Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Why is anybody giving khan credit for taking this fight? His stock is at an all time low and this is easily the biggest money fight that can be made. Khan fears the other Welters and knows that fighting someone like Garcia or Thurman won't get him anywhere near the payday and he will probably still lose.
If he is going to lose anyways, at least he can make the excuse that he was the smaller man against Canelo. And Canelo just shows that he's a slightly better version of Chavez jr by fighting people half his size almost every fight.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
It makes Khan look good and Alvarez look terrible. And it's a big payday for Khan. But he's going to get his head taken off. He got caught plenty by Algieri, he's going to get caught by Alvarez. And the weight gain isn't going to help him either. He just moved up to welter, he's going to look blown up and slow. I still can't believe this one.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
How can anyone say this fight is not a farce? And of course Khan deserves credit for taking it and hooray for him getting a huge payday but what does that have to do with the mockery that this fight represents? Its incredible to me that this is somehow being legitimized because Khan has a set and will make a ton of cash. You know Floyd vs Kovalev would also make a ton of cash. This lineal Ring middleweight champion has yet to fight 1 middleweight. That’s accepted because people will pay for it?????

It is a fairly bonkers fight and does reflect poorly on Canelo. DLH is trying to make comparisons with him and Pac, but DLH fails to acknowledge that he was old, shot and had to boil down to a mad weight. This is very different. If Khan pulls this off he is a genius, but the consensus seems to be that he is a bit daft. Very odd fight to be making when Khan can be fighting the likes of Garcia and probably win comfortably.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Bullsh*t move by Canelo, but par for the course. Even I didn't think Canelo would stoop this low. No disrespect to Khan, who's showing an industrial-sized pair of balls..... but c'mon. This breaks new ground for Canelo and Team Golden Boy. They're not even trying to disguise this under the semblance of a decent and fair confrontation.
The gravy train continues. A bloated record built on mostly has-beens and woefully undersized fighters. What a horrific farce! I've said it before and I'll say it again...... Canelo and JCC Jr. have a lot more in common than just their nationality.
Pathetic.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Khan is forgetting one pretty big fact. He can't take a fucking punch. Khan will be pushing up daisies before the 3rd round. The fight is a mismatch that shouldn't be happening. But I'm cool with it cuz fuck Khan.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
I guess this is what people were bitching about in the other thread it is kinda of let down fight and GGG pretty much getting fucked. Canelo has wins over Cott,Trout and Lara and now he going to face Kahn kinda step backwards but if he faces GGG next i can live with it if not drop the title.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Danny Garcia was smaller than Khan and won by KO , how does anybody think he has a chance against the much bigger Canelo who is equally as durable as Garcia ?
This looks like a mismatch to me but I don't have a problem seeing Khan koed brutally.

Why bring JCC Jr. up? That makes no sense and literally all they have in common is their nationality.
Canelo's resume is fine, and he's 25 years old. Mayweather, Lara, Trout, Cotto and Kirkland is really elite competition and JCC has nothing close to that. You're discrediting any point you are attempting to make with that comparison.
Anyways, this fight kind of sucks. I would not have a problem with this if Canelo wasn't on the 2 fight a year schedule but it seems like that's the case. If this fight was occurring in late March or early April, I would have no problem. But it's not, it's in May on the premier day of the boxing calendar. Hopefully the September fight will more than make up for it.
This wouldn't be a big deal if he wasn't the Middleweight champion. He should be a Super Welter or a Middleweight but he shouldn't really be something in between but that is the reality of our current landscape and it did not start with Canelo Alvarez. It started with Mayweather (I think) and Canelo was once put at a disadvantage by this by having to go to 152. If this fight (Khan) is going to be made, I'm actually happy for this catchweight because if Canelo could come in at 160 then this would have a lot less excitement.
Fight isn't going to play out very well for Khan though. He still fights with way too much nervous energy and Canelo doesn't waste too much movement and he should be able to slice right through him. Can't see Khan moving Canelo backwards nor can I see him being able to keep the fight in the center of the ring and connect enough to win enough rounds to win this. I think Canelo will be installed at +550 or so and if it's lower I'll actually bet a favorite which I never do.
Like I said though, his past 5 opponents (excluding Angulo I guess) have been as solid as anyone in boxing's right? He would have an easier time getting a free pass if he didn't only fight twice a year.

The date though factors into this and while Canelo has had his warm up, and could fight GGG on the same date, and still make huge money, Golovkin looks to now be fighting Wade in April and Brook is busy in March.
It has all the hallmarks of a possibly great and definitely entertaining fight, but it's also neither a mandatory gimme or any kind of preparation for Canelo to face the REAL middleweight champ, or Khan to face his own nemesis back home. In that sense it's bollocks.
Everyone will watch though.
what if they had have both lost, would it be that interesting then?
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Who cares who is the real champ in what division
is this not just an interesting fight?
I cant think of another fight that is already made for this year that I am looking forward to more

That's all fair comment, but if it's such an interesting fight, then don't make it for the title.
The reality is, that if there wasn't a title at stake , a.) it wouldn't generate as much interest, and b.) it would have a touch of the "Circus act" look about it.
at the end of the day, a World Title fight should NEVER have a catchweight or weight limit other than the official division weight limit.

An old past his prime Mayweather embarrassed him Lara also beat him in my opinion and a lot of people also thought he got beat. Trout lost a very close fight and some feel he won and I really don't rate trout that much at all. An old way past his prime cotto lost a close fight again but got completely done over on the score cards that fight was a lot closer. So that just leaves Kirkland who he beat well and let's be honest kirklands shit so his resume is very suspect to say the least. Khan also only gets kod when he decides to stand and trade somthing he's not going to do against Canelo so should he box clever it should be a 9-3 10-2 type of fight for Khan cause Canelo is shite against people who can box with speed

all very true, but not the worst situation for a world title fight there's ever been
Charles Martin is World Heavyweight champ, alright his fight wasn't a catch weight and both fighters had fought at HW before but common, legitimate?
there's probably been 50 less legitimate world title fights per year for the last 10 years
