The only way to avoid the drinking problem you mention here is to get together with a bunch of proper drinkers for the holidays. That way you avoid all the family too. I'm having Christmas dinner with my eighties parents tomorrow and the other members of the family I can stand and then I'm off on a holiday drinking safari and will meet up with a selection of professional year-round stoners and boozers.
