Listened to an Abel Sanchez interview this morning, he explained perfectly why the Jacobs rematch isn't happening - Money.
However good a fight Jacobs gave Golovkin he lost and it did shit numbers. He said Jacobs needs to make a name for himself now, fight Lemiuex, fight another big name, make the money men demand the rematch as the people that fund fights are not currently interested.
You can't argue with that.
Fans don't like it - the divvies will call it a "duck" - but it's the truth. A plain simple fact in boxing is - the bigger the risk the bigger the reward, if that's not the case then the fight is not worth considering.

That's how I feel Oscar and Canelo have been approaching GGG up until this point.
Except it isn't (IMO). C'mon, there's no way you can categorize how Team Canelo has been approaching GGG as... "Money."
The money for GGG-Canelo was going to be there from Day One. But for some reason (which we all know), Oscar came up with the cute term... "Marinate."
We also all know that Canelo did his best to lure GGG toward 154, but GGG wouldn't budge. Why should he? Team Canelo talked shitloads about Canelo not being ready for 160.
Yet in that relatively short span of time you mention, Canelo was miraculously somehow and all of a sudden ready to fight Junior at 164.5 (damn those 0.5 divisions).
Finally, after having fought at that weight, and the world seeing that Canelo can fight at MW and above, the veil has been lifted and Team Canelo has no choice but to cash in their chips now. Otherwise, they risk ridicule from their ultra-loyal fan base. (I have to specify from whom because he already gets ridiculed by some of us hardcore boxing fans).

The money may have always been there but it was Canelo bringing it in. GGG can't make money as we've seen.
So why not take a few extra paydays along the way? It's not like the other titlests were rushing to outdo him. Barr Lemieux.
Both Jacobs and now Saunders have taken longer to face GGG than Canelo. Both are career middleweights. Canelo has moved up in weight and is fighting the best guy in the division quicker than some other belt holders have dared to.

One of the saddest posts I have ever read. Jacobs won by many peoples opinions. Not the majority, but many. He deserves a rematch. He's out there calling for a rematch. You can't just point to the numbers because the numbers were effected by the fact most thought it was a gimme fight. Proven by the 8/1 odds.

It would do very similar numbers. Maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. Either way it wouldn't be a viable fight to make. HBO aren't buying as many fights as they used to and they're just not going to come up with the scratch again for a rematch. The numbers don't add up to make it a doable proposition. So that's that.
If HBO offered Golovkin a twenty million dollar guarantee tomorrow to rematch Jacobs in his next fight Golovkin would snap their hand off. But instead they're offering him the chance to make that kind of money, more than he's so far earned in his entire career, fighting Alvarez, so that's what he's doing. Whichever fighter offers him the most money for his next fight after Alvarez is the fight he'll take. It's all about the benjamins baby.

The biggest contention for me is that "along the way", he wasn't fighting other 160 guys at 160. He fought a 147 pounder, a 154 pounder , while holding on to the 160 lb strap. If he wanted to drop the the strap immediately and wander aimlessly through the divisions, draining big guys and bloating small guys while looking for money fights, I might look at it as a side show but really what can you do. Those guys accepted those fights. Even per the rules, you could give Canelo a little bit of breathing room for defending the WBC against khan (at 160 as long as he paid GGG the step aside fee and Khan was ranked -- or at 155 for no title as long as he was back at 160 to defend against his mandatory (GGG) in the next fight. At least Cotto, agreed to pay GGG the step aside fee to fight Canelo instead (before refusing to pay the sanctioning fee and refusing to honor his word)
If Canelo kept the belt and kept stalling GGG while he fought a saunders, jacobs, Lemieux, stevens, monroe, lee or someone who ranked, he'd be getting more slack, I think. If you take the title and defend it against junior middle weights and welters and then when you're forced to fulfill your obligations at the weight, you throw a tantrum ("artificial deadlines") and lay the strap down... it looks bad. But ok, you drop the strap and walked away and fight whoever you want for bigger money some people might still watch.... but he kept coming back saying... But im not chicken!!!... and then you insult the consensus but uncrowned unified champ (WBO not withstanding) a low ball flat fee so he'll deliberately price himself out in a desperate attempt to gain back street credit. You can't have it both ways.
Why not just fight and beat saunders and see how bad a deal GGG was willing to make to complete his collection. Because somehow if G needs S and S needs G.. and C needs both... then the answer is chavez. If Canelo is all about the money angle, that's cool but it reminds of when I was kid and used to watch the wwe ..when it was still the wwf... they had this guy, who didn't win the championships.. and just made his own "million dollar belt"... that people could fight him for but would have his toadie cheat those people so they could never win his belt... Finally one day guess someone beat him and the whole gimmick was over cuz the belt didn't mean squat without the guy and the guy didn't mean squat without the gimmick. Achievement without integrity = a Biillionaire president that no one listens to.

It's one thing if you legitimize your new ground, defend it, either on the way or once you arrive. Canelo did neither and talked out of both sides of his mouth while retreating back to his 154 confines. I cannot seriously fault a Saunders or Jacobs for not having the playing field and luxuries afforded to Canelo and Jacobs most certainly met the challenge before Canelo and had the best fight of his career. Until that bell rings Canelo and company remain a step behind in middleweight, fuul middleweight, legitimacy.

I'm not talking about instead of the Alvarez fight. After the Alvarez fight he should be looking at Jacobs. Of course if there's some PPV out there that is what to make. But who is a PPV? HBO has said they have interest in Jacobs NOW, his standing has gone up.

Jacobs most certainly met the challenge before Canelo and had the best fight of his career.
Jacobs may have fought GGG before Canelo but it took him 2 & a half years to do it. Alvarez is doing it within 2. Saunders is still on the sidelines. Canelo may have talked a lot of sh-t but what do you expect? Do you want him to say "I want a few easy paydays before facing GGG" he should have said "GGG only wants to fight me for the money I bring, I'm not ready yet but when I feel it's time I'll fight him". The fight is happening now only because Canelo wants it to. He could have quite easily chose to fight other guys for the next year or 2, making good money and no matter what people say about his reputation he still would have been followed and GGG still would be hanging around begging for the fight.
