Yes, why doesnt the best, highest paid athlete on earth disadvantage himself against an overrated light heavyweight come fightime!
Canelo will weigh TWO stone (25-30lbs) more than floyd come fight time!
If coming down in weight is so bad why doesnt canelo go up in weight and fight andre ward which would be another mega showdown.
Floyd ducks no one and since he destroyed guerrero after a year off and a stint in prison the hate seems to have intensified against him.
Maybe cuz Andre Ward hasn't been cleared by doctors to even train let alone fight. And only a fool would think Alvarez-Ward would make as much as Alvarez-Mayweather

Some people hate Floyd so much and want him to lose so bad that almost anything is viewed as fair play.
You seriously think Alvarez should come down to 147? A weight he hasn't fought in, in over 3 years and a weight his body won't even let him make?
No I don't VD and I don't expect Floyd to go to 154 for this fight whether he has a trinket or not. What they should do is just put the straps aside and meet at 150. That way they both give a little. This could also be a lot of posturing by Floyd as the talks for Alvarez/Cotto started before this announcement.

Buddy WELCOME TO BOXING. If a boxer can meet weight the day before than everyone should stfu .. every boxer has a right to put on more pounds after the official weigh in. It's been this way since the sports inception. I don't get why people cry about a boxer packing on weight after the weigh in. Floyd does gains weight too so he should fight at 154 easy right thats around his walking weight? .... Floyd won the title at 154 vs Cotto and now he wants Canelo to come down to 147. Like Violent said.. this is an excuse to not fight him.

Mayweather doesn't wanna a catch weight fight either. Alvarez-Cotto talks have started cuz Alvarez needs to fight. The worse thing he can do is just sit around waiting on Floyd. Based on what Mayweather has been saying it doesn't look like he's gonna fight Alvarez next. So moving to option B is the smart thing for Alvarez to do. If Mayweather were to show he was interested in fighting Alvarez next I guarantee you the talks with Cotto end.

I don't know what Mayweather wants. He's not a catch weight kind of guy and he already said he wants his first few fights at least under the new contract to be at 147. That is up to him. When I said do it at 150 w/o the gold that's what I would suggest for the impasse and not Floyds take. Cotto was at the Trout fight and the table was set. He [Alvarez] wanted Floyd to agree to fight him after Guerrero or he would not appear on the same card. Floyd has never signed to fight someone before his present fight was completed.Alvarez is in no position to demand Floyd go up whether its 154 or 151 hence the Mexican standoff that to be honest I'm not looking forward to. Its already starting to resemble the Manny/Floyd circus. If they fight great and if they don't oh well.
Re: Floyd wants to bring Canelo down to 147
Moving UP made history and was his cherry on top... Moving down to run tarver down to the wire was not.
Re: Floyd wants to bring Canelo down to 147
Floyd whoops Canelo's ass at 154 as well. Canelo is basically super middleweight...he can't stay at 154 much longer...hence his stamina issues. That being said...why give a fighter who is going to outweigh you 20-30 pounds come fight night any advantage?! Because it's good for his his legacy?! BS.

Of course floyd/canelo makes the most money but there are other options for him if he cant make the weight.
Take your pick and fight someone you probably dont outweigh.
Golovkin
Martinez
Geale
Quillin
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Pirog Soliman Sturm Macklin, and Murray
VD, you expect any boxer to fight someone at a 30lbs disadvantage?
Come on.
None of them make the money a Mayweather fight would make. Are you seriously trying to tell me Alvarez should try and make 147 when he hasn't done it in over 3 years and last time he tried he missed by 4 pounds?

Still made history and added to roys legacy. Came from his mouth not mine. We all know what happened to roy after that but according to some people on here ruiz wasnt a proper heavyweight anyway.
Always an excuse.
Do you even know what you're talking about? Do you have any idea how bad you're contradiction yourself? You say Alvarez should move up in weight. Cuz that's what champions do and will help his legacy. You use Roy Jones moving up in weight to fight Ruiz as an example. At the same time you're complaining that Mayweather shouldn't be expected to fight someone with a 30 pound advantage. Ruiz had a 33 pound advantage when he fought Jones. Are you saying Mayweather is not good enough to do what Jones was able to do?

Floyd has publicly stated that he wants to stay at 147 and lets get serious here. Alvarez was 171 pounds at fight time against Trout and that's with 24 hours of rehydration. A few more hours and he would probably have weighed over 180. Floyd probably weighs 150 at fight time Perhaps he should fight Ward next.
Robinson weighed 147 for his first fight with Lamotta but Ray was a big welter and transferred to 160 seamlessly.
Leonard took the 154 title prior to his 3 year retirement and fight with Hagler and he to was a bigger welter. Speaking of Hagler he probably never weighed as much as Alvarez at fight time.
Weight manipulation today has grown leaps and bounds compared even to the eighties.
Lastly Floyd is the top dog, the biggest draw and the greatest fighter on the planet. Why should he cater to the demands of the man expected to take over his rein? Legacy? We all know that Floyds view of legacy is quite different then most. Nobody fights 3 times in 5 years if their concern was legacy driven.
People need to take his age into consideration also and the fact that Floyds a natural welter.
Having said that, leave the titles at home at fight at 150.
Good post, and the bolded part is the most telling statistic of all. Yeah, I understand Canelo's unwillingness to come down to 147.... but at the same time, Floyd at 154 is not fighting at his best weight, but rather playing into Canelo's wheelhouse.
What gets me, in all seriousness, is reading how Floyd needs Canelo more than Canelo needs Floyd. Really?? I mean, Canelo is a rising star and all that, but.... seriously? Floyd is the consensus p4p right now. His legacy is set. Why should he cave to Canelo's demands at this juncture?

Floyds legacy will be looked at as a fighter who avoided the best in their peaks like manny and now Canelo?
what an idiotic comment Canelo is like 22 years old and recently fought a game and undefeated Trout.
Sorry I dont understand your comment? I must be too idiotic but whats your point? Why does Canelo being 22 and recently fought a game opponent go against what I said?

Im not saying he should cave. Im just saying it looks like he is ducking him, like it looked like he was ducking Pacquiao. I dont think Canelo is in Floyds class and think Floyd beats him at either weight but if he is avoiding everyone that all the fans want to see it will affect his legacy. Looks like he is gonna fight Khan next year. He had the chance to fight Canelo to fight Khan. I actually think Khan has a better chance of beating him then Canelo but most people will see this as him taking an easier fight.
