbreaking. After the second round I was gasping for air. Botha broke my rib. Cauliflower ears. Stitches over both eyes. Hung in there for ten rounds. I was fortunate to get a draw. He really gave me a beating, physically. And mentally I was really down on myself, because the fight was so hard, grueling."
Re: Why not Bowe vs Tyson?
My point in bringing up Briggs is that though he wasn't a great fighter and he was terribly flawed he still had enough of a punch in him to give Riddick Bowe hell....it's not about how great I think Briggs was it's about how pedestrian I think Riddick Bowe was. Tell me how you see Bowe handling the power punchers of his era....he never fought a 1 of them!

Re: Why not Bowe vs Tyson?
Bowe would beat up a Briggs type opponent with relative ease dependant on where he was in his career.

I think also what you were trying to say is that Briggs had more potential and punching power than Riddick Bowe. So why don't people ask more about Briggs against Tyson or Morrison or others.
Bowe was more consistent, a smarter boxer and tougher in there. He didn't fight Lewis, Mercer, Morrison, Tyson, Foreman, Briggs etc.
All big punchers and potential dynamite match ups.

Riddick Bowe was actually going to fight Ray Mercer, but Ray Mercer got upset by Jesse Ferguson.
Re: Why not Bowe vs Tyson?
Briggs as a big puncher is seriously overrated. Who? He had minimal technique and could put himself in serious trouble vs a top flight inside- outside professional looking at that wide rinse and repeat delivery. He was a giant puffed up kid with jiffy pop hair and a big MSG promotional push but honestly unrefined raw power with bad stamina and iffy nerve.

Bowe was also due to fight Lewis but Lennox got beat too.
