Re: Lomanchenko V Salido - WBO Featherweight title - Alamodome - Texas - 1/3/2014
This is such an odd fight. Loma doesn't deserve a title shot in his second pro fight and at the same time, why would his people let him take a fight against Salido in his second pro fight. Where does he go from there? Defend his title? Move on to bigger things like the winner of Donaire's next fight? The whole thing is a bit crazy, isn't it?

Theres plenty to go on from beating Salido. To argue he doesnt deserve a shot you can argue that about 100s of people who get shots a year. At the end of the day he wasnt mandatory. Salido got an offer and accepted it. Personally I dont think any fighter should get a title shot coming off a loss unless it was a robbery but this is not the case. All comes down to money

I can give you a basic time. On the East Coast of the US the fight is listed as starting at 9:45p and ends at midnight. I hope that helps somewhat

What is it with fighters not making weight, totally unprofessional Salido this seems to be
the norm of late,! hope Lomanchenko gives a boxing lesson.
I am feed up of this trend, why bother having weight divisions this year is starting off, just
like last year finished, to many so called World Champions not making weight.:nono:

That does not me as a good thing, more an early career ending thing. Also he should be sparring with 118lbers for speed and distance work.
As for the fight, Lomanchenko does seem exceptional. That this is a 'world title' fight is probably down more to the ridiculous amount of alphabet organizations, than some sensational achievement.
Do not get me wrong, if Lomanchenko wins he deserves a ton of kudos.
But I remember when it was rumoured De La Hoya was to debut against Hernandez. De La Hoya's management quashed the rumour, rightly pointing out that if a fighter fights 50/50 fights from day one, they will probably have a 50/50 record and potentially have their confidence shattered. And it did not take too long for Oscar to start fighting world class opposition, including a destructive victory over Hernandez.
Rademacher is the only evidence we have of an amateur fighting the best from day one, and Pete never really recovered from losing to THE champ and a leading contender in his first two bouts. I hope Lomanchenko's management have got the best interests of the fighter as their priority...

That last part doubled. Hope he has someone off the side not afraid to speak truth. Being professional isn't just about no head gear and gloves etc. Its a money pit full of shank carrying shady stiff suits. There is literally no room for a step down, a learning curve or adjustment. Ya can't fight a 'world title' while basically being labeled a sure star already and take lesser opposition. If things go sour we have all seen promoters literally push past fallen fighters and cut bait without a second thought. Only reason Arum is pimping this is for that dreamy trinket that the previous two holders didn't care enough to train to even keep.

Diaz getting some nice work in. He's looking pretty good in there.

This is one of my top five most want to see fights just for the fact it's his second pro fight and he's fighting for a title. Lomachenko becomes a star tonight.
