GGG is not a small middleweight. That talk needs to stop. He is a true bona fide middleweight. He isn't a natural super middleweight either for that matter though.
Froch or Ward beat GGG at 168. It might be closer if they met at a catch weight, but I still favor Froch and Ward.
In my opinion, THE fight for GGG is Froch. Froch is a future HOF caliber fighter and he has a following to win over. It's an opportunity for GGG to test the waters at 168 against the second best fighter in the division. If he wins in fun fashion, he'll have grown his brand in the UK. It's a more winnable fight than Ward and so the risk is worth it. If he loses or has difficulty, he chalks it up to size and moves back down. There's no shame in losing to Froch either at a weight class above his best.
I don't understand why he hasn't called Froch out more.
There's confidence, then there's stupidity....super middle is not the move for GGG at this point. Canelo and Cotto first.
@Ron Swanson, yes Floyd is a smallish Welter but if you want a laugh, read back on this forum a decade ago and you will see that good proportion of posters here though that Ricky Hatton was naturally bigger than Floyd - just because he was bigger than him out of the ring (harharhar).
Also, Pacquiao has an abnormal bone structure that allows him to carry more muscle, more effectively than most other guys his size.
Also Also. When Golovkin fought Rubio, he was 165 one whole month before he was due to fight.
Those are the facts.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that GGG came in to the ring smaller than Murray. Which means he's smaller than Murray. Which means he would be a small super middleweight. A slowish smallish super middleweight.
Nothing like Pacquiao or Mayweather at all Ron, as their success at higher weights was part built on speed and athleticism.
I love watching GGG fight but I just think that 160 is his home. Like I said though. It's just a hunch.
Certainly can't say GGG has fought the best and I look forward to seeing him do so but regardless he is a pleasure to watch in the ring. I bring big drama show, classic. Got give him credit for picking up English, he's come a long way, it looks like he's picking up some Spanish as well. I speak one language other than English and it is no easy task to learn a new language. It seems GGG is a bright, happy guy. I wish him great success.
